Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You wake up in your room. After remembering your promise to Professor Elm you run outside to get to his Pokémon Lab as fast as you can before you're late. Where might you be?

Answer: New Bark Town

New Bark Town is the starting town of the game. This is where you get your Pokégear and your first Pokémon. On a later visit, you'll get your Pokédex, and at the end of your Johto adventure, you'll get your only given Master Ball here. This is also where your room is, and you can decorate your room with dolls and such.
2. After receiving your first Pokémon from Professor Elm, you take a leisurely walk to a city place on the coast. You make a quick rest here before continuing north to contact Mr. Pokémon. Where might you be?

Answer: Cherrygrove City

Cherrygrove City acts as a rest stop for your first quest. You may want to heal your Pokémon here before traveling to New Bark Town. You will also be able to heal your Pokémon here before you leave to deliver the Mystery Egg to Professor Elm, as your rival will ambush you as you try to leave town.

Otherwise, you can buy Potions, Antidotes, and Pokéballs here, as well as obtaining a Map Card for your Pokénav. Otherwise, you most likely won't frequent this town.
3. After delivering Mr. Pokémon's Package to Professor Elm, you decide to travel north to the home of your first badge. Where is this?

Answer: Violet City

This is a convenient town. Is has a Pokémon Center and Pokémart like most towns, but it also comes with your first gym (lost of experience points) and Sprout Tower, which is filled with trainers with low-level Pokémon (easy experience and money). Sprout Tower is also a place where you can catch a Pokémon that is not Bug-, Normal-, or Flying type like most early game Pokémon are. You can grab yourself a Gastly, which is one of four Ghost-type Pokémon in the game and the devolved form of two of the other Ghost-Pokémon.
4. There it is, your first badge, but your adventure is merely beginning. Now, you have to travel down the most southern point in Johto for the Hive badge. What is the name of the place?

Answer: Azalea Town

This is where your first encounter with Team Rocket occurs. There's the Slowpoke Well just outside of the town which Team Rocket has claimed for their base of operations. They're slicing off Slowpoke Tails and vending them for extremely high prices. They've also blocked off the gym, so you'll have to deal with them in the well before you can grab your second badge.

There is initially a rocket standing in front of the well. Go to the ball smith's house, and Kurt will run out to stop Team Rocket. He'll push the grunt down the well, but he'll 'hurt his back' doing it, so you'll be charged with defeating Team Rocket.
5. You've moved on and now find yourself in a large city with a department store and radio tower. What is the name of the city you're standing in?

Answer: Goldenrod City

Goldenrod City is the largest city in Johto. It has the radio tower, and in turn, is where you can grab your own Radio Card for your Pokénav. Also, you can pick up the famed bike for free. The owner moved his shop over from Cerulean City, but wasn't able to place his shop in the best place for advertising. If you take a quick look around, you should find a small ally along the eastern side of the city.

His shop is at the end of this ally. Two more things are just nice to have are the Tame Tester and the Name Rater.

The Tame Tester will tell you how much your Pokémon in the first slot likes you. The Name Rater will give you the option of giving your Pokémon a new nickname provided you issued the first one (you cannot rename a Pokémon you got in a trade). Next, there's the Department Store.

The Department store with five floors and a roof, vending a total of 35 different items. Moving right along, there is also and underground section to Goldenrod, with both shops and trainers to battle. Here is where you'll find the Pokémon Salon, where the barbers will cut your Pokémon's hair, making it like you more (And they said money isn't happiness). For those of you feeling lucky, you might want to stop by the Game Corner where you can try your luck at the slot machines or the card flip game. And finally, a city this size has to have a gym.

The trainers and the gym leader herself use cute little Normal Pokémon. The trainers won't have anything too hard, as Normal has no advantages (only weaknesses). The real challenge will be the gym leader, Whitney. She uses a Clefairy and a Miltank. Both have unique attacks and are both a pain to take out. Once you have beaten the gym leader, you'll most likely want to move to Ecruteak City, but there's a tree in the way. How do you get rid of it? Water it, of course. How do you do that with nothing to water it with? Talk to the lady living in the flower shop in the northeastern part of Goldenrod and grab the Squirt Bottle. Hope you enjoyed your stay, and if you didn't, learn to enjoy the attractions of Goldenrod, as you'll be coming back again.
6. A town harboring two monuments of the past: the Burned Tower and the Tin Tower. Where might you be?

Answer: Ecruteak City

Well, the first thing you're probably want to do is go to the Pokémon Center to heal your Pokémon, which is good, because this is also where you'll find Bill. Bill will tell you about the Time Capsule, and how you can trade for Pokémon from the past. After this little speech he'll head off for his home in Goldenrod. If you decide to follow him back to his house with an empty slot in your roster, he'll give you a free Eevee. Also, a man will give you his Itemfinder just for stopping by, so try to seek out his house. Violet City had Sprout Tower, and Ecruteak City has the Burned Tower.

Although there is not as many trainers in the Burned Tower, there is something you won't want to miss. There are multiple holes in on the main floor of the Burned Tower. Make your way to the center one, and drop down it. You'll be able to walk up onto a raised platform where three statues will spring to life and bounce off.

These are the three legendary dogs, and they will now be prowling around Johto. You can keep track of where they are after you've encountered them once, but until then, you'll have to hope luck is with you and you'll run into one by chance.

They are extremely rare, even when they're on the same route you are. Anyway, back to Ecruteak, you may want to pay a visit to the Dance Hall. In the Dance Hall there are five trainers, each with a different Eevee evolution. Defeat them all and then talk to the man in the audience. He'll commend you for your amazing dancing skills and reward you with HM 03 (Surf). Finally, the gym. Morty has set up some invisible floors. If you step off them you'll fall right back to the entrance of the gym (weird, huh?). The floor takes you into the path of every minor trainer in the Gym. Morty has a Gastly, two Haunters, and a Gengar. These should be easy, but can still be annoying with their Confuse Rays and Curses.
7. A lovely port city with a harbor and a lighthouse. Where might you be?

Answer: Olivine City

One of the main things you'll want to do in Olivine City is visit the Lighthouse, where Jasmine, the city's gym leader, is caring for a sick Pokémon. She'll tell you of a pharmacy on Cainwood Island. Go down there, grab the medicine, get back up to Olivine, give the medicine to the Pokémon via Jasmine, and she'll return to her post at the gym where you can battle her for her badge.

Other things you will most likely want to pick up while you're here are the Good Rod and HM04 (Strength). You'll definitely want Strength before you journey to Cainwood.
8. This little island is home to the best pharmacy in the land. You might also be able to win the Storm Badge from the local Gym Leader if you feel you have the time. Where is this?

Answer: Cianwood City

First off, the medicine for the sick Pokémon in Olivine Lighthouse. You can find the pharmacy in the south most house on Cainwood Island. He'll give it to you for free after you explain your dilemma, so don't worry about saving up your cash to buy some excruciatingly expensive über potion (It's actually called the "Secret Potion").

There's also the Pokémon Photographer to the north, and some guy who will give away his Shuckle for free provided you have an open slot. Also, before you return to Jasmine in Olivine, you may want to battle Chuck, the local gym leader.

He has boulders in his gym, so be sure that you grabbed HM04 (Strength) in Olivine City so you can move them. If you beat Chuck, you'll get his badge, which allows your Pokémon to use the move "Fly" to fly instantly to any city you've been to before. And, how convenient, the lady right outside the gym (who also happens to be Chuck's wife) will give you HM02 (Fly) just for beating Chuck. Now, you can fly back to Olivine City instead of having to traverse the water and its hordes of underpowered Water Pokémon.
9. This little town is home of one of Team Rocket's underground secret bases. It is also the home of the seventh gym leader, Pryce. Where am I talking about?

Answer: Mahogany Town

When you first enter Mahogany Town, you'll notice that there is only one alternative exit, which is north. A salesman will offer you Ragecandybars if you try to leave through the eastern part of town, but will not let you pass. Take a trip up to the Lake of Rage where you'll find the infamous Red Gyrados sitting in the middle of the lake. All you have to do is battle it. Whether you catch it or knock it out does not matter. Basically, once it's gone you'll be able to pick up the Red Scale.

This item will not actually affect you directly (you can only trade it to Mr. Pokémon for an Exp. Share), but once you have it, Lance will talk to you.

He will explain his investigations, and get you to follow him back to Mahogany Town. If you enter the Pokémart, you'll witness Lance battling the fake owners, and exposing a trap door. Jump down into Team Rocket's secret base.

Here, you'll have to sift through hordes of Grunts. Two particular Rocket members hold passwords to enter the boss' chamber. You need to beat both of the rockets and then they'll tell you the password. You need both to get into the boss' room.

In the boss' room you'll find an Executive, who will be much more challenging than the Grunts you were facing. Once you beat him, he'll run away, but the Murkrow in the corner will give you the password to the generator room. Run back and near the entrance to the hideout you'll find a large set of thick doors. Insert the password and they should open, but you still have one more battle. Two Executives will run at you, attempting to take you on two vs one. But then, Lance comes along, divvying up the challenge, so you only have to take on one of the Rockets. Beat her, and then go into the generator room. Lance will explain that the only way to stop it is to knock out the Pokémon powering it. He'll propose that he take one side and you the other (you don't really get a choice). Knock out the three Electrodes on your side (you can catch them, if you want, but they're prone to using Self-Destruct). Once you've completed this task, Mahogany will return to normal and you'll be able to battle Pryce for the Glacier Badge. To get to Pryce you have to slip along the length of his gym in a certain way or else you'll overshoot him. Once you get to him, though, he's not too hard: A Seal, a Dewgong, and a Piloswine.
10. The home of the final badge, this is also home of the Dragon's Den. Which City is this?

Answer: Blackthorn City

Although you're at the very end of your journey in Johto, don't head off to the gym just yet. Claire is a pain to beat with three Dragonairs and a Kingdra. Instead of challenging the gym right away, why don't you take a look around town? One man of interest would have to be the Move Deleter.

He will make your Pokémon forget any move you want them to, even HMs. Also, there's a new item in this Pokémart that you could never buy before: the Ultra Ball! Before, you could only get those Great Balls (One step up from a Pokéball). Ultra Balls make Pokémon-catching so much easier, and some Pokémon cannot be caught in anything less than an Ultra Ball (i.e. the legendary dogs, Lugia, and Ho-Oh). So, when you're done catching new Pokémon with relative ease, and when you're done deleting all those unwanted moves, then you might want to try out the gym. Claire and her entourage use Dragon Pokémon which can take a severe beating and dish out a hearty one of their own. OK, so let's say you defeat Claire. You should get that eighth badge, right? No, not happening, not with Claire.

She will withhold her badge and send you out on a quest to prove your worth. She'll send you into the Dragon's Den, which is situated behind the gym. In there you'll need to find the Dragon Fang. Basically, you swim over to it, pick it up and Claire will come along, acknowledge her defeat, give you the badge, as well as TM (24 (Dragonbreath)... There, done. You've been to every city and town in Johto. Head on down to New Bark Town where you'll get instructions on how to reach the Indigo Plateau to battle the Elite Four for the title as Champion.
