Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This not-so-proper young lady has spent a lot of time with a printer's apprentice.

Answer: Eloise Bridgerton

Eloise (Claudia Jessie), the fifth Bridgerton child and second daughter, never fit easily into the ton. In the second season, she debuted to society, but preferred to chase after Lady Whistledown's true identity instead of dancing with eligible gentlemen or conversing about embroidery with the other ladies.

Her inquiries led her to a most improper friendship with Theo Sharpe (Calam Lynch) -- until Lady Whistledown blew the whistle, exposing Eloise to public humiliation but saving her from the Queen's suspicions that she might be the notorious gossipmonger.
2. This young lady was all set to elope with a charming young man -- until Lady Whistledown revealed she was already carrying someone else's child.

Answer: Marina Thompson

Marina (Ruby Barker) was in a difficult situation. She'd grown up in the countryside and fallen desperately in love with George Crane, the younger son of a wealthy family. After their tryst, he left to fight Napoleon in Spain, and she was sent off to her cousins the Featheringtons to debut in London society. She wrote to George many times after realizing she was pregnant, but never received any reply, and eventually bowed to Lady Featherington's arguments that she must marry someone else to protect both herself and the child. She settled on Colin Bridgerton, but fate -- well, Lady Whistledown -- intervened by revealing her secret.

In the end, Marina learned that George had died overseas before he could respond. George's older brother, Sir Philip (Chris Fulton) married her in order to provide legitimacy to his brother's children -- a kind outcome, although not a happy one.
3. This enterprising man owned a gentlemen's club -- which he still tried to maintain after being elevated to the ton!

Answer: Will Mondrich

Mondrich (Martins Imhangbe) was introduced in the first season as a happily married boxer. By the second season, he had retired from the ring, and opened a gentlemen's club that -- while slow to take off -- soon provided the major male characters with a convivial place to discuss the plot.

In the third season, however, he and his wife wound up members of the ton when their small son (very implausibly) inherited a barony from a distant aunt. It was considered disgraceful for someone in that social position to work for a living, and Mondrich spent much of the season reckoning with his family's change in status and the social necessity of selling his club.
4. This mysterious traveler conned the ton with false tales of gemstone mines in America.

Answer: Jack Featherington

"Cousin Jack" (Rupert Young) appeared in the second season as the heir to the Featherington title and estates, following the murder of the previous, dissolute Lord Featherington in Season 1. The widowed Lady Featherington (Polly Walker) and her three unmarried daughters depended on his wealth and charity, and Lady Featherington was horrified to learn that his gemstone mines were unproductive and his flashy jewels were counterfeit. Ultimately, he tricked a number of gentlemen into buying shares in his worthless mines, only to lose his money to Lady Featherington when she realized he planned to cheat her daughters as well as the ton.
5. This lady found her husband in an unusual place: he was the groom that her younger sister left at the altar!

Answer: Kate Sharma

Kate (Simone Ashley) came to London at the beginning of Season 2, comfortable in her status as an old maid and determined to help her half-sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) marry well. Her foundations were shaken by her instant chemistry with Anthony, Viscount Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), who had decided to woo Edwina based on her education and reputation: he believed he wanted a wife that he could respect, but not a wife that he could love. All of Anthony's muddled thinking was interrupted by Edwina, who arrived at their wedding (hosted by the Queen!), realized her groom's feelings for her sister, and marched right out again.

Luckily, after the passage of time and the fright of Kate suffering a serious riding accident, the sisters were reconciled, and Kate and Anthony's wedding was celebrated as a happy event by all.
6. This Duke faked a courtship to avoid the attentions of eager Mamas -- and then it became real.

Answer: Simon Basset

Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), had decided that he would never marry -- but that didn't make him a less eligible bachelor or any less popular in London's busy marriage market. In Season 1, he hit upon a scheme with Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor): they would pretend to be courting, which would make her more appealing to other gentlemen while simultaneously making him appear off the market. Pretense gave rise to real friendship, and then to real feelings -- and, after much drama (including an interrupted duel) Simon and Daphne surrendered to marriage bells.
7. This society lady sought matches for her eight children -- named in alphabetical order.

Answer: Violet Bridgerton

Perhaps this doesn't seem so scandalous, but in both the first episode of the show and the first page of the book ("The Duke and I" by Julia Quinn) that started it all, this was the very first thing that Lady Whistledown wrote about in her scandal sheet. Discussing Violet (Ruth Gemmell) and her late husband Edmund, Lady Whistledown wrote:

"... one can find only banality in their choice of names for their children. Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth - orderliness is, of course, beneficial in all things, but one would think that intelligent parents would be able to keep their children straight without needing to alphabetize their names."

Each season of the show, like each book of the series of novels, focuses on one of the Bridgerton children, and on Violet's efforts to guide them toward a happy marriage like the love match she herself had enjoyed.
8. This well-traveled young man scandalized the ton by offering courtship guidance to young Miss Penelope Featherington.

Answer: Colin Bridgerton

Colin (Luke Newton), the third Bridgerton son, enjoyed several offscreen Grand Tours of Europe in between seasons, providing him excellent conversational fodder for balls. His childhood friendship with his neighbor Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) led him to mentor her in Season 3, in hopes that she could stop being a wallflower and finally land a husband and a little independence.

This very improper arrangement nonetheless led to great happiness, as Colin came to realize that he returned Penelope's longstanding feelings for him.
9. This young lady boldly claimed to be the one and only Lady Whistledown -- but it was a lie.

Answer: Cressida Cowper

Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen) wsd a regular of the ton's balls over several seasons, but she haf failed to find a husband. The problem? First, her petty, cutthroat personality tended to put off suitors as they get to know her. Second, as a major antagonist of the series, she was usually competing directly with the stars of the show, and was thus doomed to failure.

In Season 3, we got a glimpse of the dreary home life and high-pressure parents that shaped Cressida. In an effort to avoid an arranged marriage, Cressida declared herself as Lady Whistledown, hoping that the Queen's hefty reward would allow her to live independently. Unable to back up her claims, however, poor Cressida failed in her efforts, and was shipped off to live with a strict aunt in Wales.
10. This overlooked young lady was secretly Lady Whistledown -- the worst gossipmonger of them all.

Answer: Penelope Featherington

Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), the bookish youngest daughter of the overbearing Featherington family, was introduced in Season 1 as a wallflower debutante, childhood friends with both Colin and Eloise Featherington. Her lack of social success gave her the perfect vantage point from which to observe the ton and collect juicy gossip, which she then set down in an irresistibly witty pamphlet that the ton bought like hotcakes.

The identity of Lady Whistledown, much sought after by Queen Charlotte, was revealed to viewers at the end of Season 1, and to the ton at the end of Season 3.
