Pokemon Gold/ Silver/Crystal Trivia Questions

1. HP: 96 Attack: 65 Defense: 141 Special Attack: 55 Special Defense: 65 Speed: 81 Hint: "Keep in mind that the HP is the naturally highest stat. This means that my Defense stat stands out even more thaN it may seem at first glance. Who am I?"

From Quiz
If These Are My Stats, Which Pokemon Am I? (G/S/C)

Answer: Onix (Lv. 33)

Neither Voltorb or Magnemite could be the correct answers because their Defense is not their best stat. While Geodude's best stat is indeed its Defense, Geoudude's stats aren't as lopsided as Onix's. Geodude's Attack would be much higher, but its Defense and Speed would be lower.

2. If the accuracy of a Pokemon is lowered five stages, how many times should we expect it to hit with a 100% accurate attack such as Flamethrower?

From Quiz In-Game "Pokemon" Generation 2 (G/S/C) [3]

Answer: 3/8 (37.5%)

Both the accuracy and the evasion of a Pokemon are affected by this way (evasion is boosted and accuracy is lowered): 0 = 100% 1 = 75% (3/4) 2 = 60% (3/5) 3 = 50% (3/6 = 1/2) 4 = ~43% (3/7) 5 = 37.5% (3/8) 6 = 33% (3/9 = 1/3) An attack will hit if H > 1 in the following formula: H = Attack's accuracy * Accuracy / Evasion

3. If the attack Belly Drum is used when the user is at below 50% of its maximum HP, how many Attack boosts does it get?

From Quiz In-Game "Pokemon" Generation 2 (G/S/C) [2]

Answer: Two

The often known as "glitch drum", is an in-game bug that causes the Attack stat of the user go up two stages when Belly Drum is used with a Pokemon at below 50% health. If the user is instead at above 50% health, it will maximize its attack stat at the cost of 50% of its maximum HP.

4. What's the name of the wiggly tree Pokémon that blocks the path to Ecruteak City?

From Quiz "Pokémon Silver" for Gameboy Color

Answer: Sudowoodo

Sudowoodo is a Pokémon that can only be caught after using squirt bottle on the wiggly tree located southeast of Ecruteak City. The Pokémon will be level 20.

5. Where is the only place you can catch Lapras?

From Quiz "Pokémon Gold" for Gameboy Color

Answer: Union Cave

Lapras is a Pokémon that will be surfing in a deep and dark area. This Pokémon appears as an icon when surfing. Lapras can only be caught on Friday.

6. How many Pokéballs can Kurt make in a day?

From Quiz "Pokémon Crystal" for Gameboy Color

Answer: Ninety-nine

Kurt could only make one Pokéball a day in "Pokémon Gold/Silver" by using apricorns. There's a new feature added when Kurt is making apricorns in "Pokémon Crystal". The new feature is that Kurt can now use ninety-nine apricorns a day instead of one in order to make ninety-nine Pokéballs.

7. Apart from TM 18, what can you find in the Slowpoke Well?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 6, Beyond the Adventure

Answer: King's Rock

Talk to the guy on the lower floor of the Slowpoke Well and he'll give you the King's Rock. When equipped, your opponent's Pokémon has a small chance of flinching. Also, if you attach it to a Slowpoke or Poliwhirl and trade them, they'll evolve into either Slowking (from Slowpoke) or Politoad (from Poliwhirl).

8. Where can you find a Pineco?

From Quiz 25 for "Gold/Silver"

Answer: In a tree

Pineco live in trees in the "forest" areas, as opposed to the "mountain" areas. They are extremely rare, and you'll have to sift through hordes of Caterpie or Weedle (depending on which version you're playing) and maybe even a few Exeggcute. Once you find one, put it to sleep. It is prone to self-destructing and can be quite fragile when trying to catch.

9. In Lavender Town, the tower that was once used for honoring the dead is now running as what?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 5, The Final Battle

Answer: Radio Tower

The the "Red/Blue/Yellow" versions you could find your ghost Pokémon here. Now in "Gold/Silver" it's a radio tower. There's a new smaller building in the south for honoring the dead.

10. Once you rescue the Director, go back to the main building that Team Rocket has taken over with the Card Key. How will the Card Key help you progress?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 4, Of the Elite

Answer: It will open a locked sliding door

There is a large sliding door on the east (right) side on one of the floors. Fight through a few more Rockets, these ones being the toughest yet, until you get to the final Admin, who will pack up his act and performers once you've beaten him.

11. What will Chuck, the Gym Leader, do just before you battle his two Pokémon?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 3, Raging Rockets

Answer: Lift and throw a rock

When you talk to him, he turns to the right and picks up a rock and throws it. But of coarse, this isn't about physical strength, is it? No, it's about Pokémon. But in this case, your Pokémon are going to need all the physical strength they can get to battle Chuck's Fighting Pokémon.

12. The Charcoal Smith has sent his apprentice to gather wood from Ilex Forest but the apprentice doesn't have the proper badge and the Pokémon he brought with him ran away. What Pokémon do you have to chase back to the apprentice?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 2, The Adventure Continues

Answer: Farfetch'd

You have to circle around behind the Pokémon and scare it. Every time you 'talk' to it, it will run away in the opposite direction. Once it's back with its owner, the Charcoal Smith will be there and he'll give you HM01 (Cut) for your troubles.

13. Who does Professor Elm ask you to retrieve an item from?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 1, The Beginning

Answer: Mr. Pokémon

Mr. Pokémon's house can be found north of Cherrygrove Town on the east side of the route. Professor Oak will also give you a Pokédex here.

14. In both "Silver" and "Gold" versions, what is the name of the city that has a Gym Leader by the name of Morty?

From Quiz Pokemon Silver and Gold

The Gym Leader of Ecruteack City is Morty. He uses Ghost-type Pokemon, specifically Gastly, Haunter and Gengar. If you defeat Morty in battle, you will be awarded with the Fog Badge.

15. What part of the Gameboy do you use for Mystery Gift?

From Quiz Mystery Gifts (Gold and Silver)

Answer: Infrared Communications Port

The Infrared Port is only on the Gameboy Color.

16. What is the name of Blackthorn city's gym leader?

From Quiz Pokemon Gold and Silver

Answer: Clair

Clair is the dragon trainer and she trains in Dragon's Den.

17. HP: 183 Attack: 30 Defense: 30 Special Attack: 45 Special Defense: 80 Speed: 53 Hint: "Under totally unfavourable conditions my Attack and Defense stats at this level could be as low as just 7! Who am I?"

From Quiz If These Are My Stats, Which Pokemon Am I? (G/S/C)

Answer: Chansey (Lv. 25)

Chansey holds the lowest Attack and Defense stats and the second highest HP, behind its evolution Blissey, of all Pokemon. The three incorrect Pokemon would have much higher Attack and Defense stats and a much lower HP stat at the levels they are at, although Jigglypuff's HP is still very high.

18. How much health does the Pokemon lose if the attack Belly Drum is used when the user is at below 50% of its maximum HP?

From Quiz In-Game "Pokemon" Generation 2 (G/S/C) [2]

Answer: Does not lose HP

Only the attack boost happens; the user does not lose health. Oddly enough, the game will show the text "But it [the attack] failed!" although the user's attack stat will still be increased. Belly Drum is a very useful move in Pokemon such as Clefable, Quagsire, Charizard, and especially Snorlax. Although Belly Drum's main use comes from its unglitched effect, the added bug never hurts!

19. How does Onix evolve into Steelix?

From Quiz "Pokémon Silver" for Gameboy Color

Answer: by trading with another player while it is holding a metal coat

Onix can be obtained by trading a Bellsprout at the house southwest of the Pokémon center in Violet City. It's one of the Pokémons Brock has. Onix is one of the only Pokémon that requires trading with another player in order for it to evolve. It must be holding a metal coat while trading in order for it to evolve.

20. What is the first route in the game?

From Quiz "Pokémon Gold" for Gameboy Color

Answer: Route Twenty-Nine

The reason why route 1 is not the first route is because this is the second generation of "Pokémon". Route 29 connects New Bark Town and Cherrygrove City.

21. What is the highest level of Pokémon that you can fight in the battle tower?

From Quiz "Pokémon Crystal" for Gameboy Color

Answer: One hundred

The battle tower is a new feature added in "Pokémon Crystal". This battle tower is located near the Olivine City sea. The highest level of Pokémons that you can fight in the battle tower without dealing with the Elite 4 is level 40. There will be more Pokémon levels available to fight with once the Elite 4 have been dealt with. It will then go up to level 100.

22. After receiving your first Pokémon from Professor Elm, you take a leisurely walk to a city place on the coast. You make a quick rest here before continuing north to contact Mr. Pokémon. Where might you be?

From Quiz Map of Johto

Answer: Cherrygrove City

Cherrygrove City acts as a rest stop for your first quest. You may want to heal your Pokémon here before traveling to New Bark Town. You will also be able to heal your Pokémon here before you leave to deliver the Mystery Egg to Professor Elm, as your rival will ambush you as you try to leave town. Otherwise, you can buy Potions, Antidotes, and Pokéballs here, as well as obtaining a Map Card for your Pokénav. Otherwise, you most likely won't frequent this town.

23. On Route 34 (between Ilex Forrest and Goldenrod Town) you can find the Elite Three. What kind of Pokémon do they use?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 6, Beyond the Adventure

Answer: Water

All three trainers have two Water Pokémon. The first has a Goldeen and a Seaking, the second has a Staryu and a Starmi, and finally, the third has a Shellder and a Cloyster (notice a pattern?). Defeat all three and you'll get a Soft Sand, which powers up the Ground moves of the holder.

24. What is a swarming Pokémon?

From Quiz 25 for "Gold/Silver"

Answer: A Pokémon that is quite rare where it lives, but can become quite abundant on occasion if you traded phone numbers with the correct trainers

Take Snubbull, for example. He can be found on Route 38 only and is extremely rare. But if you trade phone numbers with the guy named Chad, he may just call you up, explaining how there are Snubbull everywhere, and that it would be a good time to catch one.

25. Why is the Power Generator in Kanto not working the first time you visit it?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 5, The Final Battle

Answer: A part is missing

It turns out that someone got in in the middle of the night and made off with a part. You'll be told that he ran in the direction of Cerulean City.

26. When you finally get to the top (again) and defeat the final Rocket, the Director will come up, after Team Rocket leaves, and give you one of two items. Give the name of one.

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 4, Of the Elite

Answer: Silver Wing & Rainbow Wing

The Rainbow Wing (which "Gold" players will get) basically grants you access to Ho Oh at the top of Tin Tower. The Silver Wing (Which is given to "Silver" players) will give you a chance to capture Lugia in the Whirl Islands.

27. Once you've beaten Chuck, his wife will give you something as a reward. What item is this?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 3, Raging Rockets

Answer: HM02 (Fly)

You're going to want to pick this item up before you leave. It allows you fly to any city/town you've been to before. If you don't get it and continue to sail back up to Olivine City, you'll have to walk all the way back sometime, or just continue without, taking the long way to where ever you want to go.

28. What is the item that you pick up from Professor Elm's colleague?

From Quiz G/S Journey, Part 1, The Beginning

Answer: Mystery Egg

The egg has to be returned to New Bark Town so the professor can study it. This egg will hatch into a Togepi.

29. At what level does Abra evolve into Kadabra?

From Quiz Pokemon Silver and Gold

Answer: 16

At level 16, Abra will evolve into Kadabra. The only way you can get Kadabra to evolve into Alakazam is by trading.
