Mrs. Gorf taught the class on the thirtieth story. When a student got a problem wrong or was otherwise bad, she would turn him or her into an apple. Who was the first child turned into an apple?

Answer: Joe

Joe was turned into an apple because he couldn't add and copied from John. John became an apple for letting Joe copy. Todd became an apple for complaining. Stephen became an apple for crying. The children finally attacked Mrs. Gorf after they all became apples, and she changed them back to children.

They then reversed her spell so she became an apple, and she was eaten by Louis, the yard teacher.
2. MRS. JEWLS: Mrs. Gorf's replacement on the thirtieth story was named Mrs. Jewls. When she first walked into class, she mistook the children for what type of animal?

Answer: Monkeys

The kids had never had a nice teacher before, and Mrs. Jewls was terribly nice. Mrs. Jewls had never taught cute children before, and the kids of the thirtieth story were terribly cute...so cute, Mrs. Jewls thought they were monkeys. When it was established that they were children, they got down to work.
3. JOE: Joe couldn't count. Mrs. Jewls tried to teach him how during recess one day. When she tried to get him to count pencils, what sequence of numbers did he use?

Answer: 4-6-1-9-5.

Joe kept getting the right answer, though the sequence of numbers was off. He counted the five pencils "4-6-1-9-5." He counted the eight potatoes "7-5-3-1-2-4-6-8." He counted the three books "1,000-1,000,000-3." When Mrs. Jewls taught him the proper order to count to ten, he counted the six erasers "1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10," counting the correct way but arriving at the wrong answer.

He eventually figured it all out on his own.

Answer: less than 45 seconds

Bebe Gunn could draw a cat in less than 45 seconds, a dog in less than 30 seconds, and a flower in less than 8 seconds. In one epic one-hour art class, with the assistance of Calvin, Bebe managed to draw 378 pictures.
7. CALVIN: Mrs. Jewls had an errand for Calvin. She wanted him to take a note to which other teacher in the school?

Answer: Miss Zarves

The other kids made fun of Calvin for his mission to take a note to Miss Zarves because she was the teacher on the 19th story. Unfortunately, there was no 19th story, and there was no Miss Zarves. The builder, who accidentally built the school sideways, also left out the 19th story.

Answer: 124

Dana had 75 mosquito bites on one side, and 49 on the other, for a grand total of 124. 55,006 represents the numbers of hairs on Joe's head, as counted in chapter 3.
12. JASON: When Jason told on Joy for chewing gum in class, Joy got her revenge by doing what?

Answer: Sticking the gum on his chair

Jason was stuck to his chair, and couldn't get unstuck until Joy kissed him on the nose. As a result of getting Jason off the chair, she was allowed to erase her name from the blackboard.

As Mrs. Jewls took off his raincoats, she kept finding more underneath. The smell got worse and worse as she removed layers, and Sammy laughed and insulted her. Finally, when he was down to two inches tall, she removed one last raincoat to find a dead rat. They were always trying to sneak in to her class.
15. DEEDEE: No matter how hard she tried, Deedee could never get downstairs for recess in time to get one of the good balls. What color were the best balls?

Answer: Green

The green balls were the best. The red balls were almost as good, though they didn't bounce as high. There was only one yellow ball, and it never bounced or went the way you kicked it.
