Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We are starting with a four letter word that refers to a game similar to "SORRY". The word is "LUDO". Now, change a letter in that word and you will have the deck on a cruise ship where you will find the pool.

Answer: lido

Lido is an Italian word that means beach. It can also refer to a facility where a pool and supporting facilities are available on land or on a ship. If you want to swim during your cruise, the Lido Deck is a good place to be.
2. Now take your previous answer and change one letter to find an abbreviated form of the car a newly married couple may take to leave their wedding.

Answer: limo

I remember hearing a description about a limousine that said it was used either by a wealthy jerk or fifty kids going to the prom. Sometimes it might also be used to transport the bride and groom from the site of the wedding ceremony to the site of the wedding reception (assuming they are in two different locations).
3. Now, take your previous answer and change one letter to find a green citrus fruit.

Answer: lime

While a lemon (usually yellow in color) is a citrus fruit, a lime is both a citrus fruit and more commonly green when ripe. Lemon-lime is a flavor combination that is sometimes used for soft drinks. Key Lime Pie is also a tasty (if tart) dessert.
4. Now change one letter of the previous word to get something that a proverb says "flies".

Answer: time

"Tempus fugit" translates as "time flies". Some will suggest that one should not waste time, but I would mention that you can decide whether something "wastes" time or not. I hope that you use your time well for you.
5. Now change a letter and your new word refers to a scholarly book--often large and heavy.

Answer: tome

A tome is a large book. As I picture it, the book is probably old (hundreds of years or more) and has a wise scholar bending over it and seeking some forgotten lore. The scholar may be holding a candle to illuminate the pages. In "Dungeons and Dragons", the game may occasionally refer to a book (often a book of spells) as a tome.
6. Now change one letter and the new word is the name of the city of the Caesars.

Answer: rome

The city of Rome has existed for thousands of years and was the home of many famous families including the Caesars. Augustus Caesar was the first emperor of Rome. Several European languages have a word meaning "emperor" that is a cognate of "Caesar".
7. Now change a letter and you have a word that means a group of strands that have been braided to form something stronger.

Answer: rope

A finished rope bears some resemblance to a hair braid with the various strands of which it is made plaited together. The strands support and back up each other and are stronger together than they are individually. A hangman would use a rope to hang a condemned person.
8. Now change a letter and make a word that be used for fruit that is ready to eat.

Answer: ripe

Fruit that is ready to eat can be described as "ripe for the picking". If that fruit is unripe, it may still be green (literally and figuratively) and not ready to eat. If the fruit is overripe, it may be turning unappealing colors and not safe to eat.
9. Now take the previous answer and change one letter to make a word that refers to an upward movement.

Answer: rise

In the morning you may be told to "rise and shine". A good response would be to get out of bed and be ready to face the day. Rise itself means to move to a higher level. We say "the sun rises" when it looks like the sun is higher in the sky than before when really it is the earth rotating to face the sun.
10. For your final action, take the previous word and change one letter to end up with a game where you try to conquer the world.

Answer: risk

The game of "Risk" was invented in 1957 and is currently published by Hasbro. In the game you use dice to move small pieces representing armies from one territory to another in your attempt to "conquer" the world. If your roll is bad, you may lose armies or territories. I guess it's true that where there's no risk, there's no reward.
