Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Arnos Vale Ground

Answer: Saint Vincent

The Arnos Vale Ground is located on Saint Vincent's southern coast, southeast of the capital city Kingstown. The picturesque ground is bordered to the south by the Caribbean Sea with the island of Bequia viewable in the distance, whilst to the north is the site of the E. T. Joshua Airport from which planes could be seen taking off and landing on a regular basis during play, until its closure in 2017.
2. Bourda

Answer: Guyana

The Bourda ground is located in the Guyanese capital city Georgetown. The stadium opened in 1884 and is somewhat unique for an international cricket venue in that it is situated below sea level and has a moat around it to protect the pitch from flooding.

One of the many memorable performances that have occurred at the ground happened in a 1972 test match between the West Indies and New Zealand. In New Zealand's first innings their opening batsman Glenn Turner scored 259 runs and also shared in a 1st wicket partnership of 387 alongside fellow opener Terry Jarvis, who scored 182.
3. Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium

Answer: Saint Lucia

The ground is located in the community of Gros Islet in the north of the island and was originally called the Beausejour Cricket Ground when it opened in 2002. The venue was renamed the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in 2016 in honour of the Saint Lucian cricketer Daren Sammy, who captained the West Indies to T20 World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016.

In the first ever test match at the ground in 2003, West Indies batsman Brian Lara scored 209 runs in an innings against Sri Lanka. The stadium also became the first ground in the Caribbean to stage a floodlit One Day International when the West Indies hosted Zimbabwe in 2006.
4. Kensington Oval

Answer: Barbados

The Kensington Oval is located in Bridgetown, the capital city of Barbados. The first test match at the ground took place between the West Indies and England in January, 1930 and ended in a draw. Between test match defeats to England in 1935 and 1994, the West Indies had an unbeaten run of 27 test matches at the ground, this included a streak of 12 consecutive test victories between 1978 and 1993.

In 1958, Pakistan opening batsman Hanif Mohammad became the first player to score a triple century at the ground when he made 337. The first West Indian player to achieve this landmark at the ground was Lawrence Rowe when he scored 302 against England in 1974.

In preparation for the 2007 Men's Cricket World Cup the original ground was completely demolished with a brand new pavilion, media centre and stands built as part of the redevelopment. The new stadium has a capacity of around 30,000 and hosted the final of the 2007 tournament, which was won by Australia. The venue subsequently went on to host the finals of the Men's T20 World Cups in 2010 and 2024 won by England and India respectively.
5. Providence Stadium

Answer: Guyana

The ground is located in the community of Providence just south of Georgetown. The stadium was built in preparation for the 2007 Cricket World Cup and upon completion replaced Bourda as the premier cricket stadium in Guyana. The first international match to take place at the stadium was a One Day International in the 2007 World Cup between Sri Lanka and South Africa. In the match, Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga took 4 wickets in 4 consecutive balls, but despite this rare achievement he still ended on the losing side as South Africa won the match by 1 wicket.

The first test match at the ground was in 2008 between the West Indies and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene and his team-mate Malinda Warnapura both scored centuries as their side won the match by 121 runs.

The Indian opening batsman Sunil Gavaskar has also scored 4 test centuries at the ground with a top score of 220 in 1971.

The ground has also seen some impressive individual test match performances by bowlers as well. West Indian fast bowler Curtly Ambrose has taken 66 test wickets at the ground which has included taking 5 wickets in an innings six times and on one occasion 11 wickets in a match against England in 1994, whilst fellow fast bowlers, Tony Greig, playing for England and Makhaya Ntini for South Africa have both taken 13 wickets in a match, in 1974 and 2005 respectively. In 1958, West Indies batsman Garfield Sobers scored 365 not out in a test match versus Pakistan, in doing so he set a new world record for the highest ever test innings score beating the previous record of 364 scored by England's Len Hutton at The Oval in London against Australia in 1938. This record stood for 36 years until fellow West Indian Brian Lara scored 375 against England at the Antigua Recreation Ground in 1994.
