Looney Tunes: Hare-less Wolf Trivia Quiz

Directed by Friz Freling and starring Bugs Bunny and a delightfully forgetful (and dumb) wolf, this cartoon is one of my favorites.

Question 2 of 10
2. In the cartoon "Hare-less Wolf", the wolf's wife berates him awhile and then tells him "There's nothin' in the pot for dinner. Now get out there and shoot a rabbit!" He grabs the gun and runs out the door. Thinking he's far enough from the cave, he looks at the camera and says "I hate her". What immediately strikes him on the head? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. In the cartoon "Hare-less Wolf", the wolf charges past Bugs Bunny's hole with his gun. Bugs pops out and asks what he's chasing. The wolf stops and tries to remember what it is he's trying to catch. "A rabbit?" Bugs prompts, to which the wolf shoots at Bugs point blank three times, Bugs skipping out of the way each time. Bugs suggests something might be wrong with the gun and takes it from the wolf. He throws a can in the air, waits for it to get level with the wolf and shoots, blackening the wolf. Finish Bugs Bunny's line: "Nothing wrong with this gun. Must be____." Hint

4. In the "Hare-less Wolf" cartoon, Bugs Bunny takes refuge in his hole, followed by the wolf. He sets a box outside the hole which the wolf opens. "A hand grenade? I'm gonna blow you to um..."
"Kingdom come?" Bugs asks.
"Yeah-YEAH kingdom come." The wolf then begins reading the instructions, pulling the pin and discarding it as instructed. Then (over) he turns the paper over to find a "Warning!" Finish the warning: "It is important to remember that you __________."
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Another much used Looney Tune joke is used in "Hare-less Wolf" with a different effect. The wolf chases Bugs Bunny into a train tunnel, which is immediately filled with light and the sound of a train whistle. Running back out, the wolf turns to see Bugs with a flashlight and train whistle. He turns and chases Bugs back in again. The tunnel is again filled with light, but this time the wolf stands his ground, only to be run over by a train. When a bruised and battered wolf rises from the train tracks, he is in deep thought as he says what? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. In the cartoon "Hare-less Wolf" we see Bugs Bunny lighting a very long fuse. The charging wolf sees it burning and slows to watch it. Seemingly in a trance, the wolf simply follows the fuse over logs, around corners, and finally up into a large keg of TNT, which explodes. What does the blackened wolf say? Hint

10. The final scene in the "Hare-less Wolf" cartoon sees the wolf sitting at the top of the mountain, silhouetted by a full moon, still trying to guess what he came up looking for. One of the funniest jokes in the cartoon is when he names an animal so ridiculous that he chuckles at his own stupidity. What is the animal he names? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scene from "Hare-less Wolf", we see a mailbox in front of a cave with litter strewn around the opening. Inside we find a wolf in complete relaxation, watching the baseball ballgame. But wait. This wolf has a name on the mailbox. What is the wolf's full name?

Answer: Charles M. Wolf

Obviously a reference to fellow Looney Tunes director Charles M. Jones, "Charley" goes from fully relaxed to total terror when his wife begins yelling at him.

Answer: A pot

Charming domestic scene. Apparently he isn't far enough away. Or maybe she knows him better than he thought. Anyway, he charges away looking for a rabbit.
Must be____."

Answer: you

The running joke through this cartoon is that any time the wolf is distracted, he stops and tries to remember what he's chasing. "A squirrel? No. Woodchuck? No." One of the most loveable characters in cartoons, and he only stars once.
4. In the "Hare-less Wolf" cartoon, Bugs Bunny takes refuge in his hole, followed by the wolf. He sets a box outside the hole which the wolf opens. "A hand grenade? I'm gonna blow you to um..." "Kingdom come?" Bugs asks. "Yeah-YEAH kingdom come." The wolf then begins reading the instructions, pulling the pin and discarding it as instructed. Then (over) he turns the paper over to find a "Warning!" Finish the warning: "It is important to remember that you __________."

Answer: have only ten seconds to perform this operation.

But the wolf still has time pull out his watch and check the time before holding the grenade at arms length and grimacing before it goes off. It would seem Bugs Bunny might have dealt with Charles M. Wolf before.

Answer: "Now-now why was I trying to catch a train?"

A very funny scene, played out many times in many different ways in cartoons.
This is the best response to being hit by a train, mostly because of the wolf's personality.

Answer: Nothing. He just stares in disbelief.

A very stunned, stupid look on the wolf's face makes this scene a classic. The scene then changes to the next one, with a more angry wolf in each. But he still can't remember what he's chasing.
7. Bugs Bunny is nailing a door upright onto a board in the cartoon "Hare-less Wolf". Where is the board located?

Answer: Over the edge of a cliff

Bugs Bunny has another trap in store for the wolf. Of course, Bugs doesn't actually instigate any of this. Charles M. Wolf gets himself into these predicaments because of his anger or curiosity. Or stupidity.
8. With the door nailed to a board in "Hare-less Wolf", the wolf runs out and beats on it. "Open up the door or I'll...or I'll...uh, gee what will I do?" What does Bugs Bunny answer?

Answer: "Knock it down?"

"Yeah-YEAH, knock it down!" says the wolf, who proceeds to do just that, going over the cliff as he does.
9. After falling off the cliff in the cartoon "Hare-less Wolf", the wolf is furious, tearing back up the mountain as fast as he can run. He finds Bugs Bunny standing, waiting for him. As he pants heavily on Bugs, what is Bugs' response?

Answer: "Stop breathing on my fur! Now what is it you want?"

"What do I want? Why, I want a...possum? No. Chipmunk? No." Another simple question completely distracts the wolf. But this time Bugs doesn't help the wolf out.

Answer: hippopotamus

"A zebra? No. Orangutan? No. A hippopotamus? Ha ha hee hee no, not a hippopotamus." Classic Looney Tunes ending with Bugs Bunny taking his candle into his hole for the night saying, "Well, goodnight folks, we're running out of time." I wonder what Mrs. Wolf thinks when Charley doesn't come home for the night? Or maybe she wants to get him out of the cave and sends him off on purpose.
