Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

American bobsledder Elana Taylor won an individual gold in Women's Monobob. Monobob was introduced at the 2022 Olympics and is a single-person bobsleigh event. In monobob, the athlete has to push, drive, and brake, tasks performed by separate persons in traditional bobsleigh events. Taylor's first Olympic appearance was in 2010, and she made every U.S. team through 2026.

Skier Mikaela Shiffrin won an individual gold medal in Slalom. 2026 was her fourth Olympics, competing in every winter game starting in 2014. The 2026 gold was her fourth Olympic medal, having won gold in Slalom in 2014, gold in Giant Slalom and silver in Combined in 2018.

Figure skater Alysa Liu won an individual gold medal in Women's Singles and shared the gold for the Team Event. At the age of 17, Liu "retired" from competitive skating after the 2022 Olympics. She returned in 2025, winning a title at the World Championships. At the 2026 Olympics she became the first U.S. woman to win an individual Olympic skating medal since 2006, and the first U.S. gold medal skater since 2002.

Freestyle skier Alex Ferreira won an individual gold medal in Halfpipe. Halfpipe is recognized as one of the more dangerous skiing events, with competitors performing a series of tricks as they ski down, and fly above, the half-round "pipe" packed with snow.

Freestyle skier Elizabeth Lemley won an individual gold medal in Moguls, and a bronze medal in Dual Moguls. Lemley was 20 for this, her first Olympic appearance. She debuted at the World Cup at the age of 15 in 2021, one of the youngest in that competition.

Speed skater Jordan Stolz won two gold medals, in 500 and 1000 meters, and a silver medal in 1500 meter. Stolz set Olympic records in his two gold medal events. His performance was the second best for an Olympic speed skater to date, surpassed only by Eric Heiden winning five gold medals in the 1980 Olympics.

Hilary Knight, a five-time Olympian, captained the U.S. women's hockey team that won the gold medal at the 2026 Olympics. The U.S. defeated Canada by a score of 2 to 1 to win the gold medal. Knight began playing professional hockey in 2006 and played Forward for the Seattle Torrent team of the Professional Women't Hockey League in their inaugural 2025-26 season, immediately before her Olympic appearance.

Auston Matthews captained the U.S. men's hockey team that won the gold medal at the 2026 Olympics, the first U.S. men's Olympic hockey gold since 1980. Matthews was selected as number one in the 2016 NHL draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team he continued to play with before his 2025 Olympic appearance.

Skier Kaila Kuhn won a team gold medal in the Team Aerials mixed event, her first Olympic medal. She skied for the U.S. in the 2022 Olympics and finished eighth overall.

Alpine skier Breezy Johnson won her first Olympic medal, an individual gold in the Downhill event. Johnson was also on the 2018 U.S. Olympic team and appeared in World Championships in 2017, 2021, 2023, and 2025.
