Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lucy and Edmund went to stay with their aunt and uncle, but do you know what their names are?

Answer: Harold and Alberta

Their son, Eustance, called them by their first names.
2. What happened to Lucy's shoes?

Answer: She kicked them off when she was in the water

'Lucy kept her head and kicked her shoes off. She even kept her mouth shut and her eyes open.'
3. When offered spiced wine, what did Eustance demand to be given?

Answer: Plumptree's Vitaminized Nerve Food and distilled water

Of course, the Narnians on board the ship were totally confused by this!
4. How tall was Reepicheep?

Answer: 2 foot

'Its left paw rested on the hilt of a sword very nearly as long as its tail. Its balance, as it paced gravely along the swaying deck, was perfect, and its manners courtly.'
5. Caspian is looking for his father's friends - how many were sent off and are now missing?

Answer: 7

They were the Lords Revilian, Bern, Argoz, Mavramorn, Octesian, Restimar and Rhoop.
6. On which Lone Island did Caspian, Lucy, Edmund, Eustace and Reepicheep go walking?

Answer: Felimath

They were captured by slavers, and then rescued when they were being sold at Narrowhaven on the Island of Doorn.
7. When could a citizen of the Lone Islands see the Governor without an appointment?

Answer: Between 9 and 10 pm on the second Saturday of every month

It certainly does not make it easy!
8. Which of the missing Lords did Caspian make Duke of the Lone Islands to replace Governor Gumpas as head of state?

Answer: Lord Bern

Caspian was very annoyed at how successive Governors had let a slave trade establish itself in the islands, and appointed Bern a Duke to govern the islands in future.
9. The slavers had trouble selling Eustace. What price did they offer - still without takers?

Answer: 5 crescents

'Oh him?' said Pug. 'Oh take him and welcome. Glad to have him off my hands. I never see such a drug in the market in all my born days. Priced him at five crescents in the end and even so nobody'd have him. Threw him in free with other lots and still no one would have him. Wouldn't touch him. Wouldn't look at him. Tacks, bring out Sulky.'
10. What does Reepicheep want to do when they discover the dragon has positioned himself between them and the ship?

Answer: Engage it in single combat

His wishes are not actually said, but implied, and he is told that he cannot engage it in single combat.
11. Whose bracelet was stuck on Eustace's fore-leg when he was a dragon?

Answer: Lord Octesian's

Everyone now believed that the Lord Octesian had met his fate on the island, even though they did not know for sure what had happened.
12. How did the crew defeat the sea serpent?

Answer: They pushed him off the ship

Reepicheep could see that the serpent was coiling itself around the ship in order to squeeze it in half, and he shouted to everyone to push the animal off the ship's end. By the time the serpent realised he had lost his prey, they had sailed out of reach.
13. Where did Aslan first appear to Caspian and his friends in this book?

Answer: Deathwater

He appeared to stop the fight between Edmund and Caspian, who were arguing over the ownership of the pool which turned things into gold. Caspian had named the island Goldwater, but Reepicheep suggested that the name be changed to Deathwater. None of them told any of the crew what they had found. (Only Eustace saw Aslan on Dragon Island.)
14. What was unusual about the people who lived on the Island of the Voices?

Answer: They were invisible

The Dufflepuds had made themselves invisible by magic. They were not the cleverest of creatures, but were able to force Lucy to visit the Magician's rooms to reverse the spell.
15. What was unusual about the Magician's Book?

Answer: It was impossible to turn back to a previous page

Lucy only tried to turn the pages back once. She read a lovely story and then had trouble remembering it, so she tried to re-read the story, but was unable to do so.
16. What were Aslan's first words to Lucy when she had said the words of the spell?

Answer: 'I have been here all the time.'

Lucy's spell had brought Aslan back into view, just as it did the Dufflepuds and the Magician. As he had been seen on Deathwater, this shows that he is not just in one place at a time, and while he obeys the rules of the magic to be invisible in one place, he is not so hampered in another.
17. The Dufflepuds got a little confused over their new name of 'monopods' and before they finally settled on 'Dufflepuds' they mentioned a few variations. Which of the following was NOT mentioned?

Answer: Momapuds

They were originally ugly dwarfs, then the Magician changed them into Monopods - with just the one leg and a huge foot. Having been called 'Duffers' before, they eventually settled for a mixture of the two names - and became 'Dufflepuds'.
18. Who is the only member of the ship's company who is not afraid of the Island of Dreams?

Answer: Reepicheep

Once they hear that it is the island where real dreams (nightmares) come true, every single member of the ship's company (but for Reepicheep) start to row with all all their might. Lucy calls on Aslan for help and they are saved. Lord Rhoop has escaped the island with them.
19. How many sleeping Lords did the children find at the table?

Answer: 3

They were the Lords Revilian, Argoz and Mavramorn. They had fallen into an enchanted sleep because they touched the stone knife which was kept on the table (this knife was the one which was used to kill Aslan in 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe').
20. The men were sleeping at a table which was laid with a feast. This place had a name - what was it?

Answer: 'Aslan's Table'

'Why is it called Aslan's Table?' asked Lucy presently.
'It is set here by his bidding,' said the girl, 'for those who come so far. Some call this island the World's End, for though you can sail further, this is the beginning of the end.'

'This table,' said Ramandu, 'will be filled with a king's feast every day at sunset.'
21. What did the bird bring to Ramandu to eat?

Answer: a fire-berry

'I am a star at rest, my daughter. Every morning a bird brings me a fire-berry from the valleys in the sun, and each fire-berry takes away a little of my age.'
22. Which members of the ship's company were left behind at the table?

Answer: Lord Rhoop and Pittencream

Lord Rhoop was given sleep without dreams to recouperate. Pittencream was a sailor who did not want to go on to the edge of the world.
23. Lucy sees evidence of merpeople in the shallower seas leading the the eastern edge of the world. Of the answers given below, only one lists three things she sees - which list is that?

Answer: a hunting party, a shepherd girl and a castle

Lucy saw a city or a castle on a hill, then she saw a hunting party. Later she saw a shepherd girl with her fish grazing in the shallows.
24. Who was the first to taste the water of the sea at the eastern edge of the world?

Answer: Reepicheep

Had Reepicheep not fallen into the water and tasted it, they would not have thought to do so. Caspian was the next to taste the water, then Lucy.
25. What food did the Lamb offer the children at the world's end?

Answer: Fish

'Please, Lamb,' said Lucy, 'is this the way to Aslan's country?'
'Not for you,' said the Lamb. 'For you the door into Aslan's country is from your own world.'
'What!' said Edmund. 'Is there a way into Aslan's country from our own world too?'
'There is a way into my country from all the worlds,' said the Lamb; but as he spoke his snowly white flushed into tawny gold and his size changed and he was Aslan himself, towering above them and scattering light from his mane.
