During her first tumbling pass Shannon took a .3 deduction due to landing short, and not putting her hands down during her double layout. With some small other errors and the score of 9.475, took her out of contention for a medal. She ended up finishing 8th.

Svetlana Khorkina was strong throughout the team competition, along with veteran Roza Galiyeva, but due to younger gymnasts making mistakes, the Russian team earned a respectable 2nd place in the team competition. During the all-around, Svetlana fell on her original skill on uneven bars.

She then successfully completed this element during the uneven bars final, winning the only gold medal for Russia.
