Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The 'Ender's Game' series began in 1985 with the novel of the same name. The novel, and subsequent ones, describe Earth as under siege by an alien species. Ender (real name Andrew Wiggin) is one of the children being trained to be future defenders against the invaders. The second book in the series is 'Speaker for the Dead', published in 1986. A companion series to the 'Ender's Game' series, 'The Shadow Series' tells their stories from the perspective of other characters from the original books with 'Shadow of the Hegemon' dating from 2001.

The 'Women of Genesis' is a series of books about women of the Old Testament, wives of the patriarchs with 'Leah and Rachel' being the third, dating from 2004. They were the two wives of Jacob. The first in the series dates from 2000 and is called 'Sarah', the wife of Abraham while 'Rebekah' (2001) concentrates on Isaac's wife.

'Wakers' published in 2022, is the first novel of what is described as the 'Side-Step Trilogy' and was followed by 'Reawakening' in 2025. The stories focus on a teenager who has the ability to create versions of himself in parallel lands - the 'side-stepping' that gives the series its title. At the time of writing, these are the only two books published.

'Seventh Son' is the first novel, dating from 1987, in the series called 'The Tales of Alvin Maker', historical fantasy novels set in the American frontier regions of the early nineteenth century. Real events are used as the basis but with different outcomes from real life history. 1992 saw the publication of 'Memory of Earth', the first novel in 'The Homecoming Saga' . The series takes its inspiration from the Book of Mormon and is set millions of years in the future.

The 'Laddertop' book series began in 2011 with 'Volume I' and the books are a joint venture with Card's daughter, Emily. A second novel appeared in 2013 while the third story in the series is only available as a 2022 audiobook at the time of writing this quiz. 'The Worthing Chronicles' from 1983 is another sci-fi series written by Card, with the novel listed being a revised version of an earlier book in the series, originally published in 1979 under the title 'Hot Sleep',

'Empire', published in 2006 forms part of the 'Empire Duet' along with the sequel 'Hidden Empire', dating from 2009. 'Ruins', from 2012, is the second book in the 'Pathfinder Series'. The first book, 'Pathfinder', introduced another young hero in Rigg with the series combining elements of history with sci-fi and fantasy. There are three novels in the series, said to be complete, published between 2010 and 2014.

As well as his various series of books, Card has also published stand alone novels and the final two choices come from this list. 'A Planet Called Treason' was published in 1979 and is one of the author's earliest published works. It is another in the science fiction genre and was revised and reissued in 1988 when it was given the shorter title of 'Treason'. 'Wyrms' is another novel to feature a young character, this time a fifteen year old girl named Patience. Like many of the author's works, it is set on a futuristic planet.

The incorrect options are other fantasy series. 'The Amber Spyglass' is one of the novels from Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy. 'Inkdeath' is one of the 'Inkheart' series by Cornelia Funke while 'The Hero of Ages' is part of Brandon Sanderson's 'Mistborn' series. 'The Seeing Stone' belongs to the 'Spiderwick Chronicles' written by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black while 'Catching Fire' is part of 'The Hunger Games' series written by Suzanne Collins. Finally, 'Brisingr' is part of Christopher Paolini's 'Inheritance Cycle'.
