Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I learnt a song about a submarine when I was at school. Do you know what colour the submarine was in The Beatles' song?

Answer: Yellow

'The Yellow Submarine' was a song by The Beatles. Their songs are still popular today.
2. Another song by The Beatles was about a special underwater garden. Do you know who owned this garden?

Answer: An octopus

'Octopus's Garden' was featured on 'The Muppet Show' several times, as well as on 'Sesame Street'. Ringo Starr later wrote a book about the song.
3. 'I Can Sing a Rainbow' was one of my favourite songs. It asks you to do what with your eyes?

Answer: Listen

This song is a good way to learn about colours. It also encourages you to look at the world around you: 'Listen with your eyes and sing everything you see'.
4. I grew up in Australia, and we learnt a song about pyjama-wearing fruit. What type of fruit were they?

Answer: Bananas

'Bananas in Pyjamas' was from a children's show called 'Play School'. The characters from the song were later used in a cartoon show.
5. 'The Wheels on the Bus' is a favourite song of my son. What do the wipers on the bus say?

Answer: Swish, swish, swish

This song is very popular on bus trips! There are many verses describing the different parts of the bus and what they do or say.
6. A song that I learnt for Easter was called 'Hot Cross Buns'. How much for these buns?

Answer: One a penny

Pennies and pounds are still used in England today. Shillings and sixpence are no longer used. I like my hot cross buns toasted and buttered.
7. What do the bells of St Clement's say in the song of the same name?

Answer: Oranges and lemons

The churches mentioned in the song are all churches in central London. The song can also be played as a playground game.
8. There are a number of songs that are about the English city of London. In one of them London Bridge is doing what?

Answer: Falling down

The original London Bridge is now in Arizona, America. Some people confuse Tower Bridge (near the Tower of London) with London Bridge. Tower Bridge opens in the middle to let boats travel up and down the Thames.
9. 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat' is a favourite of my daughter. How is the boat rowed down the stream?

Answer: Gently

New verses that I have heard of this song include animals. For example, instead of rowing down the stream, one version has 'If you see a crocodile don't forget to scream!'
10. My final song features a bear. Why did he go over the mountain?

Answer: To see what he could see

The song explains that all the bear could see was the other side of the mountain. I don't know if he climbed back or continued on his way.
