Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sometimes the greatest threat a hero face is a villain who posses all the same powers and abilities as himself. Both the second (Barry Allen) and third (Wally West) Flash have faced a villain with the same name who took a loved one from them. What is the name of this Rogue?

Answer: Zoom

The first Zoom who also preferred the title of Professor Zoom was a speedster from the 25th century named Eobard Thawne who first appeared in "Flash" v.1 #139 (1963). His enmity with Barry Allen caused him to kill Barry's girlfriend Iris Allen (although she was actually dragged into the future at the moment of death).

The second Zoom was a police profiler who wanted the Flash to help him go back in time and change his personal history. After Wally refused he tried anyway and in "Flash" #197 v.2 2003,an explosion gave him the ability to alter relative time and he adopted the nom de plume of the previous Flash's greatest foe.
2. Perhaps the oldest of any foe of the Flash is this man who has plagued nearly every incarnation of the Flash. From his first appearance in "Green Lantern" #10 v.1 (1943), he has fought against the Justice Society and the original Flash Jay Garrick. Who is this rather long lived villain?

Answer: Vandal Savage

The man known as Vandal Savage is a fifty thousand year old caveman originally known as Vandar Adg. He came across a meteorite that bestowed upon him intelligence, strength and immortality.
3. The Flash seems to attract time travelers like flies to honey. What is the name of the evil "magician" of the 64th century who first waltzed on stage in "Flash" v.1 #128 (1962)?

Answer: Abra Kadabra

In the future he was a man who dreamed of a career as a stage magician but technology had become so advanced as to make magic tricks obsolete. He therefore traveled back in time to find an audience before settling down to a life of crime.
Mumbo Jumbo was the name of an Abra Kadabra like character created solely for the "Teen Titans" cartoon series.
4. One of the Flash's greatest foes is an anthropomorphic beast who might not seem nearly as deadly as he is. His given name is Grodd, but many often attach his species to his name. What animal species is Grodd a member of?

Answer: Gorilla

Originally Grodd and the other inhabitants of Gorilla City were mere apes. They then found an alien spacecraft that empowered all the gorillas with super intelligence and Grodd with telekinesis and mind control powers in
"Flash" v.1 #106 (1959). During times when Grodd's powers wane or he becomes extremely agitated his more animalistic side comes out .
5. This insect named villain was a cult leader who wished to resurrect his wife. He believed he had been saved by the lighting bolt and thus had an affinity with the Flash. Who is this deranged cult mastermind who started bugging Flash in "Flash" v.2 #171 (2001)?

Answer: Cicada

Due to his supposed connection with the Flash he believed that he could sacrifice the people who Flash had saved to resurrect his wife. He and his cultists were stopped but not before the death of many people Flash had saved over the years.
6. Although not actually a Rogue or even technically a villain this being could definitely be considered the Flash's greatest enemy. What is the name of the persona of death that comes when a speedster dies?

Answer: The Black Flash

He can only be seen by one with the connection with the speed force. Although linked with the deaths of early speedsters like Barry Allen and Johnny Quick he was not actually recognized for what he was until "Flash" v.2 #138 (1998). He was seen in pictures before the deaths of other speedsters but was originally believed to be just a trick of the camera.

He twice came for Wally West but both times he was able to escape him. The Black Racer is also a death avatar in the DC universe but is more associated with the New Gods.
7. Fights with family members, even those you did not know existed, are often times extremely tense. The first Cobalt Blue was the long lost brother of which Flash?

Answer: Barry Allen

Cobalt Blue was not just your ordinary villain but rather a generational recurrence. The first in the lineage was Malcolm who appeared in
"Speed Force" #1, November (1997), who was given to the Thawne family after the doctor had accidentally killed their child in childbirth . He took from those parents the power of the blue flame that would fuel his hatred and that of his descendants towards the Allen legacy for over a thousand years.
8. Which reluctant Rogue with explosive teleportation powers who started to pop up in "Flash" v.2 #180 (2002) , only became a criminal in order to get help for her dad who needed a kidney transplant to live?

Answer: Peek-a-Boo

When she originally attempted to donate her own kidney her latent metagene kicked in and she received her powers. She first attempted to steal a kidney but was thwarted by the Flash. Later after escaping she reached the hospital just in time to watch her father die.
9. Despite his brief run as the Flash, Bart Allen still had a few Rogues exclusive to him. Which of the villains was not a villain who was almost exclusively of Bart's including his time as Flash, Kid Flash and Impulse?

Answer: Mota

White Lighting is a villainess who was the first costumed crooks way back in "Impulse" #4 (1995). Despite the name she has no speed powers but did have the power to influence men to do her bidding. Inertia is an evil clone of Bart from the future who first sped onto the scene in "Impulse" #50 (1999). The Griffin was a friend of Bart's who gained powers in an accident in "Flash: The Fastest Man Alive" #1, (2006). He started as a hero but became addicted to fame and glory and became a villain before burning out and dying a few issues later.

Manfred Mota has been a thorn in the side for every Flash there has been. He has appeared under a host of aliases including Atom Smasher, Professor Fallout and Fusionn to name a few.
10. For all the classic villains the Flash spawned there are some that you can only laugh at. This one was actually the first costumed villain that the second Flash (Barry Allen)faced in his career way back in "Showcase" #4 (1956) . In his own way he was an opposite of Flash as well. Who was he?

Answer: The Turtle

The Turtle was originally just an extremely slow villain with well though out plans. In a later revamp he actually gained the power to steal speed from other and make them as slow as him, although it still didn't help him. Sloe and Steddy along with Mr Sprynt were henchmen of the Turtle. Speed Demon was the name of a speedster who gained his powers through drugs.
