Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Here are the games which use a die, meaning one, or dice, meaning two or more:

'Ludo', which is a game where two, three or four players throw a die to enable them to move their tokens to safety around a board. The number of moves is determined by the number on the die. Landing on another player's token sends that person's playing piece back to the start.

'Monopoly' uses two dice, and players take it in turns to go around the playing board. They can buy various properties they land on, but have to pay rent to another player if the property has already been bought. The game has many variations, often based on popular films such as 'Star Wars'.

'Trivial Pursuit' is a board game based on trivia, like this site. Players throw a single die and have to answer a question based on the colour of the square they land on. Reaching particular squares and answering correctly earns a wedge of the same colour, with the aim being to collect all six.

'Cluedo' is also known as 'Clue', but the game play and rules are the same. It uses two dice to work out moves during which players collect cards which give clues to a murder. The object of the game is to work out who was killed, where the murder took place and which weapon was used. The first person to correctly identify all three is the winner.

'Snakes and Ladders' is the traditional name of the next game, although it is also known as 'Chutes and Ladders'. Players throw a single die to see how many spaces they can move. If they land on a ladder, they can move up it and progress, but landing on a snake or chute means sliding back down and having to repeat their moves.

'Trouble' is also called 'Frustration' and the game play is very similar to 'Ludo'. The game only has one die, but this one is contained in a plastic container. Pressing on the top of this makes the die spin to give the player the number of places to move.

'Risk' is a strategy game in which players try to conquer territories. It normally uses five dice, three red and two white. The numbers rolled determine which player has an advantage and whether attack or defence is the better tactic.

'Farkle', sometimes spelled 'Farkel', uses six dice. At the beginning of the game, the players each throw six dice, with the total scores being added up according to the game's rules. In the next round, the number of dice used is reduces. The aim is to reach a specified total score.

'Yahtzee' is another game which uses multiple dice. This time, the number is five. It's another game which involves reaching a total score. Rolling all five dice and obtaining the same number on each is called a 'Yahtzee' and scores bonus points.

'Backgammon' is a game for two players and uses two dice. The aim is to move the counters, which are black for one player and white for the other, the number of moves indicated by the dice. The total can be used to move just one counter or split between two counters - again the number of moves allowed is in accordance with the number on the die.

The games which don't use dice are these:

'Sorry!', which is another game based on 'Ludo' but which works by drawing cards to determine how many moves the playing piece can make. 'Scrabble', which is a word creation game where players draw tiles, each of which has a letter on it. 'Stratego' play resembles draughts (UK name) or checkers (US name), using different coloured pieces for the two players to move across the playing field. 'Candy Land', a game for younger children, also uses cards, with six different colours. 'Chinese Checkers' uses marbles and 'Chess', which is for older children and adults, has several different playing pieces which can move in different ways.
