Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

"The Money Song" is one of Monty Python's most popular songs. Its official title is "There is Nothing Quite as Wonderful as Money" but it is usually just referred to as "The Money Song". The song first aired on television as part of the 29th episode (series 3, episode 3) of the television programme, "Monty Python's Flying Circus", on 2 November 1972. It also appeared on their record album "Monty Python's Previous Record," released on 8 December 1972.

In this episode, prior to bursting into the song, Michael Palin waxes lyrical about money:
"The smell of the rain-washed florin!
The lure of the lira!
The glitter and the glory of the guinea!
The romance of the ruble!
The feel of the franc!
The heel of the deutschmark!
The cold antiseptic sting of the Swiss franc!
And the sun burnt splendour of the Australian dollar!"

Money certainly was a lot more interesting when countries had their own unique currencies, such as the French francs, Italian lira and German Deutsche Marks mentioned in the song. With respect to pounds and dollars, there are many countries which use the words pound or dollar to describe their currencies but their values are not tied to the British pound or the US dollar.

Countries in the European Union decided to adopt the euro as a universal currency to make travel and trade easier. The changeover commenced officially on 1 January 1999 with eleven member countries (Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain) adopting the euro initially for electronic transactions and with physical money (coins and notes) introduced in 2002. The euro is divided into 100 euro cents. Most but not all of the EU countries have adopted the euro.
