Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The very first thing the players and editors will notice about your quiz is its title, so you have to make sure you choose a good one. Which of the following statements regarding quiz titles is NOT true?

Answer: A title such as "My First Quiz" is acceptable

Completely generic quiz titles are not acceptable. Players should be able to get an idea of what the quiz is about just by its title. For example, if you're writing a quiz about the Tudor dynasty, a clear title would be "The History of Tudors". If your quiz presents them in a positive manner, you can put a spin on it by calling it "The Magnificent Tudors".
2. After you pick the appropriate category for your quiz, you read the special instructions about it and notice that it is called a 'closed category'. What does it mean when a category is closed?

Answer: No new quizzes are accepted

Some of the categories are more popular than others. As a result, they end up with many similar quizzes, which sometimes even ask the same questions. Occasionally, some categories end up having too many quizzes and they are marked as 'closed'. When a category is closed, no new quizzes are accepted into it, so you should always check before you start a quiz if its category is closed (it will be mentioned).
3. As an avid basketball fan who likes to study statistics, you decide to create a quiz about NBA records. You first question is: "Who is the player with the most points in the history of the NBA?". What is the problem with this question?

Answer: All of these

Time dependency is the biggest problem with submitted questions, and it affects all categories, not only sports. The problem with time-based questions is that they will become stale in the future, either because the answer will change or because the event will have happened. For example, if you ask "Which city will host the 2016 Olympics?", the answer will always be 'Rio de Janeiro', but the wording will look absurd in 2020. Likewise, if you ask "Who is the player with the most points in the history of the NBA?", the current answer is 'Kareem Abdul-Jabbar', but some day another player will surpass him and the answer you provide will be incorrect. In fact, in this case there is an additional problem, because Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the top-scorer only in regular season games, while the leader in playoff points scored is Michael Jordan. Since the question doesn't specify whether it's looking for regular season or playoffs top-scorer, either answer could be correct.

Fortunately, time dependency can be solved by re-wording the question in a way that it won't go stale. For example, you could ask "On October 2, 2009, the host city of the 2016 Olympics was announced. Which city was it?". This way, there will not be a problem with the wording of your question even after the 2016 Olympics take place. In fact, 'Rio de Janeiro' will be the correct answer even in the unlikely case that for some reason it doesn't host the 2016 Olympics!
4. Guidelines for television quizzes specify that you need to consult an editor if you want to create a quiz with more than 15 questions. When you decide to create an all-quote quiz about your favorite tv show, you come up with more than 25 questions. Which of the following actions should you NOT do?

Answer: Go ahead and create a 25-question quiz without consulting an editor

Ignoring the guidelines is not a good idea. In this case, a big quiz would end up rejected or truncated. Consulting an editor will save you from having to re-submit your quiz. If you don't want to do that, then creating smaller quizzes is your best option. Not only are they easier to write, but if you choose the most interesting questions, your quiz will make a better impression.
5. You are familiar with both British and American spelling, and have no problem with using either. As a result, when you create a quiz about colors, you end up spelling it sometimes 'colours' and others 'colors'. Is this acceptable?

Answer: No

Alternating between British and American spelling is not acceptable in a quiz. As it is stated in the Quiz Creation Guidelines: "British or American English spelling is acceptable -- please just be consistent". So if you created a quiz about colors, you'd have to choose either 'colours' or 'colors' as a spelling and use it throughout the whole quiz.
6. Multiple choice type questions will usually be the majority in your quiz (there are a few exceptions to this), so you have to be careful when you choose the incorrect answers. If your question is "Which city hosted the 2000 Olympics?" (the correct answer is Sydney), which of the of the following would be a bad incorrect answer?

Answer: "I don't know"

According to the Quiz Guidelines, incorrect answers have to be actual answers. If the correct answer is capitalized, then they also have to be, so that no answer stands out. In the case of "Which city hosted the 2000 Olympics?", Athens, Beijing and London are good incorrect answers because all three are real cities which hosted the Olympics recently (Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012). On the other hand, "I don't know" stands out immediately as an incorrect answer.
7. Fill in the Blank (FITB) questions are the hardest to write, because there are many rules that apply to them. If your FITB question is "Who published the general theory of relativity?", then which of the following sets of possible answers would be the best?

Answer: "Albert Einstein & Einstein"

"Albert Einstein & Einstein" means that either answer ("Albert Einstein" or "Einstein") is correct. The reason you should include both as correct answers is because a player may not know which one you're asking for, or may simply not remember Einstein's first name. It is also important to let players know that either answer will be accepted, by giving a hint like "Two words, or surname only".

Finally, "Albert Einstein & Einstein & einstein" has a redundant answer. The answers are not case sensitive, which means "Einstein" will be accepted even if the players use all capitals or all lowercase.
8. Thinking of a question is only half the work. After you have finished writing it, you have to add a piece of interesting information. In the question "Who published the general theory of relativity?", what could be considered as the most interesting information?

Answer: The year it was published, as well as a brief explanation of what general relativity is

Interesting information is a requirement for a good quiz. A quiz with no interesting info in its questions is very likely to be rejected. Additionally, adding interesting information helps players expand their knowledge on a subject or understand why they got a question wrong.

This is why simply repeating the answer is not considered interesting info. The fact that Einstein's second wife was his cousin is acceptable interesting info, but it's better suited for a question like "How many times did Albert Einstein get married?".
9. Finally, you have completed your quiz and submitted it! But after a few days, you still have no answer. What should you do?

Answer: Wait patiently, the editors will eventually check your quiz

The waiting time may differ significantly from one category to another, because some have many more quizzes submitted. The best thing you can do is wait for the editors to get to your quiz. Sending messages to ask for favors or complaining in the chat boards is certainly not going to help your case, and re-submitting your quiz will only send it to the end of the queue, making your waiting even longer.
10. Your quiz has finally been placed online, but a player sends you a correction note, disputing one of your answers and providing a different one. What should you do?

Answer: Look up information about the question again, and make changes if necessary

Receiving a correction note on a quiz that is already online can be discouraging, but you should not ignore it. Read what the player has to say and if you need to, look up information on the subject again to determine whether there's a mistake or not. Simply changing the answer to what the player suggested is not right, because they may be the ones mistaken. Ignoring a correction note or lying about making a correction when you haven't may cause your quiz to be taken offline.
