Thematic People in Entertainment Trivia Questions

61. The oft-repeated 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney, is the address of P Sherman and features in which Pixar film?

From Quiz
Addresses of the Fictional and Famous

Answer: Finding Nemo

Despite her terrible ability to remember things for long, Dory, featured in Pixar's "Finding Nemo" (2003) manages to commit the address "P Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney" to memory, which helps her and Nemo's father, Marlin, to move ever closer to, well, finding Nemo. The address belongs to a dentist, full name Philip Sherman, who scoops Nemo out of the sea and places him in his fish tank with other exotic sea life, with the ultimate aim of giving Nemo to his niece as a present.

62. "What are we going to do tonight, Brain?" was a question asked by which dimwitted laboratory mouse sidekick to his partner, the Brain?

From Quiz Me & You Versus the World

Answer: Pinky

'Pinky and the Brain, Pinky and the Brain, one of them's a genius, the other's insane...' Pinky, of course, being the insane one of the two mice. Every time Pinky asked what they were going to do tonight, the Brain would reply, "The same thing we try to do every night, Pinky. Take over the world." They were laboratory mice at ACME Labs, and both able to talk as a result of experimentation. The same experiments also made the Brain a super genius, hence his overly large head. Pinky was also the nicer of the two mice, with a few weird verbal tics and a Cockney accent. He was voiced by Rob Paulsen.

63. "Fool, fool! thou whet'st a knife to kill thyself. To help thee curse that poisonous bunch-back'd toad." Which Shakespearean character was alleged to be hunchbacked?

From Quiz Got a Hunch?

Answer: Richard III

Shakespeare wrote "Richard III" in 1592, chronicling the man who was King of England for only two years. He was, allegedly, a clever man and stronger in mind than body, and while today's historians believe he may have had scoliosis, it's Shakespeare's image of the man (and the character) that has shaped peoples' interpretations of the former King. That said, it was important to portray Richard as a villain as, in history, it was his death that ended the House of York and ushered in the House of Tudor's reign. The "Richard III" tragedy is one of Shakespeare's longest works even though it was one of the shortest real-life reigns he put into a play.

64. In the "Bridget Jones" film series, the heroine has relationships with three men. Which one does she end up marrying?

From Quiz Lovers of the World Unite

Answer: Mark

At the end of the third film, "Bridget Jones' Baby" (2016), Bridget (Renée Zellweger) finally marries her on-and-off beau, human rights lawyer Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), who also turns out to be the father of her baby. Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) and Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey) are the other men with whom she has more or less meaningful relationships in the three movies of the series, based on Helen Fielding's novels.

From Quiz Say Hello to my Little Friend!

Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong battle King K. Rool for bananas. The pair are also featured in an animated series also named "Donkey Kong Country". Plush character toys were created for children and adults alike.

66. This character's first appearance was alongside Bugs Bunny in the 1946 Looney Tunes cartoon "Hair-Raising Hare". Appearing as a large, red/orange, hairy beast, who is this character whose name ironically means "a transparent and fragile material"?

From Quiz Fictional Flaming Redheads Trivium

Answer: Gossamer

The monster Gossamer was voiced by Mel Blanc from 1946 until 1980. In the original cartoon he tries to eat Bugs Bunny while he lives in the realm of a mad scientist. Interestingly, the character's name was not directly mentioned until 1980 in "Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24½th Century" when Marvin the Martian calls him Gossamer. Chuck Jones so named the character "because he's the opposite looking of gossamer. He's a big, hairy thing". This question was created by Phoenix Rising team member Triviaballer.

67. Rosie Cotton was one of the lesser known hobbits to feature in J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Ring's' trilogy and its film adaptations. Which member of the Fellowship did she marry?

From Quiz Kiss From a Rose

Answer: Sam Gamgee

Rosie Cotton was the childhood sweetheart of Samwise "Sam" Gamgee, who remained at home in The Shire while he followed his friend and employer, Frodo Baggins, on the quest to return the One Ring to the heart of Mount Doom. After his triumphant return to his homeland, Sam and Rosie were married and went on to have a family of 13 children. Rosie appeared briefly in two of Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' film adaptations - 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and 'The Return of the King'. She was portrayed by Sarah McLeod, who despite her extremely limited time on screen was one of the more high-profile actresses from New Zealand to have a role in the New Zealand-filmed series. Frodo never married before he sailed into the West with Gandalf, Bilbo and the elves. Peregrin "Pippin" Took became Thain of the Shire and married a hobbit named Diamond while Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck inherited the title of Master of Buckland and married Estella Bolger.

68. Mel Blanc, The Man of a Thousand Voices, came up with a trademark laugh for which blue character with a spiky, red hairdo?

From Quiz Fictional Flaming Redheads Redux

Answer: Woody Woodpecker

Woody Woodpecker is a cartoon character who was voiced by Mel Blanc in the first two cartoons. Woody Woodpecker has a recognisable laugh that is similar to the call of the pileated woodpecker. For a time after Blanc left, archived sounds were used to reproduce the laugh. Subsequently, many actors have taken over voicing Woody Woodpecker. This question was created by Phoenix Rising member purelyqing.

69. Basil Brush was a cheeky puppet that first appeared in 1962. Best known for his bushy tail and crazy laugh, "Ha, ha, boom, boom". What type of animal is Basil Brush?

From Quiz Fictional Flaming Redheads

Answer: Red Fox

Basil Brush, a red fox hand puppet, first appeared in a TV show called "The Three Scampis" (1962) along with a human and Spike McPike, a Scottish hedgehog. Basil then made appearances on David Nixon's magic show in 1967 and 1968. In 1968 he was given his own BBC television show. Known for his raucous laugh, sophisticated humour, "posh" voice based on Terry Thomas' accent and his ability to tell a story, Basil soon found broad appeal across all ages, not just children. Part of the appeal is you never saw the puppeteer, Ivan Owen who never gave interviews, only Basil. Even after Owen's death in 2000, the character continued with no "visible" puppeteer. Basil has appeared in numerous media with guest appearances and in various guises. In 2005 he became the first puppet to win the game show, "The Weakest Link" (UK version). In 2015 he was afforded his own YouTube channel. This question was created by Phoenix Rising member 1nn1.

70. Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors" is a farce of mistaken identities as two sets of identical twins show up in the same town at the same time. Rogers and Hart created a musical based on the play. What is its name?

From Quiz Brush Up Your Shakespeare

Answer: The Boys from Syracuse

The confusion is heightened because the twins were separated at birth, do not know about each other, and have the same name. Antipholus of Ephesus has a servant named Driomiio of Ephasus. His brother Antipholus of Syracuse has a servant named Dromio of Syracuse. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1938 and was made into a film in 1940. One of the songs from the show, "This Can't Be Love," was a hit for Benny Goodman and recorded by stars such as Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, and Diana Krall

71. Who were the co-hosts of the radio show, "Car Talk", where they were known as "Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers"?

From Quiz Entertaining Twosomes

The Magliozzis were long time car mechanics from the Boston area which was where the show was originally broadcast.

72. Perhaps the earliest sidekick on record was John Little, or 'Little John', as he was re-christened by Robin Hood's merry band. He had the distinction of being the only one of the band to be present at Robin's death. Why?

From Quiz You Don't Really Kick Them in the Side

Answer: He assisted a very ill Robin to a nunnery to be bled

Although Will Scarlet was upset at Robin's small escort, Robin insisted that Little John would get him the help he needed. The letting of blood was a common 15th century practice for many illnesses. His cousin, a nun, let too much blood, and caused his death. Little John appears in the earliest ballads and stories. He is supposed to have been a seven-footer who initially defeats Robin with a quarter staff, pushing him into a stream. He loyally stayed with the band until it's end. He has a grave in Derbyshire.

73. Bud Flanagan was part of a British comedy and singing duo that began during the music hall era of entertainment. Who was his equally famous partner?

From Quiz Put Her There, Partner!

Answer: Chesney Allen

Known popularly as Flanagan and Allen, Bud Flanagan (1896-1968) and Chesney Allen (1892-1983) had a career ranging from live stage performances during the days of music hall, to working together in both film and television, and making many successful recordings of their music. They came together in 1926 in a music hall revue, and by the Second World War, when they were at the height of their popularity, they were also making films together. Their music was usually gently comical, and the majority of their overall performances together was usually based on the lives of everyday characters. Their most famous song perhaps is the lovely old 1932 number "Underneath the Arches" which was co-written by Flanagan with song writer Reg Connelly. The grand old team Flanagan and Allen first met during World War One when both were serving in the army, but it wouldn't be for some years before their famous act was launched. They then worked together until 1945, when Allen retired from the stage to concentrate on a business career. Flanagan continued working until his death. His last recording, believe it or not, is the voice you hear singing the theme song to the comical British television series "Dad's Army" which ran from 1968 to 1977, and which features the comical exploits of the British Home Guard during World War Two. Allen, who had retired from the partnership as a result of poor health, and concentrated on a career as a theatrical agent from that time, outlived his old stage partner and friend by some fifteen years.

76. A popular radio show from the 1930s that expanded into television, movies, animation, books, comic books and even video games often had characters blurt out the question, "Who was that masked man, anyway?" Well, who was he?

From Quiz I Never Remember Faces

Answer: The Lone Ranger

The stirring theme song (Rossini's William Tell Overture) and the Lone Ranger crying out "Hi-yo, Silver! Away!" as he galloped off would often prompt bystanders to question, "Who was that masked man, anyway?" The original Lone Ranger on the 1933 radio show was voiced by different voice actors, but one of the more recognizable Lone Rangers was the first one to hit the television screens in a series that lasted from 1949 to 1957 with Clayton Moore filling the role of John Reid (the Lone Ranger) and Jay Silverheels as Tonto. The Lone Ranger (originally a Texas Ranger) followed a strict moral code: I believe... that to have a friend, a man must be one. that all men are created equal and that everyone has within himself the power to make this a better world. that God put the firewood there, but that every man must gather and light it himself. in being prepared physically, mentally, and morally to fight when necessary for that which is right. that a man should make the most of what equipment he has. that 'this government of the people, by the people, and for the people' shall live always. that men should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number. that sooner or later...somewhere...somehow...we must settle with the world and make payment for what we have taken. that all things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever. in my Creator, my country, my fellow man. 77. 'Pollyanna' was only the first of fourteen books about Pollyanna, written by five different authors, all of which were grouped together by adding a tag to each title that referred to them as a series of books. What was this series called?

From Quiz Little Miss Sunshine

Answer: The Glad Books

Eleanor H. Porter wrote 'Pollyanna', later retitled 'Pollyanna: The First Glad Book', and the first sequel, 'Pollyanna Grows Up' (1915), again retitled as the second Glad Book. After her death, the publishers were reluctant to terminate the phenomenally successful series, so they turned to other authors. Harriet Lummis wrote books three through six; Elizabeth Burton books seven through ten and fourteen (a number allocated after subsequent sequels appeared which fit chronologically between 'Pollyanna's Golden Horseshoe' and 'Pollyanna and the Secret Mission'); Margaret Piper Chalmers book eleven; and Virginia May Moffitt books twelve and thirteen. Two later books by Colleen L. Reece, from the 1990s, do not include themselves in the Glad Books series.

78. In the 1994 romantic comedy "I.Q.", Albert Einstein helps an auto mechanic, Ed Waters-played by Tim Robbins, catch the eye and heart of his niece, Catherine Boyd-played by Meg Ryan. What Oscar winning actor played the part of genius Albert Einstein?

From Quiz Entertaining Geniuses

It is love at first sight when Catherine enters Ed's garage. From Quiz Bang!

Answer: Scarface

Al Pacino played Tony Montana, member of a cocaine cartel, in Brian De Palma's 1983 film "Scarface". The scene described in the question took place towards the end of the film. In his shooting rampage, Tony killed fellow cartel members after they killed his younger sister, before he himself was shot and killed. Due to the violence and drugs, the film was originally given an X rating, but it was later dropped to R after De Palma appealed to the ratings' board.

81. Jack is not always a comical fellow. In what Stanley Kubrick film, based on a novel by Stephen King, do we find the deranged Jack Torrance?

From Quiz You Don't Know Jack

Answer: The Shining

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." One of the greatest horror movies of all times, "The Shining," stars Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. Anyone who has ever seen this movie will remember REDRUM, Room 237, and "Here's Johnny." In Stephen King's novel, Room 237 was Room 217; however, the Timberline Lodge (Overlook Hotel) asked Kubrick to change the room number to 237. As there was no Room 237 in the hotel, the thought was that this change would ensure guests wouldn't seek out or avoid Room 217. "Full Metal Jacket" was directed by Kubrick. "Easy Rider" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" starred Jack Nicholson.

82. Who formed a comedic team with singer Dean Martin?

From Quiz Famous Partnerships

Answer: Jerry Lewis

Dean Martin was born Dino Paul Crocetti. His unique singing voice and style resulted in a great musical career. Lewis, born Jerome Levitch, had a notable career as a comedian. After his comedic career he became identified with the Labor Day Telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

83. Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were another classic comedy team. By what names were this duo born?

From Quiz Comic Cliques

Answer: Arthur and Norville

Arthur Stanley Jefferson and Norville Hardy, after both had success in silent films, were finally paired in 1921 and went on to 40 short and 32 full length films. In the sound era they did 32 shorts and 23 full length films, not counting 'guest' appearances in other films. Stan generally had a bemused grin on his face; Ollie was a like a tea kettle ready to boil over. One seemed as dim-witted as the other but had a friendship bond that appealed to their audiences. Because much of their humor was physical, it is difficult to translate to the written page. One scene that I remember is Stan and Ollie trying to deliver a piano over a rope bridge strung between two mountains in the Alps. Halfway across the bridge, they meet a gorilla. Again, you have to see it. Stan's: "You can lead a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead." "He who filters your good name, steals trash." "What a terrible cat's-after-me." Ollie's: "Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into!" "Why don't you do something to HELP me?" "Excuse me please, my ear is full of milk." "I know she went out, but what I'd like to know is where did she went?"

84. Who has played the characters Avery Bullock and Number One on animated television programmes, and has appeared as himself on an episode of British comedy, 'Extras'?

From Quiz Cameo People

Answer: Patrick Stewart

Avery Brooks has been a recurring character on American animation, 'American Dad'. The character acts as the boss of the central character, Stan, on the show. Number One was the leader of the stonecutters on an episode of 'The Simpsons' entitled 'Homer the Great'. Patrick made fun of himself when appearing on Ricky Gervais' 'Extras'. Here is an example of a Patrick Stewart line on the episode. "Yeah. For instance, I'm walking along, and I see this beautiful girl, and I think I'd like to see her naked, so all her clothes fall off."

85. Entertainment: This icon of wrestling had a career which spanned over 50 years in numerous associations as a wrestler and manager, a career which ended up in the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). Who was the "Classy" guy?

From Quiz Entertain Me, Fred

Answer: Freddie Blassie & Freddy Blassie & Fred Blassie & Blassie

Blassie known as "Classy Freddie Blassie" began his wrestling career in 1935, and after a 42 month interruption to go overseas and fight in World War Two, he continued his wrestling career in such places as Atlanta Georgia, in the NWA in the 1950s, Los Angeles California in the WWA (World Wrestling Association) and on the East coast of the U.S. in the WWWA (World Wide Wrestling Association) in the 1960s, and into the 1970s. Blassie was cast as a villain during most of his active career. He retired from active wrestling in 1974 and became a manager to some of the most well known wrestlers of the time, such as Hulk Hogan, George "The Animal" Steele, The Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, and King Kong Bundy, just to name a few. The term "pencil necked geek" was a term he came up with early in his career to describe a wrestler he had a feud with early in his career, and the term stuck. Blassie passed away in 2003.
