On a fine weekend in June of 2024, I thought I would experiment with the word ladder / drop-a-letter brain teaser format. In this quiz, the goal is to create the ladder by correctly ordering clues. Good luck obtaining the unique solution!

A statement is "vacuously true" if the premise is not true. For instance, "if pigs fly then I will speak to him again" remains true so long as pigs never fly. Another true statement is "if 3 is even then so is 5". Can you sort truth from falsehood?

Oxymorons are a figure of speech in which contradictory terms appear together. This quiz has 10 common two-word examples but I'm only giving you a clue to one of them. You have to match it to the other. Please read instructions!

Newspapers sometimes publish a crossword with both easy, or "straight" clues and harder cryptic ones. This quiz does the same, so you have two chances to solve each question. The answers all relate somehow to the words "easy" or "hard".

You'll get 9 word pairs in which the last letter of the first word is also the first letter of the last word. Replace this common letter by another letter having the same effect. The correct solution will give you (9 for 10) a word top to bottom.

Ten cryptic clues. Ten absurd answers. Well - ten answers which are synonyms for 'absurd', which, perhaps, isn't quite the same thing! Good luck with solving them.
