'Fortnite' is the overarching name for a number of diverse game modes developed and released by the video game publisher, Epic Games. Whilst modes such as 'Reload', 'Blitz' and 'Save the World' have attracted decent player numbers, it is for 'Battle Royale' - up to one hundred players in a winner takes all shootout - that the game is the most well known.
The very first 'Battle Royale' map - released as part of Chapter 1: Season 1 - centred on an island called Athena, named after the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare. This began the trend of naming 'Fortnite' islands after mythological figures, with other such examples being Apollo, Artemis and Asteria (three characters whose interactions form the basis of the creation story for the Greek island of Delos).
The 'Fortnite' island of Athena initially featured ten named locations - also referred to in the game as points of interest (POIs) - and every single one embraced alliterative naming. This penchant for alliteration has continued throughout the chapters but the initial strict compliance to the convention has somewhat softened over time, particularly when incorporating locations in collaboration with franchises such as 'The Simpsons' (Evergreen Terrace, Burns Manor and Springfield Town Square as just three examples).
Compared to more modern maps, the original map was somewhat more simplistic but it still remains popular with players, so much so that there is a game mode called 'OG' that allows gamers to revisit the early days of 'Fortnite'. The original map had Loot Lake at its spiritual - even if not geographic - centre, a watery landscape that was a common starting point for gamers due to the abundance of chests and items in the area.
Other named locations on the original map include agricultural zones (Anarchy Acres, Fatal Fields), an industrial landscape (Flush Factory), residential settlements (Greasy Grove, Pleasant Park, Retail Row) as well as woodlands and swamps (Lonely Lodge, Moisty Mire, Wailing Woods).
The incorrect answers are:
Battlewood Boulevard - a Hollywood-inspired urban area (Chapter 7).
Dirty Docks - a grimy location full of containers, cranes and industrial sheds (Chapter 2).
Evergreen Terrace - an interpretation of the famous street from 'The Simpsons' (Chapter 6).
Rebel's Roost - an eerie abandoned mansion on the island of Helios (Chapter 5).
Shogun's Solitude - a Japanese-themed mountainous hideout (Chapter 6).
