Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Astro Boy

The title character "Astro Boy" is a robot made by Dr. Boynton to resemble his son, who died in a car crash. The original manga is set in 2003, and a remake was made in this year.
2. Dragon Ball Z

A sequel to the 1986-89 "Dragon Ball" series, "Dragon Ball Z" is the best-known of the franchise. It is about Son Goku defending Planet Earth against aliens, androids and other creatures.
3. Sailor Moon

"Sailor Moon" is about a schoolgirl who uses a magic brooch to transform into a soldier (called Sailor Moon) trying to save Planet Earth from evil. Along the way she meets other celestial-named soldiers such as Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars.
4. Pokémon

Perhaps the best-known anime of all time, "Pokémon" is an abbreviation of "Pocket Monsters", which is a good description of what Pokémon Trainers use to battle each other.

It is a rare case of an anime not based on a manga (visual book), but on a video game series - the franchise began with "Red" and "Blue" (known as "Green" in Japan) in 1996.
5. Naruto

The title character in "Naruto" is a pre-teen (later a teen) ninja who chases the dream of being a Hokage (village leader). The franchise continues with "Boruto", which is about Naruto's son.
6. Yu-Gi-Oh! GX

Like Pokémon, "Yu-Gi-Oh!" is a franchise with a trading card element: in the game "Duel Monsters", players use monsters, spells and traps to reduce their opponent's Life Points to zero.

However, the franchise started with lots of different games - each played by Yugi's alter-ego Yami, who comes out of his Millennium Puzzle. The first manga and the anime series "Yu-Gi-Oh!" (sometimes nicknamed "Season 0") used a range of games, but the anime "Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Monsters" and "GX" onwards are about Duel Monsters only.
7. Code Geass

"Code Geass" is about a supernatural power - Geass - which an immortal woman and human test subject C. C. can give to others, including the main character Lelouch. The later trilogy of films "Initiation", "Transgression" and "Glorification" follow the same basic plot of the anime but were followed by the original film titled "Code Geass Lelouch of the Re;surrection" (and the semi-colon in the middle is not a typo!).
8. Sword Art Online

"Sword Art Online" sees Kirito and Asuna trapped in a virtual reality game; they need to complete 100 Floors and defeat the final boss in order to be freed.
9. Attack on Titan

"Attack on Titan" is about, well, attacks *by* Titans and attacks *on* Titans. In a post-apocalypse, the only humans left live inside a walled city that protects them from giant human-like Titans. Titans destroy the city, but the Survey Corps soldiers - including protagonist Eren - are determined to defeat the Titans.
10. Demon Slayer

In "Demon Slayer", Tanjiro tries to save humanity after his family were killed and his younger sister was turned into a demon.

The 2020 movie, "Infinity Train", became the highest-grossing anime film of all time, despite being released in the COVID-19 pandemic. It was even the highest-grossing film, worldwide, in 2020 - the first time a film outside of Hollywood reached that acclaim.
