Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. George Clooney played the part of Danny Ocean in the series of "Ocean's" films. Who played the same part in director Lewis Milestone's original, 1960 version of the movie?

Answer: Frank Sinatra

The first version of "Ocean's Eleven" was released in 1960. It is a heist movie, where a gang of flying veterans assemble in Las Vegas with a plan to rob five different casinos during the course of one night. When Sinatra was introduced to the part of gang leader Danny Ocean, his apparent reaction was "Forget the movie, let's pull the job!" George Raft, Red Skelton and Richard Boone all made cameo performances in the 1960 version. George Clooney's portrayal of Danny Ocean in 2001 was for me, chintzy compared to the performance of Frank Sinatra some forty years earlier.

2. Which legendary, violet-eyed actress had an uncredited role as a child in the 1944 Orson Welles version of "Jane Eyre"?

Answer: Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor played Helen Burns, Jane Eyre's beloved friend at boarding school. Screen time for Taylor was minimal in the film, and as was often the case with films of the era, credits were only listed for major roles, so Taylor went unmentioned.

3. Which of these movie franchises has its origins in a ride which opened at Disneyland in 1967?

Answer: Pirates of the Caribbean

"Pirates of the Caribbean" was in fact the last attraction which Walt Disney himself helped to design. It opened on 18th March 1967 in New Orleans Square at Disneyland, just three months after his death. The film series began with the opening of "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" in 2003.

Interestingly some sequences which copied the ride more closely were removed from the final script.

7. The bloody WWII movie "Hacksaw Ridge" was a true story of a hero. What was unique about the hero?

Answer: He was a conscientious objector.

The movie told the story of the first man in history to win the Medal of Honor as a non-combatant. Desmond T. Doss was a conscientious objector, who volunteered to serve in the army but only as a medic. As a practicing 7th Day Adventist, he believed that not only could he not kill anyone, he could not even touch a rifle during basic training. During the battle to take Okinawa, Doss was able to rescue over 70 wounded soldiers by singlehandedly lowering them by rope over the cliff called Hacksaw Ridge.
