Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Three of the names are of children who won Golden Tickets in the book 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', which first appeared in 1964. They were Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teavee and Augustus Gloop. The other two were Veruca Salt and, of course, Charlie Bucket, the hero of the story. The prize is to visit Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, where four children end up misbehaving, leaving Charlie as the winner, becoming the heir to the whole factory.

James Trotter is the main character from 'James and the Giant Peach', published in 1961. James is orphaned and sent to live with his aunts, one of whom is Aunty Spiker and the other Aunty Sponge, who are extremely cruel to him. James is given some magic crystals which he spills, causing a huge peach to grow in the aunts' garden. After finding a hole, James crawls inside the peach and discovers lots of creatures. The aunts are squashed by the peach and James makes lots of new friends.

Matilda Wormwood and Agatha Trunchbull are both characters from the book called 'Matilda', which Dahl wrote in 1988. Matilda is very clever, but her parents refuse to recognise this and send her to a school run by Miss Trunchbull. The headmistress is cruel and treats the children very badly, but Matilda is saved by Miss Honey, a kind teacher, who eventually gives her a safe home.

Sophie comes from the 1982 book 'The BFG' which you probably know is short for 'Big Friendly Giant'. Sophie is living in an orphanage when she catches sight of the giant one night. He captures her, but tells her it's only to stop her from telling anyone that she's seen a real giant. Sophie has the brainwave of enlisting the help of the Queen, with the BFG and other giants finding a home in Windsor Great Park, near Windsor Castle.

Farmer Bunce, along with two other farmers named Boggis and Bean, appear in 'Fantastic Mr Fox', a 1970 book by Roald Dahl. The fox in the story is very clever and cunning, and manages to outwit the three farmers regularly, stealing chickens from each of them. The fox is nearly caught, but escapes with only his tail shot off. The farmers think they have cornered the fox and stand guard over the entrance to his den, but the fox, aided by other animals, has found another exit.

George Kranky is the main character from 'George's Marvellous Medicine', which first appeared in 1981. As is usual with Dahl, George is a mistreated child although, for once, it isn't his parents who are unkind to him but his grandmother. George decides to take revenge by concocting a potion and telling his grandmother it is her new medicine. It makes her grow very tall. George's efforts to recreate the medicine lead to various complications and the complete disappearance of his grandmother.

The incorrect answers are two characters created by Beatrix Potter, in Samuel Whiskers and Jeremy Fisher. Samuel is a rat and Jeremy is a frog and each of them has their own book. Violet Elizabeth Bott and Ginger Flowerdew appear in the 'Just William' stories written by Richmal Crompton in which William Brown in the main character. Georgina Kirrin is better known as George, one of the 'Famous Five' created by Enid Blyton who appear in numerous books. Billy Bunter, created by Charles Hamilton under the name of Frank Richards. Billy's stories are set in a boarding school.
