Dear Mum and Dad,
I finished my first year at . I can't believe I am a wizard! I am so glad I do not have to live with Uncle Vernon and Aunt all the time now. No offense Mum, but your sister is batty. They hate our kind.

I made two new friends. is a red-headed boy. All his family are redheads and very nice. And I met a girl named Hermione; they are both in my house - - the same one the two of you were in - I was told. I thought I was going into Slytherin, but I asked the Sorting Hat not to put me there.

I am the youngest in a century on the Quidditch field! I love flying! Hermione said tried to knock me off my broom during one match. She did a spell to set his robes on fire, so I was safe, don't worry. She's a brilliant wizard! She needs to relax more though; she was doing homework before we even got off the train to Hogwarts.

Mostly school was good. There was that small issue with the in the bathroom that one time. Ron had boogies on his wand - yuck! But we knocked him out, and everything was fine. Then of course, at the end, I had to meet Lord . Mum, thanks so much. Professor explained to me later that I was able to defeat him because it was your love that saved me. And love is something he can't handle. I guess that's not enough. I can't ever repay you and Dad; I wish I could. But I will be a good wizard - not as good as Hermione - but good still.

Anyway, I need to go; it's almost time to catch the . Not looking forward to the summer, counting down the days until I return here in the fall. Love you both.

Answer:

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" came out in 2001. The movie was based on the first book, of the same name, written by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter (played by Daniel Radcliffe) turned 11 and learned he was a wizard, and the first movie was about his life at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

His Uncle Vernon (Richard Griffiths) and Aunt Petunia (Fiona Shaw) wanted nothing to do with magic as they, along with their son Dudley (Harry Melling), were Muggles (non-magic people). Petunia was the sister of Harry's mother, Lily. His parents were killed by Lord Voldemort when Harry was a baby.

Harry and his friend Ron (Rupert Grint) often broke the rules, sometimes to have fun, and other times because they had no choice, simply by virtue of being "the boy who lived". That was, Voldemort couldn't kill Harry when he killed Harry's parents. Hermione (Emma Watson) liked to follow the rules, but while trying to keep Ron and Harry out of trouble, usually ended up in their rule-breaking activities with them.

Quidditch was the most popular sport in the wizarding world. It was played in the air and was rather dangerous when Bludgers (one of the three types of balls) come at you. The Beaters were there to keep the other teammates from getting hit by the Bludgers. Harry was the Seeker. He was in charge of capturing the Snitch (a tiny golden ball with wings) before the Seeker on the other team captured it. When the Snitch was caught, the Seeker who caught it got 150 points for their team, and the game ended. The team with the most points (other points were scored when the Chasers got Quaffles -another ball- past the Keepers into the goals).

Ron, annoyed by Hermione constantly telling him the right way to do things, made a mean comment about her, and she overheard him. Upset, she went to the girls' bathroom and was crying. While she was there, a troll appeared, but she did not hear the announcement, and it ended up in the bathroom with her. Ron, feeling guilty about upsetting her, and Harry, just concerned about his friend, set off to find her before the troll got to her. Since the troll was in the bathroom with her, they fought the troll. Ron commented about the "troll boogies" on his wand.

In the end, Harry discovered it was Professor Quirrell (Ian Hart), not Professor Snape (Alan Rickman), who tried to harm him earlier. He also discovered Lord Voldemort (Richard Bremmer) was living as a parasite on Quirrell. Quirrell was trying to get the Sorcerer's Stone, and when Harry touched his face, Quirrell's face broke apart like it was disintegrating. Later, Harry asked Professor Dumbledore (Richard Harris) what happened, and he explained to Harry the power of love.
