Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode debuted on May 22, 1999, on which kids' programming block?

Answer: Fox Kids

The show aired on August 28th, 1993, on Fox Kids and was a staple in the programming block until the Fox Box replaced it on September 14, 2002. It was bought by Disney in 2001 before being rebought by Saban in 2018. It was then acquired by Hasbro in 2018.
2. The episode was hosted by Jason's actor, Austin St. John, with who as the co-host?

Answer: Walter Jones

After the opening titles, we see Austin and Walter in the Saban Audio Recording studio going over how the show came into existence and the story up to "Power Rangers Lost Galaxy". As they show the footage, they got into a bit of an argument as to who the coolest ranger was.
3. The footage where we see the rangers morphed and fighting monsters and other bad guys was actually taken from which Japanese television show series?

Answer: Super Sentai

Later, as the "Power Rangers" gained popularity, Saban would experiment with other Japanese shows. "Masked Rider" used footage from "Kamen Rider", "VR Troopers" used footage from the "Metal Hero Series", and "Big Bad Beetleborgs" used footage from "Juukou B-Fighter".
4. A little over six and a half minutes into the episode, where do we see the group before actually becoming Power Rangers?

Answer: Bowling Alley

We first see the teenagers in a friendly game of bowling. After Zack gets a near strike, he goes around flaunting his skill before psyching Jason out, causing his ball to go into the gutters.
5. What was the main difference between Trini in the unaired pilot and the one that actually aired?

Answer: Different Actress

Before the actual pilot episode plays, Walter explicitly states that Trini was played by Audri Dubois. However, she was immediately fired after asking for a pay raise and was replaced by Thuy Trang.
6. If you look closely, you'll see a television airing which anime?

Answer: Samurai Pizza Cats

After Kimberly accidentally throws her ball into someone's food, a fight breaks out and we see the anime as Trini kicks someone to the wall where the television is mounted. Ironically, although "Samurai Pizza Cats" was produced by Saban, it never aired on Fox Kids in the United States.
7. After Rita begins her attack, Alpha 5 teleports the teens to the Command Center, but what did NOT change from the episode that originally aired?

Answer: Some of the dialogue used

When the rangers are teleported to the command center, Billy says "Wow. A fully sentient, multifunctional automaton." Kimberly asks, "Excuse me, will somebody come back to earth and pick me up? Because I'm totally confused." Also when Zack scoffs at Zordon (who's named Zoltar in the unaired pilot), he replies, "Ah, a non-believer." Alpha 5 looks more blocky as well as his head being different, Zoltar and his tube are green instead of blue, and the Command Center has different poles and is darker than in the originally aired episode.
8. What's the key difference between the aired episode and unaired pilot when the rangers are attacked by putties after getting their powers?

Answer: They cry for help after initial defeat in the pilot

As in the official premiere episode, the rangers are unable to defeat the putties at first. In the show, the rangers are courageous teenagers who never backed down and surrendered, even when things got tough. But the way they cry for help in the unaired pilot shows them in a different light.
9. After the rangers morph and defeat the putties, they fight Goldar and what other monster?

Answer: King Sphinx

If you look closely, they're fighting King Sphinx, which would be featured in the episode "A Pressing Engagement". But in the pilot episode, he was named Fly Guy.
10. After the battle, the rangers are teleported back to the command center, but what does NOT happen in the pilot that happens in the aired episode?

Answer: They're told the rules

Every true "Power Ranger" fan will know the three basic rules: 1) Never use your powers for personal gain, 2) Never escalate a fight unless the enemy forces you to and 3) Always keep your identities a secret. Never let anyone know your true identity. Needless to say, without these rules, the rangers would've been very different people.
