Many people can make simple lifestyle changes that could dramatically help their kidney's function. The National Kidney Foundation offered a list of changes to increase overall health.

First on the list was avoiding over-the-counter drugs such as NSAIDs. While these may relieve temporary , they cause damage, especially with overexposure, to the kidneys. Blood pressure is another key element to keep under control. One of the best ways to do this is to lead an active lifestyle and increase to maintain a healthy weight and lower levels. Smoking will affect the lungs and this will often lead to higher levels of in the urine. It's also vital to get enough sleep to reset the body's clock and allow the kidneys time to recover each night.

Diets that are high in can lead to higher blood pressure levels which stress the heart and other vital organs. It is recommended that following a natural diet, with vegetables, whole grains, and nutrients, would contain less fat, additives, and added sugar and also increase the amount of and vitamins. Some foods, like red meat and sugar, can be beneficial at normal levels but can be abused and the kidneys. Too much sugar can lead to diabetes, one of the biggest contributors to kidney failure. Protein alternatives like chicken, low-fat dairy, and fish are safer alternatives to red meat.

The kidney's primary function is to the blood and remove waste. So it's most important to water intake. Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

In 2025, it is estimated that over 35 million Americans are dealing with Chronic Kidney Disease, this is 14% of the population and it is believed that 90% of these people have no clue their kidneys are damaged. Kidney damage can lead to kidney dialysis, uncontrolled diabetes, heart failure, the need for a kidney transplant, or even an early death. No one wants to experience these painful events so the National Kidney Foundation offered sound advice to protect the kidneys. Of course, with all of their recommendations, it is advised to see your doctor for the best treatment plan for your individual situation.

Leading a healthy lifestyle is recommended and getting sufficient sleep (over seven to nine hours a day) on a regular sleep-wake cycle will contribute to a overall healthier body. Many obvious bad habits will result in kidney damage. Excessive alcohol use, over seven drinks a week for females or over fourteen drinks for males, will stress the liver, dehydrate the kidneys, and raise the blood pressure. Smoking cigarettes will stress the lungs and heart. The human body is a complex system where other organs will overcompensate when one organ is overwhelmed. Often times, the kidneys are damaged when these organs begin to fail.

An overly dramatic change in eating habits isn't required but it is advised to add more fruits, vegetables, and lower excessive sugar and fat proteins in our diet. These work better for the body in two ways. Positively, we are adding more useful nutrients, vitamins, and fiber that all clean the blood and maximize the circulatory system. In addition, they don't add cardiac clogging elements like too much fat or cholesterol that can block blood flow. It is also recommended to lower the levels of sodium and highly processed food and replace salt with safer herbs and spices to enhance the flavor of our favorite foods. Too much sugar can lead to diabetes and this is a leading cause of kidney failure.

In addition to things we should avoid The National Kidney Foundation estimated that those with kidney damage who begin to exercise regularly, four or more times a week, will have a 50% less likelihood of early death. So, keep your body active and the number one recommendation is to increase water intake to flush our kidneys regularly. They recommend a minimum of 64 ounces (8 glasses) of water daily.
