Bill Haley and His Comets was formed in 1952 and continued performing up to the death of Bill Haley in 1981. The band was originally called The Saddlemen, playing country and western music but Haley wanted to incorporate a rhythm and blues sound into their repertoire so changed the name in 1952 to create an early sound of rock and roll. One of their most famous songs was "Rock Around the Clock" released in 1954 as a b-side.
The song featured in the soundtrack to the 1955 film "The Blackboard Jungle".
