Gomez just had to pay the fine and Mama could be released in five minutes, but Gomez said that wouldn't give Mama enough time to 'do her famous mess hall scene' because Mama loved prison pictures.

Gomez got his trial. The judge didn't believe Gomez was a lawyer, but the bailiff checked. Morticia didn't think the judge liked them and asked Gomez to just pay the fine, but Gomez refused.

The judge was so not impressed that he not only declared Mama guilty and the whole family declared in contempt of court, that the judge stated he wanted Alcatraz re-opened for the entire family.

But at that moment, the judge's wife came in asking for the verdict to be set aside... The wife was the well-dressed woman who was Mama's client at the beginning of the episode! The one who Mama predicted would end up in jail and who was taken to jail when Mama and Morticia were talking. The judge ended up dismissing the case.
