Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Disciple who was indignant a woman used expensive perfume to anoint Christ's feet (John 12:4)

Answer: Judas Iscariot

Scripture tells of Judas Iscariot being indignant when Mary of Bethany anointed Christ's feet with expensive perfume, as per John 12:1-7.

The passage goes on to state Judas argued the perfume should've been sold to provide for the needs of the impoverished. John, the writer of the Gospel, states Judas didn't care about the poor but only wanted to get his hands on the proceeds from the sale of the perfume.

Verse 6 in the NKJV explains things this way: "This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it."
2. One of three of the original twelve disciples with a Greek name

Answer: Philip

Three of the original twelve disciples had Greek names. They were Philip, Peter and Andrew. The three men lived in Bethsaida, a fishing community on the sea of Galilee, before becoming disciples of Christ.
3. Only one of original twelve disciples at crucifixion site

Answer: John

Going strictly by Scripture, John. was the only one of the original twelve disciples who was at the Christ's crucifixion site.

Because of John's presence at the cross, Jesus asked him to take care of His mother Mary.

While John was the only disciple at Golgotha, Scripture indicates a number of women, including Christ's mother Mary and Mary Magdalene, were there.
4. A follower of John the Baptist before becoming one of the original twelve disciples (John 1:40)

Answer: Andrew

Andrew, the brother of Peter, was a follower of John the Baptist before he became one of the original twelve disciples.

According to Scripture, Andrew waasted little time in leading Peter to Christ.

John 1:40-42 in the NKJV states: "One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, 'We have found the Messiah' (which is translated, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus."
5. Disciple who cut off Malchus' ear (John 18:10)

Answer: Peter

Peter, one of the original twelve disciples, drew a sword and sliced the ear of Malchus, a servant of the high priest, during the arrest of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The arrest of Jesus is recorded in all four Gospels.

Scripture tells of Jesus miraculously healing Malchus' ear and pointing out non-violence as the path to follow and submission to God's will.

For details, see Matthew 26:47-51, Mark 14:43-47, Luke 22:47-50 and John 18:10-11.
6. Fallen city in which smoke will rise up "forever and ever"

Answer: Babylon

Babylon is the fallen city in which smoke will rise up "forever and forever", as per Revelation 19:3.

The Book of Revelation has perplexed and confounded readers since it was written almost 2,000 years ago.

However, a country pastor once put everything in perspective in a message I heard many years ago. The pastor said Revelation is basically a tale to two cities -- the New Jerusalem and Babylon.

While the New Jerusalem has a glorious future, Babylon faces a disastrous, blood curdling future.
7. Canaanite town where Joshua and the Israelites suffered a stinging defeat (Joshua 7:1-5)

Answer: Ai

Joshua and the Israelites suffered a stinging military defeat when they attempted to conquer Ai, a city in the Promised Land. The defeat came on the heels of the Israelites scoring a spectacular military victory in Jericho.

Later it was revealed the defeat was divine punishment because Achan had stolen accursed items when the Israelites conquered Jericho.

Achan would be put to death for his crime and the Israelites would successfully conquer Ai on their second attempt.
8. City where believers first called Christians (Acts 11:26)

Answer: Antioch

Believers in a resurrected Jesus Christ were first called Christians in Antioch, a city in Syria, according to Acts 11:26.

It is believed by many historians the term 'Christian' was derogatory and not met as a compliment. Derogatory or not, the label stuck and billions of people around the world now identify themselves as Christian.

According to various Websites, more than 2.4 billion people in 2025 identified as being Christian.
9. Town where Jesus performed His first miracle (John 2:1-11)

Answer: Cana

The first miracle by Jesus was in Cana when He turned water into high-quality wine at a wedding banquet. Details of the miracle can be found in John 2:1-11.

Cana was a village in Galilee, about 10 kilometres (approximately six miles) from Nazareth.
10. Man who hid 100 prophets in caves to prevent them from being killed (1 Kings 18:4)

Answer: Obadiah

According to Scripture, Obadiah put 100 prophets of God in two caves to hide them from King Ahab and his evil wife Jezebel. The royal couple was committed to killing all the prophets as they were fervent worshippers of Baal.

On top of hiding the prophets, Obadiah made sure they were supplied with food and water.

Ironically, Obadiah was chief of staff for Ahab.
