1. Okay, we pack our bags and head for the LAX (Los Angeles airport). Our plane takes off and we land in a city called Beijing. Where is this city?

Answer: China

Beijing is China's capital. China has a lot of great places to visit such as the Great Wall of China, built to keep out invaders several thousand years ago, the Forbidden City, and other places.

2. We leave Beijing and fly to a country, a little further south in Asia, which is also one of the most populous countries in the world. What is it?

Answer: India

India is located near Southeast Asia, bordering the territory of Kashmir and the country of Pakistan. It is home to the famous Taj Mahal, a gigantic mausoleum.

3. We leave the beautiful continent of Asia and head for the "dark continent" of Africa. We land in a city called Cairo. Where are we?

Answer: Egypt

Cairo is the capital of Egypt. As everyone knows, Egypt is famous for its pyramids, and the Spinx, mummies, and the ancient library at Alexandria, which was burned down several thousand years ago.

4. After leaving Cairo, we arrive in a country on the coast of the Mediterranean in Europe. Its capital is Athens. Where are we?

Answer: Greece

Greece is home to a lot of cool ancient ruins. The famous one is called the Parthenon.

5. Our plane leaves Athens for a country shaped like a boot. We land in a city called Rome. Where are we?

Answer: Italy

Rome is the home base of the Roman empire. There are statues and ruins galore. Rome is home to the Colosseum and many Roman emperors and consuls. Traveling around Italy, you will see art galleries, Michelangelo's "David" sculpture, and the Sistene Chapel.

6. We leave the Mediterranean area of Europe and we land in a small, European country bordered by Scotland and Wales. Our plane lands in the capital of London. What is the name of this country?

Answer: England

Home to kings, queens, dukes galore, England has a lot of places to explore. Trafalgar Square, Picadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, the Crystal Palace, and other attractions await the anxious traveler. I always liked to describe England in one sentence. "It isn't the size of the dog in the fight, it's always the size of the fight in the dog."

7. We leave the beautiful city of London and head on over to South America where we land in the largest country in that continent. What is the name of that country?

Answer: Brazil

Brazil is home to the exotic city of Rio De Janiero. A haven for honeymooners, retired senior citizens, families, and college students on spring break, Brazil features a yearly carnival called, what else? Carnival (pronounce it with an accent)! Brazil is the only country in South America with Portuguese as its official language.

8. Next we fly to the smallest continent in the world. What is it?

Answer: Australia

Home to the Sydney opera house, "Survivor" season two, the 2000 Olympics, actors Paul Hogan and Russell Crowe, and croc enthusiast Steve Irwin (I had to mention my man, the Croc Hunter :)), Australia is full of natural wonders such as Bondi Beach and the Great Barrier Reef. It is also home to a lot of marsupials (animals who have pouches) such as wallabies, kangaroos, and koalas.

9. We endure a long flight from Sydney to a peninsula located between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic ocean. What is the name of this U.S. state?

Answer: Florida

Florida is home to the ever-famous Everglades. Sports teams such as the Orlando Magic (NBA), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (MLB), and the Florida Marlins (MLB) are located in this beautiful state. You will also find an array of theme parks such as MGM Studios, EPCOT Center, and Walt Disney World and educational centers such as the Kennedy Space Center. I had the priviledge of going to Orlando on a school trip seven years ago and got to see all these neat theme parks. I'm definitely going back. :) I miss everything but the humidity. ;)

10. Before we fly back to Los Angeles, we stop off in a naval port. This city is the oldest in California. What is the name of this California city?

Answer: San Diego

I just couldn't resist mentioning my hometown (and I still live here, about 30 minutes from San Diego) :) San Diego is a naval city about two to two and a half hours south of Los Angeles. It is particularly famous for its zoo and the educational theme park, Sea World. Charles Lindbergh's plane, The Spirit of St. Louis, was built here and our airport is named Lindbergh Field after the famous aviator.

Some celebrities have actually lived here, too. Actor Desi Arnaz once resided in Del Mar, Dr. Seuss lived in La Jolla, and actor Gregory Peck was born in La Jolla. San Diego is often known as "America's finest city." :) I hope you enjoyed your "trip" around the world. :)
