Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "crawling up my wall"

Answer: Boris the Spider

"Boris the Spider" is a rock song by the English band The Who. It came out in 1966 on their second album, "A Quick One". This was the first song that the band's bass player, John Entwistle, ever wrote.
Entwistle wrote the song in just six minutes. Before writing it, he spent the evening drinking with Bill Wyman, the bass player for The Rolling Stones. They started making up funny names for animals, and Entwistle thought of "Boris". Entwistle was actually afraid of spiders as a child. He wrote the song as a joke to handle his fear.
2. "dropped on to the floor"

Answer: Boris the Spider

The song is simple. A person sees a spider crawling up a wall. The spider climbs to the ceiling and then drops down to the floor. At the end of the song, the narrator finds what he thinks is a dead Boris and just to make sure, picks up a book and squishes the spider.
3. "creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly"

Answer: Boris the Spider

The music is distinctive because of how Entwistle sings. He sings the chorus in a very deep, gravelly voice, like he was trying to sound like a creepy monster. This low style of singing was fairly unusual for rock music at the time, but really puts one in mind of things more operatic. The song also has a heavy, spooky bass line.
4. "embedded in the ground"

Answer: Boris the Spider

"Boris the Spider" was a huge favorite for fans at concerts. In fact, it became the band's most requested live song. Even though it was incredibly popular, the band never released it as a single in the United States or the United Kingdom.
5. "he's as scared as me"

Answer: Boris the Spider

"Boris the Spider" by The Who

Verse:
"Look, he's crawling up my wall
Black and hairy, very small
Now he's up above my head
Hanging by a little thread

Chorus:
Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Verse:
Now he's dropped on to the floor
Heading for the bedroom door
Maybe he's as scared as me
Where's he gone now, I can't see

Chorus:
Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Bridge:
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

Verse:
There he is wrapped in a ball
Doesn't seem to move at all
Perhaps he's dead, I'll just make sure
Pick this book up off the floor

Chorus:
Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Bridge:
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

Verse:
He's come to a sticky end (creepy, crawly)
Don't think he will ever mend (creepy, crawly)
Never more will he crawl 'round (creepy, crawly)
He's embedded in the ground (creepy, crawly)

Chorus:
Boris the spider
Boris the spider"
6. "I am the one hiding under your bed"

Answer: This is Halloween

"This Is Halloween" is the opening song from the 1993 animated movie "The Nightmare Before Christmas". It was written and composed by Danny Elfman of Oingo Boingo fame.
Elfman wanted the song to sound very old, so he tried to make it sound like a piece of music written 50 or 100 years earlier. He drew inspiration from classic theater composers and old-fashioned big band jazz music. The song introduces the audience to the spooky setting of Halloween Town and its strange, creepy residents. While the song is excellent, it is infinitely better when seen alongside the animation from the movie.
7. "waiting for the next surprise"

Answer: This is Halloween

Unlike "Boris" this song does not have a single main singer. Instead, it is performed by a large group of monsters, ghosts, and witches who live in the town. Each character sings a few lines to describe how they like to scare people on Halloween night. The musical number builds to the entrance of the main character, Jack Skellington. The stick-figure lord of misrule of Halloween Town.
8. "hiding in the trash cans"

Answer: This is Halloween

Musically, the song uses a lot of instruments like pianos, xylophones, violins, and loud brass horns. The music sounds so creepy because it uses short, choppy, staccato notes that really adds pressure to the singing from the main characters. The song also repeats a falling three-note melody during the chorus to keep the tune stuck in your head as well as any Andrew Lloyd Weber tune would be.

The rhythm has a heavy beat that makes it sound like a diabolical marching band.
9. "here in a flash and gone without a trace"

Answer: This is Halloween

This song could be in the running for an actual Halloween standard, EXCEPT that it really has nothing to do with Halloween other than it introduces creepy characters. It did become a fairly popular song, with the original song peaking on the Billboard charts at number 26. Bands like Marilyn Manson and Panic! at the Disco have also recorded their own popular cover versions of the track.
10. "everyone′s waitin′ for the next surprise"

Answer: This is Halloween

"This Is Halloween" by The Citizens of Halloween

"Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn′t you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween
chorus
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night
verse
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat 'til the neighbors gonna die of fright
It′s our town, everybody scream
In this town of Halloween
I am the one hiding under your bed
Teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red
I am the one hiding under your stairs
Fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair
chorus
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween
verse
In this town, we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
In this town, don't we love it now?
Everybody's waiting for the next surprise
′Round that corner man, hiding in the trash cans
Something′s waiting for the pounce and how you'll
Scream!
This is Halloween
Red and black, and slimy green
Aren′t you scared? Well, that's just fine
Say it once, say it twice
Take a chance and roll a dice
Ride with the moon in the dead of night
Everybody scream, everybody scream
In our town of Halloween
I am the clown with the tear away face
Here in a flash and gone without a trace
I am the "Who" when you call, "Who′s there?"
I am the wind blowing through your hair
I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright
chorus
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween
Halloween, Halloween
verse
Tender lumplings everywhere
Life's no fun without a good scare
That′s our job, but we're not mean
In our town of Halloween
In this town, don't we love it now?
Everyone′s waitin′ for the next surprise
Skeleton Jack might catch you in the back
And scream like a banshee
Make you jump out of your skin
This is Halloween, everybody scream
Won't you please make way for a very special guy
Our man Jack is King of the pumpkin patch
Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King now
chorus
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween
outro
In this town, we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
La, la, la, la-la-la, la, la, la-la-la, la, la, la-la-la, la-la-la"
