6. In which epic of English literature would a reader encounter a scene in which Satan battles Death to pass through the Gates of Hell, guarded by both Death and Sin?

Answer: Paradise Lost

"Paradise Lost" was written by John Milton and published in 1667, originally in 10 books but then 12 books in 1674. In Book Two, Satan has volunteered to travel through the nine layers of Hell, through The Void, and into Creation to discover the earth and the humans he can corrupt there to seek revenge against God.

However, he must pass through the Gates of Hell guarded by his daughter and son, Sin and Death respectively. He battles Death, but neither gets the upper hand in the struggle before Sin intervenes. Satan is immortal and cannot be defeated by Death; however, Death cannot be beaten by Satan either, for then the eventual sacrifice of Christ would be meaningless.

7. The English title of revolutionary leader Ernesto "Che" Guevara's memoir about his travels in South America mentions what means of transport?

Answer: motorcycle

In January 1952, 23-year-old medical student Ernesto Guevara left Buenos Aires, the capital of his native Argentina, with his friend Alberto Granado, a biochemist. The two embarked on a trip of the South American continent, riding on the back of a 1939 Norton 500 cc motorcycle nicknamed "La Poderosa II" (The Mighty One II), and reaching as far north as Miami before heading back to Buenos Aires. During the journey, which lasted nine months and covered over 8,000 km (5,000 mi), Guevara witnessed firsthand the plight of the common people, whose life was blighted by disease, exploitation and injustice. Guevara's travelogue was published posthumously in 1993 with the title of "Notas de viaje" (Travel Notes); the English translation, titled "The Motorcycle Diaries", was published in 1995.

The book was adapted into a film by the same title ("Diarios de motocicleta" in Spanish), released in 2004.

10. Orsino, Sir Toby Belch and Sir Andrew Aguecheek are characters in which Shakesperian comedy set in Illyria, and with the alternative title "What You Will"?

Answer: Twelfth Night

It is generally accepted that "Twelfth Night" was written at the turn of the sixteenth century as a play for Christmas. It is a tale of mistaken identity and misplaced love, that at times becomes (in my opinion) little more than a bawdy farce. Orsino is the Duke of Illyria, Sir Andrew Aguecheek is an over stereotypical, wealthy fool and Sir Toby Belch, the unarguable highlight of the play, a drunk, vast on exuberance but lacking in ingenuity.
