The first five rangers were Jason (red), Billy (blue), Trini (yellow), Zach (black) and Kimberly (pink).

As stated in the pilot, titled "Day of the Dumpster", Rita had been locked into her space dumpster and left to float around in the void for 10,000 years.

The opening credit sequence for every season 1 episode included her shrill voice exclaiming "Ah, after 10,000 years I'm free. Time to conquer Earth."

Answer: Earth's moon

Those are the four main sets for the pilot.

Rita's evil palace on the moon, the desert, where Zordon has his command center for the rangers, and the two major hang outs for the rangers when they aren't fighting the forces of evil.

It was never explained how Rita managed to have a huge mansion on the moon built nearly instantaneously.

Answer: Jason & Zack

Jason was obviously the best of the group at fighting. This was shown not only when he bested Zack in a sparring match, but in the next scene when he was teaching the less experienced fighters at the community center. Among the students in his class was Billy.

Answer: Finnster

Most of Rita's monsters throughout the first season were made of clay put through a machine to give them life.

In the pilot episode Finnster was shown crafting the putty patrol and then sending them after the rangers.

Answer: Alpha 5

While it was never mentioned what happened to the first four units, Alpha 5 turned out to be a long-time assistant to Zordon.

The robot appeared to have a good AI system in place as it was able to interact with and assist Zordon with tasks. It did much more than simply obey commands.

Answer: Zack

Zack mentioned several times in the command center about not wanting to do it. He was also the first to leave the command center and urge his friends to walk back to town with him.

Of course when the group was attacked on their walk back he joined in the fight and stuck with them. When it came time to morph into rangers for the first time Zack was the first shown to do so.

Answer: Billy

As mentioned above, Billy was in Jason's introductory class for karate.

He was shown early in the episode to not quite understand even the basic moves Jason was teaching. Billy knew all of the "book" definitions of what to do, but couldn't quite master the moves.

As the series progressed Billy became more and more physically fit.

Answer: Goldar

Goldar was the loyal servant to Rita and also the monster sent to fight the rangers in the pilot.

Unlike monsters in the future, rather than being destroyed, Goldar simply lost and returned to the moon base with Rita.

Answer: Megazord

Each of the five rangers controlled their own zord, however in the pilot those individual zords were never used other than to combine and form the megazord.

Each ranger was shown summoning their zord and then they were shown combining. This would be the way it was done in most of the episodes. Rarely were the zords shown on their own.
