Rosen hit 37 HR in 1950, and became the first Clevelander to lead the league in that category. He would take home another HR title in 1953, when he hit 43 HR and 145 RBIs, and came within one one-thousandth of a point from winning the Triple Crown. Rosen batted .336, second to Washington's Mickey Vernon's .337 batting average.

Answer: Eddie Taubensee

Taubensee eventually rejoined Cleveland after being bounced around the league. Taubensee was a good left-handed hitter, and a fair defensive receiver. Injuries and frequent team changes probably hurt his career. Lofton on the other hand, stepped into the Cleveland line up and immediately produced. Lofton became a .300 hitter, a gold glove-caliber center fielder, and the premiere base stealing threat in the American League.

Answer: Tris Speaker

Speaker was recognized as the greatest defensive center fielder of his day. He was famous for playing dangerously shallow in center, close to second base. He played for Cleveland from 1916 to 1926.
Larry Doby played for Cleveland in the 1950s and late 1940s.

League Park had a very short right field (290 ft.), and in order to prevent adjacent businesses and cars on Lexington Avenue from being damaged from too many soaring fly balls, a high fence was installed on top of the right field wall. This created a sort of reverse Fenway Park effect.

During the 1920 World Series, which during the brief three-year period from 1919-1921 became a best of 9 series, Coveleski displayed the excellence that would someday lead to his enshrinement in the baseball Hall of Fame. Coveleski started and finished games 1, 4, and 7, allowing only 2 runs to the NL Pennant winners.

The name 'Guardians' comes from the "Guardians of Traffic", which are a series of eight Art Deco sculptures made by a man named Henry Hering. Hearing made them on Cleveland's Hope Memorial Bridge, which is a hop, skip and a jump away from Progressive Field, where the Guardians play their home games.

In their debut season, the Guardians went 92-70, winning the AL Central cleanly. Nobody came within ten games of them, as it was a very down year for the Central in general. The Guardians beat the Rays 2-0 in the short AL Wild Card series before narrowly dropping a Best-of-five to the Yankees 3-2 to end their season.

Answer: Chase DeLautier

DeLautier was drafted sixteenth overall in the 2022 draft. He would progress through the minors quickly, and made his way to the big leagues in October of 2025. DeLautier came onto the scene fairly strong as, one hundred games into his career, he was batting a very respectable .285 with thirteen homers.

The Guardians entered September of that season with just a 68-67 record, a mark that was not close to qualifying for the postseason at the time. Come September, the team came alive and won twenty games to narrowly edge out the struggling Detroit Tigers for the AL Central. This set the record for the greatest comeback to win a division in MLB history, edging out the 1914 Boston Braves who came back from down fifteen whole games.

Unfortunately, Detroit would have the last laugh, as they themselves went on to knock Cleveland out of the postseason in the Wild Card, taking the best-of-three 2-1.

Back in 1994, the home field of the then-Cleveland Indians was Jacobs Field. In 2008, Progressive purchased naming rights to their home field. Despite the team transitioning into becoming the Guardians in 2022, Progressive remained entrenched as the name of the ballpark.
