Maura Lynn Tierney was born on February 3, 1965, and started acting in the late 1980s. She joined the cast of "ER" in 1999, playing Abby Lockhart, who went from obstetrics nurse to medical student to doctor before the series ended ten years later. In that final season she and Luka Kovac (Goran Visnjic) moved to Boston to take up new positions, taking their young son Joe with them.

Kellie was born on October 16, 1975, in Riverside, near San Bernardino, California. She appeared in a number of TV shows and films as a child and teen, including voicing Daphne in "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" (1988-91). In the 2010s she appeared as the title character in a series of films called "Hailey Dean Mysteries".

Her character in "ER", Lucy Knight, was a feisty medical student who didn't mind sticking up for herself and her patients. Unfortunately, she was in the wrong place when a patient suffered a psychotic break, stabbing her and Dr. John Carter, and leaving them for dead. Carter survived, but Lucy did not.

Anthony was actually born in Santa Barbara, California, on July 19, 1962, while Dr Mark Greene, his character, died whilst in Hawaii, where he had taken his daughter Rachel, and was later joined by his second wife, Dr Elizabeth Corday and their daughter Ella. Edwards, as Greene, was an original cast member of "ER", appearing in over 180 episodes in the first eight seasons (with a couple of later appearances in flashback). Despite his own personal problems with relationships and his health, Greene was a steady character who "set the tone" for the emergency room staff.

Edwards' movie career included playing the role of Goose in "Top Gun" (1986) and Gilbert in two "Revenge of the Nerds" movies (1984 and 1987).

Paul David McCrane was born on January 19, 1961, and directs and sings as well as acts. In "ER" he played the odious Dr Robert "Rocket" Romano, who seldom missed an opportunity to be crass or disrespectful. His only saving grace was being very good at his job.

He was less good at ducking helicopters, having lost an arm to the tail rotor of one on the hospital roof, and later being crushed to death by another that crashed on takeoff from the same roof! McCrane was a regular on "ER" from season 4 until season 10, with one later appearance in a flashback of sorts.

Answer: George Clooney

George Timothy Clooney was born on May 6, 1961, and grew up in Kentucky and Ohio. His aunt, actress and singer Rosemary Clooney, made a couple of guest appearances in the early seasons of "ER". George's character, pediatrician Dr Doug Ross, was an original on the series, appearing for the first six seasons, with one later appearance near the end of the series, alongside nurse Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) who had followed him to Seattle.

Clooney's movie career took off in the late 1990s, and he got into writing, producing, and directing as well as acting and winning awards and nominations in all those categories.

Goran was born on September 9, 1972, and studied at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. He played the role of Hamlet on stage at an early age. He joined the cast of "ER" in season 6, playing the role of Dr. Luka Kovac until the final season. Luka became romantically involved with several female members of the hospital staff over the years, but eventually moved to Boston with Abby and their son, Joe.

Answer: Gloria Reuben

Gloria was born on June 9, 1964 and is a singer and author as well as an actress. Her character, Jeanie Boulet, first appeared midway through the first season of "ER". She was a physician assistant whose promiscuous husband passed on HIV to her, complicating all aspects of her life. Jeanie left the hospital staff during season 6, to care for her adopted son. Reuben returned as Jeanie for a guest appearance in the penultimate season.

In 2025 Gloria Reuben joined the cast of the "Blue Bloods" spin off "Boston Blue", playing a district attorney who is also the matriarch of the main family portrayed in the series.

Laura Innes was born on August 16th, 1956 and studied theatre at university. She made her film debut in 1978, and made appearances in a number of movies and television programmes before joining the cast of "ER" in its second season. Her character, Dr Kerry Weaver, was portrayed as having a congenital condition that required her to use a cane or crutch to get around.

Weaver isn't the easiest character to like, but she lasted until season 13, with a brief reappearance near the end of the series. Innes went on to appear in several episodes of "How to Get Away with Murder" (2018) and has also turned to directing.

Alexandra Elizabeth Kingston was born on March 11, 1963, in Epsom, Surrey, England. (Some sources say London.) Her character, surgeon Dr. Elizabeth Corday, had been born and trained in England and had come to Chicago to widen her surgical experience. Joining the show in season 4, Corday married Dr. Mark Greene, but stayed on at County after his death until season 11, when she returned to England, with their daughter.

Alex Kingston has appeared as River Song in various series and episodes of "Doctor Who" since 2008.

Answer: Julianna Margulies

Julianna Margulies was born on June 8, 1966, not far from New York City. Growing up she lived in France and England for some time, before obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts. Her "ER" character, Nurse Carol Hathaway was there from the very beginning, with her various romantic entanglements (especially with Dr. Doug Ross, played by George Clooney) being explored, alongside her growth in her role as a leader of the nursing staff. The season 3 episode "The Long Way Around" in which she and others were held hostage in a convenience store was memorable, not least because one of the hostage-takers was played by Ewan McGregor! Carol followed Doug to Seattle in season six, but turned up a couple of times in later seasons.

Margulies went on to star in "The Good Wife" (2009-2016) and "The Morning Show" (2021-2023).

Answer: Eriq La Salle

Eriq was born Erik Ki La Salle, in Hartford, Connecticut, on July 23, 1962. He was educated at Julliard and the Tisch School of the Arts, and his movie credits include "Coming to America" (1988) and "One Hour Photo" (2002). His character, Peter Benton, was an original on "ER", and a main cast member for the first eight seasons. Benton was extremely focused on his career, but found time to care for and encourage his son, Reese, especially after the boy's mother was killed in an accident. Learning to communicate with the youngster using sign language was only part of the process.

La Salle has gone on to a career behind the cameras, producing and directing a number of projects, while still making occasional acting appearances.

Answer: Noah Wyle

Noah Wyle was born on June 4, 1971, in Hollywood, but not into a "show business" family, oddly enough. Early movie roles included a young marine corporal in "A Few Good Men" (1992) and a German youth in "Swing Kids" (1993). As John Carter in "ER" he appeared from the very beginning, through most of the first twelve seasons. Carter progressed from medical student to intern to resident to full-fledged ER doctor during that time. He also spent time in various parts of Africa, providing medical assistance in troubled territories. Some of these expeditions were shown as part of the series, but eventually Carter stayed in Africa, and the show stayed in Chicago. In the final season Carter returned to Chicago for health reasons, and these having been resolved he decided to stay in that city. Wyle's tally of episodes was 254 (of 331), just four more than Laura Innes (Kerry Weaver).

In 2025, Noah Wyle was back in a hospital setting, this time in Pittsburgh, as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch in "The Pitt". He also served as executive producer and directed a few episodes of this show.

Sharif Atkins was born on January 29, 1975. His "ER" character, Michael Gallant, was put through medical school by the US Army and in return was expected to serve for a certain length of time once qualified. He and fellow ER doctor Neela Rasgotra (Parminder Nagra) married after he had finished a tour in Iraq, but he was soon sent back, and killed by a roadside bomb. His tenure in the series ran from season 8 through season 12.

Since leaving "ER", Atkins has appeared in a number of television programmes and movies, including "Guardians of the Galaxy" (2014).

Ming-Na was born in Coloane Island, Macau on November 20 1963. As a child she moved, with her mother, first to Hong Kong and then to New York and finally to Pittsburgh. She received a degree in theatre from Carnegie Mellon University, and first appeared in "As the World Turns" in 1988. That was followed up by a role in "The Joy Luck Club" (1993). She joined the cast of "ER" in season 1 as student "Deb" Chen, who had to leave under a bit of a cloud. In season 6 she returned, now a resident known as Jing-Mei Chen, who remained on staff until season 11.

Macau and Mozambique are both former Portuguese colonies, but the latter is in Africa.

Answer: Sherry Stringfield

Sherry was born on June 24, 1967. Between 1986 and 1990 she appeared in over 140 episodes of the soap "The Guiding Light", and just prior to beginning her run on "ER" she was a member of the cast of "NYPD Blue". Her "ER" character, Dr. Susan Lewis, was an original cast member. For family reasons (involving her sister and niece), Dr. Lewis moved to Arizona during season 3, returning in the eighth season to resume her duties at County. Eventually she left again to take a more senior position at a different hospital.
