Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following characters is NOT a Jay Garrick villain?

Answer: Brain Wave

Jay Garrick fought a number of foes over his original nine-year run, but Brain Wave wasn't one of them.

The original Rag Doll, a contortionist, first appeared in "Flash Comics" #36, in December 1942.
Rose and Thorn, a woman with a split personality and an extensive knowledge of plants, first appeared in "Flash Comics" #89 in November 1947.
Long before the Shade was made famous by James Robinson, he debuted in "Flash Comics" #33, in September 1942.
Brain Wave, by contrast, debuted in "All-Star Comics" #15 in 1943, and did not primarily oppose Jay Garrick. He was also a founding member of the Injustice Society of the World.
2. Which of these classic Silver Age Rogues was the last to debut?

Answer: Heat Wave

Heat Wave debuted in "Flash" #140, in November 1963.

Pied Piper debuted in "Flash" #106 in May 1959.

Captain Boomerang debuted in "Flash" #117 in December 1960.

Weather Wizard debuted in "Flash" #110 in December 1959.
3. How many Rogues have younger sisters up until the New 52 Era?

Answer: Two

Captain Cold's younger sister, Lisa Snart, is a Rogue herself and goes by the name of Golden Glider. She debuted in "Flash" #150 in 1977.

The Pied Piper is the other Rogue to have a younger sister. Her name is Geraldine "Jerrie" Rathaway, and she only appeared once: in "Flash vol. 2" #32, in 1989.
4. How many of the Rogues have had children (until the New 52 Era)?

Answer: Three

Three of the Rogues have had children (in the main timeline, at least).

The original Captain Boomerang, George "Digger" Harkness, had a son named Owen Mercer. Owen inherited his father's skill with the boomerang...and low-level super-speed from the family of his mother, Meloni Thawne. This also makes Owen the half-brother of the hero Bart Allen (a.k.a. Impulse/Kid Flash).

The Weather Wizard had a one-night stand with a cop named Julie Jackam, which produced a son (Josh Jackam). The child had innate weather-controlling powers and was tragically killed by Inertia during Rogues' Revenge.

Finally, the original Trickster, James Jesse, had a son named Billy Hong. He was the product of James' relationship with a woman named Mindy Hong, and he also had control of his own personal angel. Sadly, he only showed up once, in 1999's The Rogues: New Year's Evil.
5. Which of the Rogues cannot swim?

Answer: Mirror Master I and Captain Boomerang I

The two Rogues who canonically could not swim during the Bronze Age were Sam Scudder, the original Mirror Master, and George Harkness, the original Captain Boomerang.

Sam revealed that he could't swim in "Flash" #255 (1977), while Digger made the same claim in "Flash" #311 (1982).
6. Which of the the Flash's villains possessed Barry Allen's father?

Answer: The Top

The Top possessed Henry Allen in a memorable Bronze Age story that ran from "Flash" #297-303 (1981). The last of these issues, "The Top is Alive and Well in Henry Allen", actually revealed the twist that one of Barry's old foes was possessing the body of his father.
The Golden Glider, the Top's girlfriend and fellow Rogue, was also a major character in this storyline.
7. Which of Barry Allen's foes was the first to die?

Answer: The Top

The Top was the first of the Flash's foes to die, with his funeral being held during "Flash" #243-244 (1976).

The Reverse-Flash died when Barry Allen snapped his neck to save Fiona Webb, his fiancee, in "Flash" #324 (1983).

Mirror Master I died in "Crisis on Infinite Earths" #10 (1986) in an attempt to defeat the Anti-Monitor.

The Golden Glider died in "Flash vol. 2" #113 (1996) when she was killed by a Chillblaine.
8. What did writer Carey Bates mistakenly call Mirror Master I and the Top by in "Flash" #219 (1972)?

Answer: Joe Scudder and Roscoe Neyle

Cary Bates, the Bronze Age Flash writer, had something of a habit of misremembering characters' names, and this issue had one of the best examples. In the story, instead of Sam Scudder and Roscoe Dillon (both of which had been established by the time of the story), he calls the pair Roscoe Neyle and Joe Scudder. Eventually, DC would fix this mistake by making the characters' full names Samuel Joseph Scudder and Roscoe Neyle Dillon.

Henry Darrow was an in-universe alias used by the Pied Piper. Rory Calhoun was the name mistakenly given to Heat Wave by Mark Waid during the mid-1990s. His real name is Mick Rory.

Adrian Zoom was an alias of Professor Zoom the Reverse-Flash, while Eobard Thyne was another example of Cary Bates forgetting a character's name.
9. Which of the Rogues turned 40 years old during Geoff Johns' run?

Answer: Heat Wave

Heat Wave is one of the very few characters who is ever given a concrete age in the Flash comics. During Geoff Johns' run, it was stated that he had turned 40. Johns also established that the Pied Piper was "thirty-something" during his run.
10. Which villain did the Flash team up with the Shade to defeat?

Answer: Rainbow Raider

After some initial distrust, Barry Allen teamed up with the Shade to put an end to the malevolent plans of Roy G. Bivolo, the dreaded Rainbow Raider!

This colorful fight happened in "Flash" #298-299 (1981).
