2.1 "A Taste of Solitude" Trivia Quiz

Answer: Padan Fain

Padan Fain, excellently portrayed by Johann Myers, was the peddler who visited the Two Rivers for many years, drawn by the Ta'veren youths there (Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, and Nynaeve) as focal points in the Pattern. Fain was the one that brought the Trollocs to the village at the beginning and followed along in the background throughout the first season.

The Darkfriends that met together were all shrouded in cloaks to hide their identities from one another, with only the Forsaken Ishamael knowing who they all were. However, small clues reveal the origins of some members, as an Aes Sedai ring is seen, along with clothing indicating someone from Shienar, a Tinker, and a Whitecloak, along with a few others remaining unknown.

The other name options were all Darkfriends revealed in the "Wheel of Time" books.

Answer: Verin and Adeleas

After the events of the first season, Moiraine and Lan visit two Brown sisters (the Brown Ajah are the scholars of the White Tower) as they try to figure out their next steps. Unfortunately, with Moiraine cut off from the One Power, she is also at odds with her Warder, Lan. In spite of his desire to continue in his service (even though their Bond is also affected by Moiraine's issue), she pushes him away.

The two Brown sisters - Verin and Adeleas - give advice to both parties, but tensions are still high between Moiraine and Lan.

Moiraine is played by Rosamund Pike, while Lan is portrayed by Daniel Henney. The two Browns are Meera Syal (Verin) and Nila Aalia (Adeleas).

Answer: Illian

The banter between Bayle Domon (Julian Lewis Jones) is of two people familiar with each other, but it is obvious that Domon is trying to make a profit, trying to sell her a piece of broken heartstone (Cuendillar), found in Cairhien. The only other time we have seen such a thing was at the end of the first season, when Rand inadvertently released the Forsaken Ishamael (Fares Fares) from his prison.

But Moiraine is more interested in the poem that Domon found written at the site, which revealed the identity of the newly released Forsaken.

Answer: Nynaeve

Over the course of the first season of "The Wheel of Time," we saw a couple of instances where both Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) and Egwene (Madeleine Madden) channel the One Power, but it is Nynaeve who impresses with the sheer strength of what she can do. Yet, in spite of that strength, Nynaeve's ability to channel only comes in times of great emotional distress, or when she is angry.

In this episode, as Alanna Sedai (Priyanka Bose) gives a lesson to a group of Novices in the Tower kitchens, Nynaeve is unable to channel to complete her task of purifying a glass of dirty water and ends up drinking the icky concoction as an act of defiance.

Answer: The Horn of Valere

The Horn of Valere, said in the mythos of the world of "The Wheel of Time" to be able to bring back the Heroes of the Ages, was kept hidden by the ruling family of Fal Dara. When the Trolloc's threatened to overwhelm Tarwin's Gap, the Horn was unearthed, with the anticipation of being used in what they thought might be the Last Battle.

Instead, treachery allowed the fortress at Fal Dara to be breached by Padan Fain and two Myrddraal, and they killed and wounded a number of people in the process of stealing the Horn. Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) was unable to stop him, and felt motivated to stay with the Shienarans as they began the quest to retrieve the Horn.

Loial is portrayed by Hammed Animashaun.

Answer: Liandrin Guirale

Compared to the novels, Liandrin Guirale Aes Sedai (portrayed by Kate Fleetwood) takes on an expanded role and is fleshed out more as a character. She is seen in the series taking an active interest in Nynaeve's training, and in "A Taste of Solitude" drives Nynaeve to use her abilities in a rather unorthodox manner.

When Nynaeve sees Liandrin sneak out of the White Tower by a secret tunnel, she follows and witnesses Liandrin visiting an old, dying man... evidently her son. This really strikes home to Nynaeve exactly how long-lived Aes Sedai are, despite how young many of them may seem. The scene also gives some insight into Liandrin's underlying motivations for how driven she is.

Answer: Bel Tine

Just as in the first episode of the first season, the Two Rivers folk take time to celebrate the lives of their loved ones, those that they have lost, and those of previous generations. And believing Rand to have been killed at the Eye of the World, they include a prayer for him as they light the traditional lanterns for Bel Tine.

Answer: Liandrin Guirale

In the penultimate episode of the first season, Mat left the rest of the group when they traveled through the Ways. After reaching Fal Dara, Moiraine sent a message to the Red Ajah in the White Tower, suggesting that someone should track him down, for his own good. When Mat chose not to follow the group, Moiraine was worried that perhaps he had not fully recovered from his Healing from the effects of the Shadar Logoth dagger... and perhaps there were still ill effects?

Liandrin mentions such to Mat in her conversation with him, but it seems obvious that she has other motivations concerning him. In the many months that Mat has been sequestered in the White Tower, Liandrin made no mention of the fact that Nynaeve and Egwene were also there, undergoing training.

Matrim Cauthon, originally portrayed by Barney Harris in season one, was replaced by Dónal Finn for the second season.

Answer: Cut his hair

Knowing that he will be the target of Darkfriends and Shadowspawn, Rand makes the effort to hide his familiar red hair by cutting it close to the scalp. In this first episode, we only see him briefly as he steps out of the darkness in an unknown city and lights a lantern for Bel Tine.

Answer: Four Myrddraal

Currently without the ability to channel the One Power, Moiraine has shoved Lan away from her. Thus when she decides to leave in the middle of the night, she is unprotected when three Myrddraal attack her from out of the shadows. She manages to briefly hold her own, killing one of the Fades, but is injured by another before Lan arrives.

Lan joins the fray and beheads one Fade before having to duel the remaining two at the same time. Despite his skill, the two Myrddraal overwhelm him, and only the arrival of Verin Sedai and her Warder Tomas (Heikko Deutschmann) saves them from death.
