Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is 50 Cent's real name?

Answer: Curtis Jackson

Shawn Carter is Jay-Z's real name, Christopher Wallace was The Notorious B.I.G.'s real name, William Drayton Jr. is Flavor Flav's real name....and Curtis Jackson, born in Queen, NY, is 50 Cent's real name. He borrowed it from a robber named Kelvin Martin who made Brooklyn, New York the territory of his criminal endeavors when he moved to Fort Greene there. Curtis Jackson said that he chose that name because he was the "same kind of person 50 Cent was." That he could "provide for himself by any means." There's another theory that Kelvin Martin got the name because he entered a gambling dice game with 50 cents and ended up with $500.

In any case, he was shot dead in 1987.
2. According to a "Rolling Stone" interview, how did the group Nickelback come up with their name?

Answer: From a band member giving a nickel back in change at Starbucks

Before they hit it big, Mike Kroeger, the bass player of the band used to work at Starbucks in Canada. According to a 2007 article in "Rolling Stone" magazine, if a product at Starbucks had cost some odd Canadian dollars and 95 cents and a customer gave Kroeger a dollar amount rounded up, Kroeger routinely said "Here's your nickel back." The band later made a music video called "Trying Not To Love You" that hearkened back to the days of that Starbucks job by featuring mocha soy drinks, and actor Jason Alexander as a barista.
3. Although 50 Cent's officially released debut studio album was "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" in 2003, he actually produced an album in 2000 for Columbia Records but they cancelled its release. What was the title of that album that found life after being bootlegged by many people?

Answer: Power of The Dollar

"Billion Dollar Babies" was an album by Alice Cooper, "Three Dollar Bill, Yall$" is an album by Limp Bizkit, and "Can I Borrow a Dollar?" is an album by Common. Columbia cancelled the release of "Power of the Dollar" when they discovered in April 2000 that 50 Cent had been shot nine times outside of his grandmother's home, and he spent thirteen days in the hospital, and needed a walker after being released. Furthermore, they dropped him from their label.
4. Nickelback has had three albums that charted Number Two on the U.S. Billboard 200, but which one was their first album to hit Number One on the Billboard 200 chart?

Answer: All The Right Reasons

"All The Right Reasons" hit the top of the album charts for Nickelback in 2005, and has sold over 18 million albums worldwide. None of the other albums mentioned charted higher than Number 30 in the U.S. "Curb", their debut album, got to Number 182 on that chart, "The State" reached as high as Number 130, and "Get Rollin'" got to Number 30. The first three albums of theirs that reached Number Two were "Silver Side Up", "Dark Horse", and "Here and Now".
5. What is the name of 50 Cent's hip hop group that rose to stardom, which he named his record company after in 2003?

Answer: G-Unit

"Blood and Ink Records", "Tooth & Nail Records", and "Word Records" are all Christian rock record labels. 50 Cent made a big name for himself in the East Coast rap world, becoming one of the best-selling rappers in the world leading his hip hop group G-Unit. In 2003, he established G-Unit Records, signing on his G-Unit mates Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, and Tony Yayo.
6. Nickelback's 2001 "Silver Side Up" album yielded more Number One singles on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Billboard chart than any of their other albums. Three of these are those very Number One singles, but which one did NOT even chart?

Answer: Money Bought

Despite being released on the tragic day of 9/11 in 2001, the album was a big success for Nickelback. The record label, Roadrunner, decided along with the majority of the band that "How You Remind Me" would be the lead single released from the album, despite bass player Mike Kroeger's preference being to release "Never Again" first.

It didn't much matter as both singles did reach Number One. The single "Too Bad", written by lead singer Chad Kroeger, was partly autobiographical and that song too hit Number One. "Money Bought" was never released as a single.
7. After his first 13 Grammy Award nominations yielded no wins, 50 Cent finally did win in 2010 with his 14th nomination. What was the award for?

Answer: Best Rap Performance By a Duo Or Group: "Crack A Bottle" (with Eminem and Dr. Dre)

50 Cent's Grammy win was at the 52nd Grammy Awards when he won for his collaboration with Eminem and Dr. Dre on "Crack A Bottle" in the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group category. "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" is a recording by Jay-Z. 50 Cent did not write or perform anything for the film "Notorious", a biopic about the Notorious BIG.

There is no such category as Best Hip Hop Collaboration with Vocals.
8. With Nickelback's first six Grammy Award nominations they failed to win any of them. Which of these is NOT among the categories they've been nominated for?

Answer: Best New Artist

They were never nominated for Best New Artist, and of course never will be at this point. Amongst the Grammy nominations they have received, they were nominated for Record of the Year in 2003 for "How You Remind Me" but lost to "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones.

They were nominated for Best Rock Album in 2004 for "The Long Road" but lost to "One By One" by Foo Fighters. They were nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2005 for "Feelin' Way Too Damn Good" but lost to "Slither" by Velvet Revolver.
9. 50 Cent has embarked on quite a successful movie and TV career as an actor. Which of these projects has he NOT appeared in as an actor?

Answer: TV's "Atlanta" and the film "John Wick: Chapter 3" with Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne

50 Cent did not appear in the TV series "Atlanta" (2016-2022) starring Donald Glover nor did he appear in any of the John Wick movies, and neither did Laurence Fishburne, by the way. He did however play himself in "The Simpsons" episode "Pranksta Rap" and he played Hush, Stallone's best friend in the prison escape film "Escape Plan". 50 Cent played Kanan Stark in the Starz show "Power" which he co-created and helped produce, and he played himself in the spy comedy "Spy".

In "Entourage" he also played himself in the episode "One Car, Two Car, Red Car, Blue Car", and he played Marcus "Spider" Smith in the action thriller "Righteous Kill".
10. Nickelback has recorded a few covers of other recording artist's songs. Which of these is NOT amongst the first three covers they recorded?

Answer: "Penny Lane" by The Beatles

Nickelback recorded one of their favorite songs, "Dirty Laundry" in 2016, a song written by Don Henley and Danny Kortchmar back in 1982. They released it where it can be heard on Spotify. Nickelback covered ZZ Top's "Legs" for the 2011 album "ZZ Top: A Tribute from Friends" which also has various bands covering "Sharp Dressed Man", "Tush", "La Grange" and other ZZ Top hits. Nickelback covered Elton John's rocker "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" teaming up with Kid Rock and Dimebag Darrell to do so.

It's on their 2003 album "The Long Road."
