He earned a Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his performance as Feto Gomez in the 1962 classic 'The Birdman of Alcatraz'. He played Pontius Pilate in 'The Greatest story Ever Told' (1965), Archer J. Maggott in 'The Dirty Dozen' (1967), the evil Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the 1969 James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', and Big Joe in 'Kelly's Heroes' (1970). Savalas died in California a day after his 72nd birthday in January 1994.
The alternatives all died in 1998... Jack Lord is best remembered for his 12-year stint (1968-1980) as Steve McGarrett in 'Hawaii Five-O'.
