Vermont is in New England in the northeastern United States. Its capital is Montpelier and it was fourteenth in order of statehood. Vermont is the home of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, Senator Bernie Sanders and the Killington Ski Area. On the sitcom "Newhart", it was the location of the Stafford Inn owned by Dick and Joanna Loudon.

New York is one of the Mid-Atlantic states, with its capital upstate in Albany. New York was one of the original thirteen colonies and eleventh in order of statehood. The prestigious Cornell University is located in Ithaca. Andrew Cuomo became governor of the state in 2010. "Seinfeld", "the show about nothing", was set in Manhattan, one of New York City's five boroughs.

Answer: Arizona

Arizona, also located in the southwestern United States, has Phoenix as its capital. It was the 48th territory to become a state. Arizona is known for its magnificent, expansive Grand Canyon with its beautiful bands of layered red rock. Located nearby is another impressive site, i.e., the Painted Desert, near the Petrified Forest National Park.

The 1970's TV show "Alice" was set in Phoenix.

Moving to the Pacific Northwest, we have the state of Oregon, with the Columbia and Snake Rivers, and its capital of Salem (without the witch trials). Oregon was the 33rd to receive statehood. Crater Lake is located in Klamath County in south-central Oregon and is known for the clarity of its deep blue waters. Famous long-distance runner, Steve Prefontaine, was from Oregon.

The TV show "Stumptown", based on graphic novels, was set in Portland, Oregon.

Maryland is yet another Mid-Atlantic state, with Annapolis as its capital. Another of the original thirteen colonies, it became the seventh state of the new nation. Surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, it also houses Fort McHenry which was the inspiration for our national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner". The popular crime show, "The Wire", was set in Baltimore.

The state of Washington, not to be confused with the District of Columbia, is located in the Pacific Northwest, with Olympia as the capital. It was the 42nd territory to become a state. It features the home of huge corporations like Starbucks and Microsoft, and the Space Needle. Washington was also home to television's Frasier Crane and Laura Palmer of "Twin Peaks".

Founded by William Penn, Pennsylvania is in the Great Lakes, Northeastern, Appalachian regions of the United States, with Harrisburg as the capital. It became the second state (after Delaware) to ratify the Constitution. Philadelphia is famous for giving us Ben Franklin, cheesesteak and the Liberty Bell.

The Christian group known as the Amish, who reject modern technology, live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The popular TV show "The Office" was set in Scranton.
