Alabama has the simplest design and has one of two square flags (Rhode Island is the other).

The winning design in a state flag design contest was won by a 13 year-old.
3. Which is the only flag with a red star?

Answer: California

During the 1980s, California's flag was accused of promoting communism due to the red star and grizzly bear. Nice idea, but the flag was designed decades before Marx invented communism and 70 years before the USSR was created.

Answer: Florida

Iowa became a state in 1846 but did not adopt a state flag until 1921.
