A "Cheers" Soundtrack: Volume Six Quiz

This is my final "Cheers" soundtrack, as I have one left for season 10 and the rest from the show's final season. Since it's my last one, I decided to make it a photo quiz to jazz things up. As always, just answer the questions and sing along.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "An Old-Fashioned Wedding," what song does Lilith sing while playing the spoons?

Answer: When You're Smiling

"When You're Smiling" was written by Larry Shay, Mark Fisher, and Joe Goodwin in 1928. One of the first recordings was done by Louis Armstrong in 1929.

Cliff tells Sam that Lilith is "doing everything but playing the spoons." Lilith then comes into the kitchen, grabs some spoons, and tells them, "give me an A-flat." Sam bangs some bottles together, and she goes out singing "When You're Smiling" while playing the spoons.
2. What song does Norm sing to Mr. Hoffmeyer when he gets nervous at his dream job interview?

Answer: This Old Man

"This Old Man" was published in 1842; however, it is not sure who wrote it.

Earlier in the episode, Rebecca tells Norm when she had an interview for her dream job at the House of Pancakes, she got nervous and complimented the man, took it back, and eventually started singing "Knick Knack Paddy Wack Song." The actual title for this song is "This Old Man." Norm then goes to his interview, does exactly what Rebecca said she did on hers, and also ends up singing "This Old Man."
3. Complete this jingle from "Do Not Forsake Me, O' My Postman: "Tune-ups, tune-ups, that's our game..."?

Answer: F-R-E-D-S

Rebecca hired Sy Flembeck (played by John Mahoney) to write a jingle for Cheers to help business. He plays the jingle for Fred's Tune-Ups. Frasier then points out that the tune is "Old MacDonald's Farm."

While the lyrics to "Fred's Tune-Ups" were written by Ken Levine and David Isaacs, the music from "Old MacDonald" was most likely written by Thomas d'Urfey in 1706.
4. When Sy Flembeck does the "Cheers Jingle" and Rebecca complains about the "Old MacDonald" tune, what tune does he play for it next?

Answer: Mary Had a Little Lamb

Ken Levine and David Isaacs wrote the words to the "Cheers Jingle." The music for "Mary Had a Little Lamb" was written by Lowell Mason.

These are the words to the "Cheers Jingle":
"Beer and pretzels that our game. C-H-E-R-S
If you don't come here, that's a shame. C-H-E-R-S"

Note: That's not a typo; it was how Sy spelled Cheers when he sang the jingle.
5. What song did Loretta sing for Seraphina and Pat's first dance in "Loathe and Marriage"?

Answer: The Windmills of Your Mind

Michel Legrand wrote the music for "The Windmills of Your Mind," and Alan and Marilyn Bergman wrote the English lyrics. Noel Harrison (son of Rex Harrison) recorded the song in 1968.

Loretta is dressed like a pirate, complete with a parrot on her shoulder, as she sings the song. Nick and Carla watch the married couple dance. Nick tells Carla, "Look at our kid out there, pregnant and married to a retired cop; we must have done something right."
6. Sam hires an Irish band for St. Patrick's Day in "Bar Wars VII: The Naked Prey". What song with the opening words, "They broke into my Dublin home" do they sing?

Answer: Limey Scum

"Limey Scum" was performed on the show by Maurice Roeves and His Irish Band. As far as I can tell, it was written for the show.

Sam hired an Irish band to help create a more Irish mood for ST. Patrick's Day, so Cheers could make more money than Gary's Olde Town Tavern.
7. What does the Irish band leader say right after they sing the song "Everywhere I Looked, Was Death, Death, Death"?

Answer: And now for a sad song.

The band starts singing, "'Twas a baby's crib that floated..." Sam cuts them off and tells them to take their money and leave. This song appears to only exist in the "Cheers" world and is not an actual song. Ken Levine most likely wrote it as he said he used to sing the line randomly and often at inappropriate times.
8. What song do Sam, Cliff, Norm, Woody, and Paul perform naked at Gary's Olde Town Tavern after they lose the St. Patrick's Day bar bet?

Answer: Getting to Know You

"Getting to Know You" was written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II for the Broadway musical "The King and I," which opened on March 29, 1951. The movie version came out in 1956.

Sam told Gary he was going to get him back. He then told the guys he was calling in Harry the Hat (played by Harry Anderson).
9. What song made famous by Nat King Cole does Paul sing the next day after sleeping with Carla?

Answer: Mona Lisa

"Mona Lisa" was written by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston in 1949 for the movie "Captain Carey, U.S.A". Nat King Cole recorded the song in 1950.

Carla is trying to figure out who from the bar she slept with. She figures out it wasn't Norm because "even drunk I'd remember that," and it wasn't Frasier because Lilith "rescued him from accidental drowning in the toilet last night." Woody spent most of the night with Phil. Cliff was with Norm getting their buns tattooed. But then Paul says, "hey sexy" to Carla and then sings "Mona Lisa." Carla screams.
10. What song does the baritone sing at Mr. Gaines that Rebecca starts singing along with?

Answer: Kindertotenlieder (Songs on the Death of Children)

"Kindertotenlieder" was composed by Gustav Mahler. The words were composed by Friederich Ruckert. It is actually a song cycle, not a single song. It is about twenty-five minutes long.

In the episode of "Cheers," Calvin Remsberg sings it as he plays the baritone. Rebecca is drunk and starts singing with him, eventually getting kicked out.
