Question 3 of 10
3. This T-shirt was actually a present. On the back, it has the name of an artist's world tour, which took place in '84-'85. Can you name the artist? Hint

Question 4 of 10

Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. This T-shirt is one I made myself. I took a picture of the original animals from Winnie-the Pooh, owned by A A Milne and bought in Harrods over 70 years ago, in their current location. I then printed the picture onto a T-Shirt with "Free the Pooh Five!" Where were these stuffed animals kept for over 20 years? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. This T-shirt was bought on holiday. I have translated the first line of the text into English, courtesy of Yahoo! Babel Fish and my rudimentary Italian. "I am the beautiful daughter of the sea, recorded in Homer's Odyssey, belonging always to the culture and traditions of the Mediterranean traditions, I brought to life the legends of the sirens". The T-shirt celebrates the world's rarest seal, believed to be one of the most endangered mammals. What is it? Hint

Question 7 of 10

9. This T-shirt has not got any words or jokes. It's just a cheerful blue T-shirt with brightly coloured fishes on. I bought it in the Maldives. What ocean are the Maldives in? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. This T-Shirt has a strip cartoon on it. The first frame has a boy carrying his dog and saying "Sure, there I was having a good time at the dance and then you had to get sick..." In the third frame, the dog is lying on his back, thinking "I ate too much...I drank too much...and I danced too much..." In the last frame the dog is sitting up looking much happier and he's thinking "Let's do it again tomorrow night". Who was the cartoonist? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This T-shirt is a bright yellow one that I got printed myself. Given that it said on the back "There's No Intelligent Life Down Here", what did it say on the front?

Answer: Beam me up, Scotty

This was never said in a "Star Trek" episode or film but somehow became a cult saying (and a bumper sticker!) Similarly, Sherlock Holmes never said "Elementary, my dear Watson", Joe Friday never said "Just the facts, ma'am" and Humphrey Bogart as Rick never said "Play it again, Sam" in Casablanca.
2. I bought this T-shirt in Kenya. It has an animal walking towards you on the front and the same animal walking away from you on the back. The animal's scientific name is Equus burchellii bohmi. What animal is on my T-Shirt?

Answer: Zebra

This is the common, plains, or Grant's zebra, the horse of the Savannah. They have excellent awareness of predators, and it takes very little to make them gallop. Of the wrong answers, Przewalski's horse is the last wild horse left in the world, Eohippus was a tiny extinct horse and Peter Schaffer wrote the play "Equus".
3. This T-shirt was actually a present. On the back, it has the name of an artist's world tour, which took place in '84-'85. On the front, it has a gentleman, pictured from behind, wearing jeans and a white T-shirt, with a fancy black and silver belt and a red baseball cap hanging out of the right back pocket - he is standing in front of red and white stripes. Can you name the artist?

Answer: Bruce Springsteen

This was from the Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band's "Born In The USA" tour. Unfortunately it was my birthday, so I didn't get there, but I did get about three T-shirts from the guests at my party, who had attended the concert at Wembley Stadium! It was the Boss's longest (June '84 to October '85) and most successful tour.
4. I bought this T-shirt in Jamaica. It features an amusing picture and an appalling pun on a song. If I tell you the picture is of a shrimp (or a prawn, or maybe a crayfish) wearing a blazer that might be described as the colour of a sheet, can you guess which one of these is the correct pun?

Answer: A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean

The original song was 'A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation' by Marty Robbins. Jimmy Buffet (who is nearly as popular in Jamaica as Bob Marley) released an album called 'A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean' in 1973. Of the wrong answers, I mangled 'A Whiter Shade of Pale', by Procul Harum, but a snail is not a crustacean and neither is a starfish (which I mangled from 'Nights in White Satin' by the Moody Blues). 'Prawn to be Wild', which I mangled from Steppenwolf's 'Born to be Wild', could be the answer but doesn't have the white coat. I was very surprised to find while researching this quiz that 'Prawn to be Wild' is a point-and-click computer game.

Answer: New York Public Library

Winnie-the-Pooh, Tigger, Kanga, Eeyore and Piglet were incarcerated in a glass case in Central Children's Room (2nd Floor) of the New York Public Library on September 11th, 1987. Apparently there is a home for them in the main Humanities & Social Sciences Library at 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, following the conversion of the original library to a luxury hotel. Please could we have them back?
What is it?

Answer: Mediterranean monk seal

With the scientific name of Monachus monachus (Foca monaca in Italian), the Mediterranean monk seal is believed to number less than 600 specimens, having been hunted to virtual extinction. Sadly, despite the T-shirt claims of Sardinia being the seal's winter home, and its desire to return to set up its home in Sardinia, monk seal sightings in Sardinia are rare.
7. I thought I'd grown out of buying T-shirts, but I couldn't resist my latest purchase. It shows Shaun the Sheep, with, in sparkling lettering "A Star is Shaun!" In which Nick Park animated film did Shaun the Sheep first appear?

Answer: A Close Shave

This film, which won an Oscar for Best Animated Short in 1996, is absolutely brilliant and Shaun has since starred in his own animated series. All the wrong answers are also Wallace and Gromit films from Aardman Animations.
8. This T-shirt commemorates a world first that took place at approximately 10 a.m. on the morning of Thursday 17 December, 1903. Where is the most likely place for me to have bought it?

Answer: Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, USA

On the morning of 17 December 1903, at Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Orville Wright completed the first powered flight that had taken off from level ground, travelled through the air (a whole 120 feet) and landed under the control of its pilot. Of the wrong answers, all were events in 1903.

The first Milwaukee Mile motor race took place at West Allis on September 11 1903, the first west to east transatlantic radio broadcast took place from Cape Cod to England on 19 January 1903 and the first Tour de France set off from Villeneuve-Saint-Georges on 1 July 1903.
9. This T-shirt has not got any words or jokes. It's just a cheerful blue T-shirt with brightly coloured fishes on. I bought it in the Maldives. What ocean are the Maldives in?

Answer: Indian

The Maldives consists of over a thousand coral islands in the Indian Ocean, of which 250 are inhabited. The snorkeling there is amazing.

Answer: Charles Schulz

Well, the Quiz_Beagle couldn't do a quiz about T-shirts without a Snoopy T-shirt! Created by Charles M Schulz (26 November 1922 - 12 February 2000), Snoopy is probably the most famous beagle in the world. I hope you enjoyed the quiz, found it interesting and hopefully learned something.
