Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which location do we team up with Lance to fight off Team Rocket?

Answer: Mahogany Town

After fighting the red Gyarados in the Lake of Rage, Lance, a former member of the Elite Four, will come forth to ask for our help (after all, we've just fought a shiny dragon). As it turns out, Team Rocket will be behind most of the odd happenings in Johto's northern reach, having been broadcasting a problematic radio signal from the basement of a house in Mahogany Town. With Lance's help, we can infiltrate the Team Rocket base and stop their meddling.

It won't necessarily end there. Even though Lance has to move along, we'll be able to continue putting Team Rocket down back in Goldenrod City, since they'll have taken over the radio tower there too.
2. Where are we able to complete a sixteen-piece puzzle of a Kabuto?

Answer: Ruins of Alph

It's not the only one either. At different chambers scattered around the Ruins of Alph we can complete four different puzzles of sixteen blocks, each of which is rearranged to form the image of a fossil or legendary Pokemon. Completing any of these will release Unowns into the Ruins below, and completing all four will allow us to catch all twenty-six variants of these otherwise mysterious creatures.

As for Kabuto itself, the only way to get one in "Gold", "Silver", or "Crystal" is via the Time Capsule. In effect, it's neither possible to get the actual fossil nor catch one in this Generation.
3. In which of these spots can we visit a barber?

Answer: Goldenrod City Tunnels

Goldenrod City is a massive place, and there's nearby no end to the amount of nooks and crannies we can visit there, especially since a first visit to this location is likely to result in a bit of a dead end, at least until we defeat Whitney and get the Normal Badge. Part of the route through here will involve locating the underground shops in the tunnels beneath the Department Store as they'll contain a handful of shops and trainers (and a loose Coin Case, needed to play at the Game Corner).

Amongst the shopkeepers here are the Haircut Barbers, who take turns manning their stall. On days in which they're available, we can get our Pokemon haircuts, in turn upping their friendship level and levelling certain Pokemon just a bit earlier.
4. Where can we use HM07 (Waterfall) to proceed into Kanto?

Answer: Tohjo Falls

Visiting Tohjo Falls prematurely means hitting a dead end (though we can collect a Moon Stone there!) because the route will require that we ascend a waterfall which, at this point in the series, would have been considered impossible. The truth is that we'll need to get the brand-new HM, HM07, to let a Pokemon ride up and over, granting access to Kanto and the final Routes that head up to the Indigo Plateau. If we're looking for more opportunities to use this handy HM, Mt. Mortar contains another waterfall-- it just won't take us to Kanto.
5. Where do we need to chase down a Farfetch'd?

Answer: Ilex Forest

Running around Azalea Town, part of our to-dos will involve getting our hands on the absolutely-necessary HM01 (Cut), which happens to be an item that the Charcoal Man has in his possession. Or...at least... he normally does. After dealing with the Team Rocket infiltration in Slowpoke Cave we can head into Ilex Forest to chase down a Farfetch'd who's nabbed HM01. If we can corral him back to the start of the woods, we can get the reward and head further into Johto
6. Where do we get our starter Pokemon?

Answer: New Bark Town

This adventure starts in a brand new spot-- New Bark Town-- in the southeast corner of the Johto map, and it's where we'll be able to speak to Professor Elm and pick between Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile before heading out on an errand. Collecting one of these Pokemon will result in a rival trainer (considered 'Silver') stealing their own, and it'll always be the type that's super effective to the one we've chosen.

This rival will pop up on a recurring basis throughout the game, putting our team to the test.
7. In which of these underground locations could we NOT be in Johto?

Answer: Granite Cave

Johto contains a number of caves, many of which contain distinctly earthy Pokemon (and some normal-types just getting by). Union Cave is an early option; a mandatory pass-through that we must hit to get from Violet City to Azalea Town, it contains a number of trainers and early Pokemon ideal for bringing up our party's stats in time for the second gym. Dark Cave is technically even earlier, accessible once we collect HM05 and use Flash to illuminate it, but it's not a mandatory cave, instead acting as a connecting passage from Blackthorn City (to the north) and Violet City.

Waterfall Cave, found between Ecruteak City and Mahogany Town, is within Mt. Mortar.

Granite Cave is found in Hoenn in "Pokemon Ruby" and "Pokemon Sapphire".
8. Where can we climb up Sprout Tower?

Answer: Violet City

Sprout Tower may seem like a bit of a silly place since, at this stage of the game, we'll only be facing off against severely low-levelled foes, but it does serve a bit of a purpose in providing early trainers wielding easier Bellsprouts (and a Hoothoot) for starter trainers.

At the top, we'll face our Rival and, ideally, speak to the elder who ovrersees the shaking structure. He'll hand over HM05, needed to proceed through the nearby caves, but we'll need to finish up the fights at Violet Gym to be able to train a Pokemon with it.
9. Where would we be located if the Silver Wing can be put to use?

Answer: Whirl Islands

The Silver Wing is found in one of two places-- with the Director of the Goldenrod City Radio Tower in "Silver" and in Pewter City in "Gold"-- and once it's in-hand, it can be put to use. The key to being able to reach one of the game's two legendary bird Pokemon, it requires that we head to the Whirl Islands south of Olivine City, swim out across the dangerous waters (with HM06), and hunt for the spot where Lugia can be found and caught.

In "Gold", the Rainbow Wing is obtained via the same manner and we need to bring it to the Tin Tower in Ecruteak City to use it (to catch Ho-Oh).
10. Where must we be if we can visit a Pokemart?

Answer: Goldenrod City

Goldenrod City happens to contain the largest Pokemart in Johto, much in the same way that Celadon City had its department store in Kanto, and we can visit all of its floors for all of its sorted wares quite early on in the adventure as Goldenrod is the third gym location and the largest city on the Johto map (it's inevitable!).

Interestingly though, many major locations in Johto have no Pokemart to speak of. New Bark Town, like Pallet Town in Kanto, is the starting location, so there's no need; Cianwood City may very well be in a poor position to have a Pokemart being across the sea from Olivine City (though it does have a pharmacy); Mahogany Town does appear to have a makeshift shop (run by 'grandma'), but it is also devoid of a true Pokemart.
