Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, but is geographically located on the island of Ireland, alongside the Republic of Ireland (which isn't part of the UK).

Liverpool Airport opened in 1933 under the moniker of Speke Airport. It was renamed in 2001 in tribute to former Beatle John Lennon, who was born in the city. The airport handles flights to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, as well as various domestic destinations.

Neville Chamberlain was the PM who famously announced that Britain was at war with Germany on September 3rd, 1939. Much criticised for his "appeasement" of Hitler immediately prior to the war, he was gone by May, 1940, replaced by Winston Churchill. Churchill led Britain through some of its darkest hours, and was still in power on VE Day in May 8th, 1945. His "reward" was to see his Conservative party losing by a landslide to Labour in a general election in July of that year. Clement Attlee thus became Prime Minister for the remainder of the war, ending on VJ Day on August 15th, 1945.
