In "The Addams Family", Granny leads a seance on the anniversary of Fester's disappearance. At the seance, Gordon Craven arrives pretending to be Fester. This was all a plot by Gordon's mother, Ms. Abigail Craven and the Addams Family lawyer, Tully Alford, to swindle the Addamses out of their fortune.

"The Addams Family" begins on Christmas with a scene playing tribute to a classic Addams comic strip of the family pouring boiling oil on carolers. The film ends on Halloween, as the family plays various games and Morticia informs Gomez she is pregnant.

After Gordon assimilates himself into the family as Fester, he is welcomed back with a huge party with various Addams family members and friends. One of the highlights of the party is the Mamushka, a dance the Addamses perform only on special occasions. Gomez and Fester lead the Mamushka in honor of Fester's return home.

Tully and Ms. Craven planned to use Gordon to gain access to the Addams Mansion after which they could loot the vault and steal all the money. However, they had difficulties locating the vault and their plan was failing. It wasn't until the twins Flora and Fauna Amor told Tully that because Fester is the older brother of Gomez, the estate of their parents was technically Fester's.

This allowed Tully and Ms. Craven to secure a legal order (with the help of their corrupt judge friend) giving control of the Addams fortune to Fester.

Near the beginning of the film, the Addams Family attend a charity auction in which they offer (and buy back) an old finger trap antique. The charity was to support widows and orphans but the Addams seemed to have misunderstood this as they believed it was to create more widows and orphans.

After Fester marries Debbie and moves out of the mansion, Pubert falls ill. Instead of his usual pale complexion, Pubert's cheeks become rosy and his hair blonde and curly. This is caused by the separation anxiety of Fester moving away and being in danger. The only solution was to have Fester return home.

"The Addams Family Values" ends with the Addamses celebrating Pubert's first birthday with a party. Guests include Joel Glicker, Cousin Itt, Margaret and What. Also in attendance is What's new nanny, Dementia, who is bald and pale like Fester and with whom Fester falls immediately smitten with.

The Harmony Hut was a small building at Camp Chippewa where the counselors would send misbehaving children and force them to be cheery and perky. It was brightly decorated and campers sent there were forced to watch happy Disney movies and musicals. Wednesday, Pugsley and Joel were often sent there because of their lack of enthusiasm for camp life.

Toward the end of the film, Thing attempts to track down Fester and bring him home. At the same time, Debbie tries murdering Fester by blowing him up but that fails. Thing arrives just in time and drives Fester home to safety. However, Thing is just a hand so he has difficulty seeing and activating the gas and brake pedals.

Wednesday, normally gloomy and macabre, begins to have feelings for fellow outcast camper Joel Glicker. She finds him weird despite being a normal. Joel is Wednesday's guest at Fester's wedding and it is hinted they would be married when Wednesday catches the bouquet.

She later kisses Joel through a fence when she escapes from camp alongside Pugsley. At the end of the film, Joel attends Pubert's birthday party as Wednesday's guest and is proclaimed a "new friend" by Gomez, hinting Wednesday and Joel are dating.

Then after saying she would scare a husband to death, Wednesday appears to do just that when a hand pops up from the ground, scaring Joel.

Margaret appears in both films. In the first film, she is the unhappy wife of Tully Alford. She hates the Addams Family and finds them weird and scary. She prefers happy things and wears bright colors. However after being neglected by her husband, Margaret falls for Cousin Itt and begins changing her mind about the Addamses.

She seemingly accepts them by the end of the first film. In the second, Margaret's appearance has change and she now wears dark colors, her skin is paler and she has embraced the macabre.

In both films, the main villains are buried in the family cemetery. In the first film and after seizing the estate from Gomez, Gordon turns on Ms. Craven and Tully after realizing they were just using him to gain access to the fortune. After regaining his memory after being struck by lightening, Fester opens the book "Gone with the Wind" which releases a wild hurricane, sending Tully and Ms. Craven flying through the air and landing in two coffins Wednesday and Pugsley had waiting for them. The siblings then bury the villains, dead or not.

Debbie meets a similar fate in the second film. After capturing the Addamses and holding them in electric chairs, Debbie attempts to kill them. However, Pubert rewires the electric flow and Debbie winds up being electrocuted to death instead. Later, her tombstone is seen in the Addams cemetery. Although she was electrocuted to ashes, her hand apparently stuck out of the grave to scare Joel, although this could have been some kind of trick Wednesday pulled.

Wednesday and Pugsley put on a theatrical production in both films. In the first, they put on a bloody spectacle at their school play after being aided by Uncle Fester who created prosthetics filled with fake blood for them to use. The performance disgusted everyone in attendance but their family.

In the second film, Wednesday and Pugsley are forced to participate in their camp's Thanksgiving play called "A Turkey Named Brotherhood". Wednesday is assigned the role of Pocahontas and Pugsley plays a turkey. During the play Wednesday leads a rebellion of the outcasts, destroys the play and burns the set down.

In both films Morticia becomes a hostage. In the first movie, Morticia grows frustrated with the way her family was thrown out of their house, especially since she believed Fester was not the one in control. She returned to the Addams Mansion and demanded to see Fester. Instead, she was held and tortured by Ms. Craven and Tully and was rescued by Thing and Gomez and later Fester who refused to kill her after Ms. Craven ordered him to.

In the second film, Morticia is held captive by Debbie alongside all the other members of her family. Debbie holds them in electric chairs until they are saved by Pubert.

The Addamses are known to be big on family and they throw family gatherings in both films. In the first film, they throw a party to welcome Fester back home after he had disappeared 25 years earlier. In the second film, many of the same family members appear at Fester and Debbie's wedding.

Some of the family members who attend both events are Cousin Itt, Flora and Fauna Amor and Donald and Dexter both of whom are conjoined twins, Lumpy Addams, a hunchback and Digit Addams who has four arms.
