Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Not for the first time, an argument had broken out over breakfast at number four, Privet Drive.

Answer: Chamber of Secrets

The second book of the series details Harry's second year at Hogwarts, where he encounters a basilisk and meets Tom Marvolo Riddle. This name was chosen because the letters can be rearranged to spell 'I am Lord Voldemort'. Interestingly enough, in the French edition Tom's full name is Tom Elvis Jedusor, which can be rearranged to say 'je suis Voldemort'.
2. There was once a kindly old wizard who used his magic generously and wisely for the benefit of his neighbours.

Answer: Tales of Beedle the Bard

This standalone book contains fairy tales in the wizarding world such as "The Wizard and the Hopping Pot", "The Fountain of Fair Fortune", "The Warlock's Hairy Heart", "Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump", and of course "The Tale of the Three Brothers".

While the book is referenced in the Harry Potter series and leads to the discovery of the Deathly Hallows, it wasn't published by J.K. Rowling until 2007.
3. No spell yet devised enables wizards to fly unaided in human form.

Answer: Quidditch Through the Ages

This book describes the equipment, rules, and evolution of the wizarding world's most famous sport - Quidditch. Every time the book is bought, some of the money goes towards the charity Comic Relief, which is a British organization dedicated to targeting world poverty. According to Comic Relief, "Quidditch Through the Ages" and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" have together raised £17 million.
4. The villagers of Little Hangleton still called it 'the Riddle House', even though it had been many years since the Riddle family had lived there.

Answer: Goblet of Fire

The original draft of the fourth book included a character called Mopsy Fleabert, who was described as an eccentric old witch who lived in Hogsmeade and loved dogs. The idea was that she would take in Sirius Black thinking he was a dog. However, J.K. Rowling ended up omitting Mopsy from the story and having Sirius Black hide in a cave.
5. The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive.

Answer: Order of the Phoenix

The fifth book of the Harry Potter series features the first time he and his friends seek out the Death Eaters, which leads to the first official battle in the series, which leads to the death of a major character. Originally, Arthur Weasley was supposed to die in this book, but J.K. Rowling decided to let him live in exchange for the lives of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks later in the series.
6. Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.

Answer: Sorcerer's Stone

The first book was originally named "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". However, the publisher believed the word 'philosopher' would be too 'arcane' for American readers and wanted to replace it with a word that was more associated with magic. J.K. Rowling agreed to the title change but later said in a 2001 interview that she regretted it. Original title ideas also included "Harry Potter and the School of Magic".
7. The Acromantula is a monstrous eight-eyed spider capable of human speech.

Answer: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

While the title has also been given to a screenplay, the original book is a guide to the magical beasts of the wizarding world. The book is supposed to be written by Newt Scamander, who also happens to be the main character of the movie series. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is part of the charity Comic Relief.
8. It was nearing midnight and the Prime Minister was sitting alone in his office, reading a long memo that was slipping through his brain without leaving the slightest trace of meaning behind.

Answer: Half-Blood Prince

In the sixth book, Ron begins a relationship with Lavender Brown. This lively girl stirred up quite a bit of controversy in the films. Originally she was played by black actresses, but Hollywood changed its tune when she had to play a bigger role in the sixth movie. From then on, she was portrayed by white actress Jessie Cave.
9. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane.

Answer: Deathly Hallows

The final book in the series is one to be remembered. Perhaps most memorable are the many deaths that occur. According to J.K. Rowling, Hedwig's demise is a symbol of the loss of Harry's innocence. Fred was also chosen to die instead of George because George was the gentler twin. J.K. Rowling guessed that readers would be more likely to expect George to be the one to die.
10. Harry Potter was a highly unusual boy in many ways.

Answer: Prisoner of Azkaban

The third book introduces Sirius Black and the concept of time travel. Readers also encounter the Knight Bus for the first time. The owners of the Knight Bus, Stan Shunpike and Ernie Prang, are actually named after J.K. Rowling's grandfathers.
