Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First born son of Joseph and Asenath (Genesis 41:52)

Answer: Manasseh

Joseph and his Egyptian wife Asenath were the parents of two boys.

The first-born son was Manasseh followed by Ephraim. The two sons became patriarchs of two of the twelve tribes of Israel.
2. Touched the Ark of the Covenant and instantly died (2 Samuel 6:1-7)

Answer: Uzzah

Uzzah was struck dead instantly when he touched the Ark of the Covenant to steady it when oxen stumbled during transport of the sacred item to Jerusalem, as per 2 Samuel 6 and 1 Chronicles 13.

Touching the the Ark of the Covenant was in direct contravention of God's instructions for the handling of such an item.

Uzzah was the son of Abinadab. In some Bible versions, Uzzah is known as Uzza.

An overview provided by AI states "the incident occurred because the Ark was not being transported properly. God instructed that it be carried by Levites using poles, not on a cart (Numbers 4:15, 1 Chronicles 15:15)."
3. King whose reign abruptly ended when he saw 'the writing on the wall' (Daniel 5)

Answer: Belshazzar

The common expression 'see the writing on the wall' is based on Belshazzar, king of Babylon, seeing a disembodied hand write a message on a palace wall during a gala banquet. Scripture tells of Belshazzar and his guests drinking from sacred vessels stolen from the Temple in Jerusalem at the time.

However, no one could interpret what the miraculous message on the wall stated until Daniel was brought in to take a look.

Daniel did not pull any punches in his interpretation, telling the king his empire was coming to an abrupt end.

Later that evening, Belshazzar was killed and his empire taken over by Darius the Mede.

See Daniel 5 for details.
4. Wife of Lamech, third woman mentioned in the Bible (Genesis 4:19)

Answer: Zillah

After Eve and Adah, Zillah is the third woman mentioned in the Bible. Zillah also has the distinction of being the first person in the Bible to have a double-letter name.

According to Genesis 4:19, she was married to Lamech who was also married to Adah. Zillah and Adah were part of the first polygamous marriage mentioned in Scripture.

Zillah was the mother of one son and one daughter. Their names were Tubal-Cain, "an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron" and Naamah.
5. Opponent of Nehemiah and building of wall at Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2:10)

Answer: Sanballat

Scripture tells of the Israelites returning to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall around that city after being in exile in Babylon.

Sanballat was vehemently opposed to the rebuilding of the wall and strongly supporting him were allies Tobiah and Geshem.

Despite vociferous opposition, the Jews were successful in rebuilding the wall around their beloved city.
6. Deity known as "the ruler of of demons" (Matthew 12:24)

Answer: Beelzebub

Beelzebub is the correct answer, as per Matthew 12:24 in the New Testament. However, using the NKJV, the name appears in the Old Testament as Baal-Zebub, as per 2 Kings 1:2, 1:6 and 1:16.

In the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, the Pharisees accuse Jesus of performing His miracles through the power of Beelzebub. However, Jesus pointed out to the Pharisees he was not using Beelzebub as it would not make sense for Satan to cast out his own demons. The Pharisees did not have a come back line.
7. Heard a donkey speak to him (Numbers 22:22-28)

Answer: Balaam

One of the more bizarre stories in the Old Testament is the account of Balaam who was spoken to by a donkey. Scripture tells of the donkey speaking to Balaam after its mouth was opened by the LORD, as per Numbers 22.

Balaam started beating the helpless animal after it refused to proceed down a road when it saw an angel of the LORD standing in its pathway with a sword drawn. However, Balaam could not see the angel with the sword and beat the helpless animal for refusing to proceed.

After the donkey spoke to him, the angel was revealed to Balaam.

In 2 Peter 2:15, Balaam is portrayed as a corrupt prophet who "loved the wages of unrighteousness."
8. Little known husband of Israel's only female judge. (Spelling is per the NIV)

Answer: Lappidoth

Lappidoth, known as Lapidoth with one 'p' in the NKJV, is the correct answer.

Little is known about Lappidoth as he is mentioned in passing reference.

However, his wife Deborah is front and centre in the Old Testament Book of Judges.

Deborah was Israel's only female judge and it was under her rule that Israel experienced a spectacular military victory over Sisera and the Canaanites and enjoyed forty years of peace.

For details see Judges 4 and 5.
9. Member of early church cited by Paul in Romans 16

Answer: Narcissus

In Romans 16, Paul extends greetings to a number of people, including Narcissus.

Little is known about Narcissus as he is mentioned in passing reference. However, it appears his entire household were believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Romans 16:11, Paul writes in the NKJV: "Greet those who are of the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord."

In order of appearance, Romans is the first of thirteen books Paul is credited with writing in the New Testament.
10. Old Testament name Christians attribute to Jesus Christ (Isaiah 7:14)

Answer: Immanuel

According to Isaiah 7:14, Immanuel, which means 'God with us', would be born to a virgin. Christians believe this is direct reference to Jesus Christ, who was born to Mary, even though she was a virgin.

According to Matthew 1L22-23, Jesus' birth was fulfillment of Old Testament Scripture.

In some Bible versions, the name Immanuel appears as Emmanuel.
