Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Idea 1: A place where there are swings, slides, sand and maybe a pond with some ducks to feed. Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Park

Hopefully the weather will be nice enough to spend the day outside. The kids can run on the grass, play on the swing and slide and hopefully feed some ducks. While they are doing that, I think I'll read my new book...
2. Idea 2: A place where there is water, a lifeguard (or two), a kiosk and plenty of other kids to play with. Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Pool

The kids love going to the pool. There is one quite close to us so there will possibly be some of my kids' friends there for them to play with. Maybe I can take my book there as well...
3. Idea 3: Another watery place but this one has lots of surf, sand, salt and seaweed. Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Beach

The beach is just as much fun as the pool - for the kids at least. For me, there is too much in the way of sand, salt, seaweed, sharks, jellyfish (well, you get the picture). I think we'll take a picnic lunch, some buckets and plenty of sunscreen!
4. Idea 4: (Something my wife is better at than me.) We can buy new school uniforms and shoes for the kids - and maybe a toy or two. Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Shopping

Shopping is not my favourite pastime but the kids DO need some new clothes. Some lunch in the food court then off to the toyshop for some REAL shopping. We could all use some new Lego!
5. Idea 5: Somewhere cold and icy. A place where the kids can go around in circles! Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Ice skating

If we go shopping on the day before we go ice skating I can make sure we have enough warm clothes. I'll sit on the sidelines and watch though I think. It looks way too hard for me and, at my age, I'm liable to break bones if I fall over!
6. Idea 6: An outdoor activity. We'll need sturdy shoes and long trousers. We'll also have to make sure we look out for bears and snakes. Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Hiking

Hiking should be fun. We'll need to make sure my wife knows where we are going and when we intend to be back though. If anything happens to us we will know that she can contact the proper authorities if she is worried. Hopefully it will be a nice, uneventful day in the woods.
7. Idea 7: Another outdoor activity. This one is watery as well. I'll take the kids out in the boat and we'll throw a line in the water. Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Fishing

I think this time we'll go to a lake for some fishing. I'm not a fan of taking the kids out fishing in the ocean - especially in a teeny tiny boat. The lake is more suited to both the boat and my young kids.
8. Idea 8: An indoor activity. It would be much cheaper to watch the TV or DVDs at home but it's more fun to sit in a crowded theatre eating popcorn and drinking fizzy drinks! Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Movies

Going to a movie is probably pretty safe. Unless someone chokes on their popcorn! At least my kids will keep quiet for a few hours - although I will have to deal with popcorn and fizzy drink-fueled kids for a few hours afterwards. Hmmm, is the movies really a good idea...?
9. Idea 9: Outdoors again. We'll need some binoculars and maybe a book to help identify what we are looking at. Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Bird watching

We can probably mix the hiking and bird watching together on the same day. Both activities need similar clothes and location, we have a new bird book at home. What a great idea - thanks for that!
10. Idea 10: This activity can be done indoors or out but I think we'll go for the indoor version this time. A safety harness is a must, so are sensible shoes and strong arms. Where can I take the kids next week?

Answer: Rock climbing

Rock climbing used to be something I liked doing when I was younger. Indoor rock climbing is pretty safe for the kids. It's supervised by professionals and the kids can start to learn to both rely on and help each other - work as a team really.
