Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many fingers does Aipom have on its tail?

Answer: Three

In "Pokemon Stadium 2", a number of Aipom's moves involve animations featuring it swing or grip something with its tail. Sadly, Aipom's learnable moveset was quite shallow in the second generation, though it could uniquely use its tail to wield Baton Pass, a lowly-distributed move in general during the second generation. Aipom actually learns Baton Pass via simple level up in these Johto games, in an era where the few who did get the move had to do it through complicated means, like breeding.
2. What type of Pokemon is Sudowoodo?

Answer: Rock

Sudowoodo's very name hints at the trick it tries to play on players in "Gold", "Silver" and "Crystal" and their remakes. Pronounced 'Psuedo-Wood-o', Sudowoodo takes on the appearance of a tree, which might suggest a Grass typing. But it is actually a Rock type.

A classic instance of players discovering this in the aforementioned games is using a Fire type, typically Quilava, to weaken Sudowoodo or take it out entirely thinking it to be weak to Fire. Sudowoodo being resistant and able to slam Quilava back with Rock Throw can greatly surprise newer players.
3. What type of Pokemon is Furret?

Answer: Normal

Furret evolves from Sentret. Sentret can be acquired from the very first patches of grass the player has access to in "Gold", "Silver" and "Crystal", making Furret easily accessible. Having said that, players would need to hunt it during the day if searching for it, as it doesn't appear at night.

Sadly, unless claiming Furret as a personal favorite, it doesn't really do anything special or stand out in a way that makes it particularly appealing for very long. Still, it isn't useless, as it can learn a surprisingly high variety of moves and has a pretty high Speed stat to use them with.
4. Xatu is a dual type Pokemon. What typing does it have?

Answer: Psychic/Flying

Xatu is the ace of Elite Four member Will's team in "Gold", "Silver", "Crystal" and their remakes. Sadly, for the player, using Xatu effectively is an uphill battle in original second generation games. It cannot learn a move capable of dealing significant damage until level 64, when it finally gets access to Psychic. Until then, the best it can do is learning the HM Fly or using Night Shade, possibly the far weaker Psychic type move Confusion in some cases.

As such, attempting to use it in any game where it is not allowed to be or is not yet level 64 is difficult.
5. Girafarig is a Psychic type Pokemon. Is it weak to all types Psychic types are usually weak to?

Answer: No

In generation two, Psychic types were newly made out to be weak to Ghost. They also kept their Bug weakness from generation one and received another new weakness with the advent of the Dark typing. Girafarig is weak to Bug and Dark like other Psychic types. However, it is also a Normal type Pokemon, meaning it is unaffected by the same Ghost moves that send other Psychic types packing.

If struggling with the Ecruteak City Gym leader Morty in "Gold" or "Silver", Girafarig can be caught directly to the south of Ecruteak City. Girafarig has the advantage of hitting all of Morty's Pokemon super effectively while being immune to their strongest attacks in return. Thus, Girafarig is a fantastic counter to the Ecruteak Gym.
6. In the sixth generation, the Fairy typing was introduced. Granbull was the recipient of this typing. Before becoming a Fairy type, what type was Granbull?

Answer: Normal

Granbull's learnable moves and stat build would have made a Fighting or possibly a Dark typing make sense. Nevertheless, it was saddled with the Normal typing. Until generation six, Granbull would have to contend with being weak to Fighting type moves. At least upon gen six, Granbull would now resist these moves and hit Fighting types back with Fairy moves that would be super effective.
7. Sneasel can be found in the Ice Cave of "Crystal", a sensible call as it is an Ice type Pokemon. What is Sneasel's other typing?

Answer: Dark

In "Gold" and "Crystal", Sneasel sadly cannot be caught until reaching nearly Mt. Silver, very, very deep into a playthrough. This was fixed in "Crystal" when it was made available in Ice Cave, an area which is still late in the game but at least usable in the Johto region itself.
8. What Pokemon does Scizor evolve from?

Answer: Scyther

Interestingly, Scizor is not a direct upgrade around the board, stat wise, when evolving from Scyther. It becomes much tankier and hits a little harder, but loses out on significant amounts of Speed compared to Scyther.

For those playing old devices or emulated software harboring a second generation game, getting Scizor can be impossible in some cases. If you only have one Game Boy and do not have a friend with their own copy of a compatible game, you cannot get a Scizor. If you are playing on emulation software which typically can't connect to any game at all, you cannot get Scizor. This is because Scyther must be traded while holding a Metal Coat to evolve, which requires a second piece of hardware be accessible just to initiate the trade.
9. What is Lugia's signature move?

Answer: Aeroblast

Aeroblast is a move with a high base power, but very low eight power points and 95 base accuracy. It does have an increased critical hit rate, which can allow Lugia to just barely get over the hump on a one or two hit KO.

Curiously, Lugia did later become the second (third if you count Smeargle) Pokemon to ever learn Psycho Boost. It gained access to the move in "XD: Gale of Darkness".
10. What does Chikorita evolve into?

Answer: Bayleef

Chikorita makes the evolution at level 16, then from Bayleef into Meganium at level 32. Meganium is the grass type evolutionary line of this generation, filling in the role previously held by the Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur line in generation one.
