Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Bear' Bailey, already in a bad mood, returns home at the start of the film to discover that his cat has passed away, having gotten into which of these in his bathroom medicine cabinet?

Answer: Oxycodone

The movie starts with a group of four friends, all of whom work together at the same music store, going about their lives. While 'Bear' pines after Nikki, Nikki is focused on trying to follow her dream of writing the perfect love story, a pursuit she quits her job to follow. Their friends, Ian and Sarah, push them to come out to their regular trivia night, and Bear tries to leverage that outing as an opportunity to express his feelings to Nikki. Naturally, it doesn't go all too well.

At the same time, Bear is struggling with his own life. Coming home from work, he finds that his cat, Sandy, has gotten into the medicine cabinet and broken into a tamper-proof bottle of oxycodone. He's too late to do anything about it. It's an emotionally heavy spot to be in, but it doesn't stop him from deciding to tell the truth to Nikki. He's got to take the shot.
2. Bear buys Nikki a One Wish Willow as a gift, but he ends up breaking it himself. What is his wish?

Answer: That Nikki love him more than anyone in the world

In order to smooth out his admission of having a crush on Nikki, Bear goes to a local oddity shop with the intent to buy her a tiger's eye stone, but instead his eye is drawn to a novelty gift called the 'One Wish Willow', which allegedly allows the user to receive one wish of their choosing once they break the willow inside. He picks it up with the intent to give it to her after their trivia night.

And when the night comes, he drives her home and suggests that he has the gift for her, but he forgets to hand it over. She ends up leaving the car and wishing him good night, but he fails - more than once - to express his true feelings. Instead, as she heads up to her front door, he pulls out the One Wish Willow and dejectedly wishes that Nikki Freeman loved him more than anyone else in the world. As soon as he broke it, something changed.
3. After Bear breaks the One Wish Willow, Nikki stays over for the night, claiming she needs to be around someone. As she explains, what has she been taking quite hard as of late?

Answer: Her dad's cancer

After Bear breaks the One Wish Willow, things change almost immediately with Nikki returning to the car and, at first, inviting him in. It's uncharacteristic and jilting, and so much so that Bear suggests she may be drunk and in need of rest. She explains, instead, that she's gotten word that her father has been diagnosed with leukaemia and she's taking it quite hard. As a result, he drives her back to his place - formerly his grandmother's - to stay over with company.

There, Nikki asks him to share the bed with her, and although Bear is nervous to do so, realizing that it's all quite abrupt, he joins her. It's not long before they share a kiss... and Nikki has what appears to be a panic attack. She snaps into a horrible realization, but as soon as this happens, it stops. Bear cautiously sleeps on the floor after this.

In the middle of the night, Bear has to check online as to whether or not the One Wish Willow actually works, and while some people on the internet believe it to be a piece-of-junk novelty toy from the '80s, others give resounding reviews of the item, truly thinking that it brings the wildest wishes to life. When Bear goes back to the bedroom, unsatisfied with his answers, Nikki asks where he was and beckons him back.

The next morning, Bear awakens to find that Nikki's made a full breakfast spread for him. It's weird, but it's nothing in comparison to walking into his kitchen to find that she's also made an impromptu memorial for Sandy, his dead cat, who she's laid out on the floor and surrounded with flowers. He tells her, point-blank, that it's very weird to have done.
4. After their first night together, Nikki alleges that she was only acting weird for what reason?

Answer: She was on Molly

Heading to work, Bear makes a point of telling Nikki not to make it all too apparent that she stayed over for the night, but it becomes more and more clear that she's acting quite weird towards him, often not even taking her eyes off him while she's supposed to be working. Ian asks about what went on, and Bear tries to explain based on what he knows about her father, but none of it really adds up. That afternoon, as they leave work, Ian drives Nikki home and he grills her for what's wrong.

That evening, after taking a shower and grabbing a change of clothes, Nikki heads to Bear's and explains that she was on MDMA, explaining that her weirdness was a result of just being on drugs. Standing at his door, she says that she likes what they have together. Nikki knows that he likes her, and it's enough to prompt Bear into admitting her has feelings for her. And that tips the pair of them into having a mutual relationship, even if there are some red flags.
5. At dinner, Bear admits that he wouldn't mind having a career as which of these?

Answer: A food critic

When Bear and Nikki go out for dinner, she admits that while she's been upfront about her career change, she's never really known what Bear wants to do, and he casually notes that it would be neat to be a food critic. Their conversation is interrupted when the phone rings, however; it's Ian, and he calls Bear a couple of times, almost as though it's an emergency. Bear decides to take it, heading around the corner to chat with his friend, discovering that Nikki's dad is actually perfectly healthy; she's been lying about the cancer. Ian has to note that Nikki appears to have snapped, weirdly, into a completely different person.

When Bear returns to the table, Nikki gifts him a tiger's eye (which, ironically, he planned to buy for her instead of the One Wish Willow). It belonged to her mother, and then her, and it's supposed to bring confidence and willpower. Now, she says, he can become a food critic. She insists that she wants his success because she loves him so, so, so, so, so much. She couldn't live without him,

That's when Bear asks her, point-blank, about her dad's cancer. Instead of being completely honest, she makes a scene in the middle of the restaurant, her panic drawing all attention.

Bear sleeps with her this evening. After, when Bear awakens in the middle of the night, he spies Nikki watching from the corner of the room, bathed in shadows. He asks why she's awake and she notes that she doesn't like her dreams. She feels like he doesn't like her as much as she likes him. The lack of mutuality makes her upset. When she finally gets back into bed, Bear makes a move to leave and she screams at him to stay.
6. Nikki makes Bear lunch for work, inadvertently serving him a bad sandwich. Does he end up eating any of it?

Answer: Yes

When Bear wakes up for work, he realizes that Nikki has cut some of his hair in the night. He asks her not to. He's upset, but he clearly wants to make this work. While Nikki is sad about his reprimand, she also indicates that she packed him a lunch, partly to apologize for the previous night. He notes that she terrified him, but she says it was nothing but a bad dream.

As Bear turns to leave, he realizes that Nikki has duct taped the front door shut in an effort to keep him home. She says that she'll miss him, but indicates that she'll stay there and wait until he gets back.

At the music store, Sarah finds the whole situation surprising. Nikki is clearly acting differently, but she doesn't quite know what their friend is playing at. Most importantly, she doesn't want bear to get hurt by being in a relationship with someone clearly going through it. As Bear sits to eat his lunch, he takes a bike and reads the note on the container: 'For my little food critic...'. As Bear discovers, she's made the sandwich with pieces of his cat.

That evening, after work, Ian insists that Bear give him a ride home, using the opportunity to admit that he's having a party and refused to invite him and Nikki. The reason, he notes, is that it looks like Nikki is clearly having problems, and their friends feel that Bear might be taking advantage of the situation. When they boil it down, Ian offers that Bear can come alone so they can have a boys night - he'll even tell Sarah to stay home. If Bear and Nikki's relationship is healthy, Nikki should have no problem with Bear going to a boy's night.
7. Bear, fearing that the One Wish Willow is to blame for his circumstance, calls their customer support line for advice. What, allegedly, is the only way to stop the process (according to the support agent)?

Answer: He'll need to die

After dropping Ian off at home, Bear pulls up to his house and finds the One Wish Willow box in his back seat. Thinking on the possibility of it having worked, he scans for any instructions or disclaimers but, instead, finds a customer support phone number on the side and gives it a call. Interestingly, someone picks up on the other end.

Bear notes that he wants to alter the wish, but that's not really something they do. It is real though; what he asked for happened. Just because Bear chose this for Nikki, the operator notes, does not make it less real.

Unfortunately, they don't cancel wishes. There's nothing that can really be done; the willow is broken and it'll be that way as long as he lives. When he dies, the wish will go away. It sounds like, the operator notes, Bear has a moral obligation to be there for Nikki. The operator notes that, if Bear wants, he can talk to Nikki; she's on the line, screaming in the background.

When Bear heads into his house, he finds Nikki still standing where he left her in the living room, having thrown up standing in place. Embarrassed, she says she'll shower and clean up. It's then that Bear admits he's planning to go to boy's night. This, naturally, doesn't go over well. Before long, the both of them head to Ian's.
8. Bear and Nikki attend a gathering with their friends, and the pair ruin the evening during which party game?

Answer: Truth or dare

Bear and Nikki end up at Ian's party to find that he lied about it being a boys night with the effort to just keep Nikki away. Things go fine, to a degree, until the group plays a game of Truth or Dare Jenga in the living room.

The game starts with Bear having to swap places with another player, and it separates him from Nikki - something she is very uncomfortable doing. When Nikki has her turn next, she stands up and confidently recites a poem to the room, alluding to wishes and the branch of a willow tree while speaking of a seemingly incestuous relationship between Hansel and Gretel. It's an awkward moment; everyone is left uncomfortable when it's done.

The next person to play is Bear, and when he draws his dare, he's told to kiss the person to his left, who happens to be Sarah. This goes as poorly as one would expect. Nikki, angry with this development, gets up, moves Sarah away, and positions herself to Bear's left while the room watches, getting a quick peck on the lips.

Ian has to ask Nikki, in front of the room, if she's okay, and she plays it off with a laugh, insisting that she's only kidding. That also happens to be the moment that she snaps into herself, if only for a brief moment, and recoils in terror. When she comes to, she smashes a beer bottle and uses it to stab at her own face.

Bear brings Nikki to the emergency room, but they refuse to take her as she appears to refuse treatment.
9. Sarah, to Bear's surprise, reveals which of the following about Nikki?

Answer: She's been sleeping with Ian for years

When Bear and Nikki return to Bear's place, he has to ask what possessed her, and she admits that she got nervous; she knows that Sarah likes him. He asks if Nikki likes him though, and she says that of course she does - it's all she's ever wanted. He needs space though, and while she doesn't want that, she says she'll be anything that he wants her to be. He offers to stay at Ian's and she can stay at his place, but she alludes to the idea that she'll stay in his bed, alone, bleeding out if he goes.

That evening, Sarah texts him and threatens to come over with some news. As Bear sneaks out of bed, Nikki whispers to him, seemingly begging him to kill her. She says that she doesn't want him to wake 'her' up, but he can stop this by putting her out of her misery. He asks if it's really so bad to be with him, but she acknowledges she's never been with him.

Outside, Bear gets into Sarah's vehicle and lies to her about Nikki while Sarah reveals that she got her final acceptance letter from her last school. Before she opens it though, she's frank with him. First, she notes that Nikki and Ian have been casually hooking up for two years, on and off, unromantically. Secondly, she's liked him this whole time, and never thought that Nikki was the right fit for him. Before Bear and Sarah can make good on the kiss they were supposed to have during Truth or Dare, Nikki smashes through the car window with a brick and then smashes Sarah's face into it over and over, killing her in her rage.

While Nikki cleans up the murder, she notes that it's Bear's fault - he wanted this, but she's so happy that he did. She volunteers to get rid of the body and 'make it ready'. If he goes home, she'll take it from there. He makes a couple of other stops instead.
10. Who's the only survivor?

Answer: Nikki

Bear first heads back to the shop where he bought the One Wish Willow, buying them out of the remainder and attempting to use them to undo his own wish. Unfortunately, he finds himself unable to snap a second.

Instead, he goes to Ian's and tells him everything. Worse, Sarah has been texting Ian to come over all day, a clear sign that Nikki is using her phone to lure Ian over and possibly harm him. Bear asks Ian to snap a One Wish Willow to reverse his initial wish, and if he does, he can be with Nikki. Ian doesn't do this. Instead, he wishes for a billion dollars. And sure enough, it begins to rain money in Ian's house.

When Bear finally goes home, he enters to find that Nikki hasn't solved the problem from the previous night, instead bringing Sarah's body back and dressing in her clothing. Nikki threatens to harm herself in retaliation before Ian bursts in and witnesses the events unfolding. Unfortunately for him, Nikki has a gun; she shoots him in the head.

Bear attempts to get Nikki to calm down, taking the gun from her while she asserts that they can be together forever (and ever and ever), and he hides in the bathroom, begging for a moment to himself. He contemplates shooting himself and ending things then and there, but can't bring himself to pull the trigger. Instead, opening the medicine cabinet, he grabs the bottle of oxycodone and downs a number of them.

Outside the bathroom door, however, Nikki finds one of the One Wish Willows that Bear picked up, and with a snap, things change for Bear. As if compelled, he exits the bathroom and embraces Nikki, as much in love with her as she is with him. The catch, however, is the oxycodone he'd already ingested. It only takes moments before he starts to convulse, choking on his own vomit while Nikki holds him in her arms.

In Bear's final moments, Nikki, visually compelled that she can't live without him, grabs the gun and prepares to shoot herself but, at a moment's notice, she snaps out of her supernatural compulsion. As she surveys the carnage around her, she tosses the gun and the body aside and cries in horror, the only survivor of Bear's wish.
